Chapter Eleven: You, Me, Her, and us.

I blinked several times and couldn’t seem to get the light out of my eyes. It just kept shining down on me, burning my pupils. I was beginning to think that I was cursed with blindness by the door or something when I noticed the silhouette of tree leaves rustling overhead.

A warm breeze brushed across my skin before I turned my head to see Cas lying at my side. He was still sweating, but his eyes were open, and his breathing was soft.

  “Cas?” I barely whispered.

Cas gave a slight smile before grimacing. That’s when I shot up in a sitting position and checked his substitute bandages.

“Are you okay?” I asked as I examined them. Since they were black, I had to feel for blood, and frowned when I realized that they were damp. “Dammit. We need to get you help.”

“Help,” Cas sighed. “Help would be nice.”

Ms. Jones walked over to us. “Is he alright?”

“He’s awake,” I answered, looking up at her.

“No, he isn’t,” Bradly blurted as he walked over to us.

“What?” Looking back down at Cas, I saw that he had fallen unconscious again. “Dammit.”

Bradly looked from left to right. “Where’s our familiars?”

I looked around as well to see that we were surrounded by trees. So instead of the middle of the desert, Bradly’s familiar dropped us off in the middle of the forest. “Where the hell are we?”

“It looks like we’re on a path of some sort,” Ms. Jones answered. “It may lead us to help.”

“Yeah, help. Let’s get some already,” I said. “But how do we get Cas to help? Carrying him may cause the bleeding to get worse.”

Ms. Jones sighed. “You have a point.”

“Well, I’ll go get help and bring them to us,” Bradly said. “I’ll be alright.”

“No, you can’t go on your own.” I frowned. “We don’t know where we are, what’s in this forest, and who we’ll run into.”

“But then, how do you suppose we help Cas? Teleporting is pointless since we don’t know where we are or anything about this forest. Our best bet is for me to search for help instead.”

  “I said no.”

  “You’re being unreasonable!”

“Guys!” Ms. Jones yelled. “You both go, and I’ll look after Cas, alright? We don’t have time for this.”

I sighed and stared down at Cas. “Okay. That’ll work.”

I could only hope that Cas could manage to hold on for just a little longer.

“I could’ve went on my own, you know,” Bradly grumbled.

I sighed and continued looking ahead. We had been on this path for almost two hours and I was beginning to believe that it would never end. “Shut-up, Bradly.”

  “I’m just saying.”

  “Shut-up, Bradly.”

I needed to keep my guard up in case there were any enemies in these woods. We did just escape the Hunters Dimension and there was always a chance that some of them could’ve either tailed us, or that we were being searched for. We were fugitives after all.

Thinking of how we left, I wondered if our father ever got away. He stood tall and looked as healthy as any man could be, but it’s been years since he’s fought in battle. What if he was rusty? He had to be after all that time, right? What if he were captured again and put to death just like Ohauris tried to do with Ms. Jones? What if ―

“Dad looked wicked cool,” Bradly said. “Did you see his beard?”

“Yeah, I saw it…” My thoughts went back to our father sitting in the cell when Bradly spoke again.

“He probably kicked some major ass back there. Do you think he saw me using my magic?”

I offered a slight smile. “He did.”

Bradly nodded and looked down at the ground. “I wonder if he was proud?”

“He looked proud. At least I think he did.”

Bradly beamed. As annoying as he was, I loved seeing him happy. “Good. I’m glad. Now if only our mom could see us.” He was silent for a moment. “Where do you think she is?”

I licked my lips, the question burning a hole into my brain. It’s been a question that’s been on my mind for a while now. “I don’t know, but if she’s alive, we’ll find her. We’re going to get our family back together.”

Bradly nodded. “That would be nice.”

We both walked silently down the dirt path when we heard a loud cracking sound, then bushes rustling.

“Ouch! Watch where you’re going!” A girl yelled.

There was another cracking noise with more rustling of bushes and trees. “Sorry!”

Bradly frowned and slowed to a stop. “Hey, was that―”

“Learn how to freaking steer!” the first girl yelled.

“I’m trying! This is a high-level skill!” the second girl yelled back.

Their voices were getting closer by the second.

My eyebrows furrowed. “It sounds like…”

The sound of a younger girl’s laugh sounded. “How am I better at this than you?”

“If they’re here…then where the hell are we?” I asked, stepping back. “Are we in a Coven Dimension?”

The rustling of the trees grew louder before Raven came spiraling out of the them on a broomstick with a pink haired girl on the back of it. The two of them screamed as they spiraled right into the ground a few feet away from us.

Raven rolled towards us over the dirt and stopped directly at my feet on her back. “Oh, hell,” she groaned as she rubbed her eyes. When she moved her hand, her silver eyes landed on my browns, and the two of us literally just blinked at each other.

I couldn’t believe that I was seeing her, and she clearly couldn’t believe that she was seeing me.

A slow frown pulled on Raven’s face. “You.”

  My eyebrows furrowed. “You?”

  Bradly’s lips parted. “Oh, crap.”
