Campaign Widows Page 30

by Aimee Agresti

To Eddie Gamarra for helping this book to expand its reach.

To Margo Lipschultz for discovering this book!

To Richard Ford for your wisdom and inspiring words.

To the best squad a girl could have—you all know who you are!—with an extra shout-out to: Rachel Paula Abrahamson, Jami Bjellos, Jenny Laws, Ryan Lynch, Poornima Ravishankar, Anna Siri, Jennie Teitelbaum and Kate Ackley Zeller.

To my amazing family and cheering section: fabulous parents Bill and Risa, awesome sis (and beloved first reader!) Karen. And supersupportive in-laws Steve, Ilene, Jill, Lauren, David and Gabrielle.

To Brian—of course!—for the love and endless encouragement (and millions of political chats), and for watching our wild, adorable boys while I disappeared into my office to write. And to sweet Sawyer and Hardy for sneaking your beautiful artwork and Lego sculptures onto my desk when I wasn’t looking.

And finally, thank you, dear reader, for devoting your time to these Widows. I so hope you’ve enjoyed reading their adventures as much as I’ve enjoyed writing them!

In what ways do the Widows end up influencing the election, despite being on the periphery of the campaigns?

Do you think Rocky Haze will be a good leader, and if so, why? Would you have voted for her?

Discuss the current of girl power running through the story. How are many of the women underestimated at different times in the novel? How does each overcome obstacles and rise above the naysayers?

What would each Widow have to say about the idea of “having it all,” the notion of successfully balancing personal and professional lives? How does this theme relate to your own life?

How is the theme of independence woven throughout the novel? What type of message does the story send about believing in yourself and taking chances?

Which Widow did you most relate to? Which Widow would you most want to be friends with and why?
