“Will we be seeing you on the next picture, Gil?” she asked him.

“Well I don’t know about that. This one’s given me a lot to think about.”

Gil and Mike took an afternoon flight to London Heathrow with the other members of the British sound crew. As they took off from Fiumicino they could see the sprawl of Rome in the distance through the haze. “So long, Rome,” Gil said wistfully. The coast of Lazio dropped away below them as the British Airways Trident climbed and banked to head out over the Tyrrhenian Sea toward the distant coast of France.

“Will you be going back?” Mike asked.

“Well, I never really saw much of Rome proper, and anyway I have to, don’t I? I’ve still got a date with Paolo—at full rates.”

  “What, being unfaithful already?”

Gil placed his hand over Mike’s arm. “No,” was all he said.

  “You still here, Mr. Graham?”

The redundant question brought Gil back to the present and a darkened studio complex in downtown Burbank. He looked up. Silhouetted by the brighter hallway lights outside the control room stood a lithe figure. With a start, Gil looked at his watch.

“My, is that really the time?”

“Yes, sir, it’s well after eleven,” came the polite reply.

Gil peered more closely, and with a tiny thrill of recognition, saw the cute young floor assistant standing in the open doorway.

  “What’s your name, son?”

“Mike, Mr. Graham, Mike Benson.” An American Mike—the name seemd to haunt him. The boy continued to look at Gil, and then hesitantly asked, “Is there anything I can get you?”

“Get me? No. I don’t think so. But if we hurry, we might still make a table at Santorini’s.”

The youngster stepped forward as Gil stood up and the control room’s lights showed up his tight form and eager face.

  “Hungry?” Gil asked.

“Oh, gee, Mr. Graham, I surely am. Been on the go all day.”

“Hmm, I know how that feels.”

The boy called Mike smiled shyly. “It’s real good of you. I had been hoping to catch a word with you one day. Perhaps some pointers as to how I might get on…”

“Sure, why not.” Gil moved to the boy, and placed an arm over his shoulder. He sensed no shrinking away, in fact quite the opposite. He was sure Mike pressed closer against him, sensed the repressed longing. Ah well, he thought, the young guys have to use what they’ve got to get ahead, no doubt that’s all it is. But then again, perhaps not…

“Let’s go eat, and I’ll tell you all about the boys of vice city.”

  About the Author

Born in Switzerland, Oliver Frey a.k.a. Zack, ended up in London and, after attending film school, plunged into gay art and publishing. Innumerable illustrations poured from his pen and brush for British magazines HIM International, Vulcan, Teenage Dreams, the Gay Library series and Mister magazine (which published the late-period Rogue stories). For HIM he created the mold-breaking Rogue comic strip and later The Street, which was part of the inspiration behind cult TV series Queer As Folk. The Internet has spread his reputation to an enormous global fan base through many sites and blogs. Recently, some of his comic-strip work— Bike Boy and Hot for Boys: the Sexy Adventures of Rogue —has been published by Bruno Gmünder, and Bike Boy Rides Again will be available soon. As Zack, he has taken gay erotic comics to new dimensions. He lives with his life-long partner Roger Kean in a medieval town on the edge of Wales.

British-born co-author Roger Kean, who met Oliver at film school in London, has had careers as a movie cameraman, film editor, journalist, magazine and book editor, and has written millions of words about many subjects, including gay fiction. He has already written the next two sequels to Boys of Vice City.
