Murder in Hum Harbour Page 21

by Jayne E. Self

I tugged at my hair. “You want to fire me instead?”

“No, I want you here working beside me.”

  “But…”

“Gailynn, we all made mistakes. What happened to Doc was terrible, and none of us will ever forget the tragedy. But there comes a point where you have to pick up and move on with your life.”

  “But…”

“You have to forgive yourself. I forgive you for whatever it is you think you’ve done wrong. Will you forgive me?”

  “Yes, but…”

“Then it’s over. We solved Doc’s murder. Now let’s put our sleuthing days behind us and concentrate on getting to know each other better.” His smile suggested some very interesting possibilities.

“Besides,” he said, “what’s the chance there’ll ever be another murder in Hum Harbour?”

  What chance indeed?
