Anarchist Season 2 book 2 Page 7

by Jordan Silver

His eyes flew to Brandon and Clay who once worked for him. Sheriff or no I knew he had something to do with hiding up the murder of my family, fuck him. “Now go.” I shot over his head to get him moving.

“Dana Sue get inside.” I didn’t take my eyes off the patrol cars as they stirred up the dust in their haste to disappear.

“Lawton where are you going? What are you going to do?”

“Come here baby.” I held her close and whispered reassurances in her ear until she calmed down. Fuck I’d forgotten she was here. I always try not to let her see this side of me.

“Chaz take the women inside.” I waited until they were gone before turning to the four men that had my back. “Something you want to tell me?” I looked at Kyle and the fucker looked like he wanted to be anywhere but here.

“Law it was my fault not them.” Like that shit was gonna make a difference.

“Didn’t I tell you to leave this alone?”

“It was the one thing I could do for you Law. You’ve been so busy protecting everyone else, making sure we were okay, and then these guys came here and we all knew why they were here. You weren’t doing anything…”

“Did it ever occur to you that I wasn’t doing anything because I was waiting for them to make the first move? I was waiting for them to lead me to Junior. If he’s the one that sent them after me, it means that they might get in touch with him at some point. I had eyes on them. Now they’re gone and I’m no closer to knowing where that fuck is.”

I turned to Brand and Clay then. The eyes that I’d had on those men. “I guess my eyes looked away while you and I’m guessing our cousin did the deed?”

“Listen Law, we didn’t know what move these guys were gonna make. We were on them for days and no sign of Junior. We weren’t sure that they wouldn’t make a move…”

“That’s why you were watching them you Clay you fuck.”

“Yeah but we couldn’t watch them all the time and we had no way of knowing how they were gonna come at you.”

“Brandon, best we leave this alone for now. I’ll deal with you lot later I have to go see to my wife.” I went in search of my wife and found her with the other women, all of whom were trying to figure out what was going on.

I was able to divert her attention for the time being and left the others to deal with their women.

Later that night I grilled my brother and cousin to make sure they hadn’t left anything of themselves behind at the scene. Once I was sure that they were in the clear I put it away. I wasn’t worried about the sheriff. I had enough on him to keep his ass quiet. I needed this shit.

I needed even less the call I got from Kat about her asshole husband. When she said he was headed for the desert I knew we had a big fucking problem on our hands. The plan was to wait until we had more info, but shit was moving slow because the men we were after were well insulated. I got off the phone with her and made another one.

“Creed we gotta go get Colt’s ass.”

“What is it this time?” He sighed long and hard.

“Who the fuck knows, he’s headed to the desert so some fuck must’ve happened. Knowing him he doesn’t have a plan in place he’s just going with whatever so we’d better be there to do clean up.”

  “I’ll head out now.”

I knew he would, just as I knew we were going to be doing more than cleanup. Fucking Lyon.
