  “OK,” Reggie said.

  “And Reggie?”

  “Yes?”

  “Have the Insectoids transferred those credits to my dark accounts?”

  “Yes they have. Every last credit.”

  “Have them ready,” Drexler said. “We will need them.”

  “For what?” Reggie asked.

  “To hire ships. We are going to war.”

  “I thought you wanted to retire.”

  “I do, but where would I retire with all these Lizards around? Besides, this war looks like a growth industry. It’s prime for investment.”

  Drexler retrieved his worn display scrolls and spread them out across his desk. He worked the numbers for a while until a broad smile spread across his face. He leaned back in his favorite chair, put up his feet and returned his eyes to space. Under his boot heel, figures on the business ledger pulsed bright green.
