So Cadmus took aim with his gun—which he estimated had one bullet left—and fired. The bullet sailed through the air and hit the Reaper’s forehead dead on, causing the Reaper’s arms to drop to the side and the draining feeling in Cadmus’s body to immediately stop.
Panting, Cadmus looked down at the Reaper, waiting a few seconds to make sure that the Reaper was really dead. He didn’t want to turn his back on an enemy who might still be alive.
But as more time passed and the Reaper didn’t move again, Cadmus allowed himself to relax.
He tapped his earcom and said, “Mr. Apollo? I have successfully taken down the target. Send a team of G-Men to come and transport the corpse out of this graveyard. Also send someone to remove the hologram projectors I found; they could potentially be useful in the future.”
“Yes, sir,” came Mr. Apollo’s refined voice. “Right away, sir.”
Cadmus’s earcom clicked off and he lowered his hand. He looked down at the Reaper’s corpse, thankful that the mission had been a success, but also tired and hoping that he would never run into another supervillain like him again.
