My laughter was cut short by a swift kick from inside. "Ow. I think you're in trouble because he's probably going to be just like his father—charming, devilishly handsome, and frustratingly impossible."
"It will be nice to have an ally around the house. Someone to help me melt those last few pragmatic recesses of your heart. You better watch out, Katherine, with two of us working our magic on you, you might just start believing in fairy tales." He smoothed his hand over a lump caused by Little Lachlan's restless feet. The wonder in his eyes as he watched the life he helped create was more magical than anything I ever thought possible.
Smoothing my fingers over his clean-shaven cheek, I urged him to face me. "Lachlan, I already do."
He kissed me, and with his lips brushing against mine, he breathed, "I thought the princess was supposed to marry the prince, not the wizard."
"Maybe that's the point she was missing all along. It wasn't until the wizard came along and cast his spell that she understood it wasn't a choice or an 'either-or.' She could marry both the prince and the wizard if she allowed herself the freedom to live more than one story."
Moisture gathered at the corners of his eyes. The lip quiver threatening to reveal his failure to maintain composure quickly transformed into a wicked grin. "You really married the wizard because you heard the fantastic tales of his magic wand, right?"
"See what I mean about impossible? What am I going to do with two of you?"
He smiled. "Live happily ever after."
