Now both of them were battered, bruised and barely able to fight. They were both exhausted but they continued on, neither one wanting to give up.
Sam threw both of his chakrams at Matthew as one final attempt to hit the crack in his armour. Matthew created two portals and let the chakrams fly through them. He dispersed them and then created two more, this time facing Sam as he ran towards Matthew, and the chakrams came out flying at Sam. Sam jumped over the spinning blades, brought his tail over his head and slammed it down on Matthew's blades, which he'd used to block the attack. Sam managed to break through the blades and force Matthew onto the ground. The chakrams came back to Sam, who fell on top of Matthew to hold him down and held one up to Matthew's throat.
"I win?" Sam asked.
"I concede. You win," Matthew said as Sam got off of him.
Applause burst from the other Marines that were watching. They all walked over to the two of them as Sam helped Matthew up.
"Well done, boys. A fine battle indeed," Malcolm said. "Congratulations to you, Sam. In honour of your victory I hereby bestow upon you the rank of Leader of S1."
Jareth, Lachlan, Steven, Emily, Hayden and Matthew all went down on one knee and bowed to Sam.
"Sam, you are now our leader. We will all fight alongside you and die for you. We are marines. We fight for the ones we love. We fight for the ones we've lost. We are marines. Hoorah!" they all said in unison.
"And I am appointing the role of Second in Command to Matthew. Third in Command will be Lachlan," Sam said as all of the marines ... no, all of his Marines stood in front of him. Jareth had a sour look on his face but Sam would deal with that later.
"Hoorah!" they all said, raising their arms into the air.
"Are they ready yet?" Dialgus asked as he and Alpha watched from a nearby hill.
"Not by a long shot," Alpha replied.
"Three of the five are on his team and Theta is with you. Whose side will the fifth be on?"
"I am unsure. He could decide to be with his brother, or he could choose to side with his friends. Either way he and the other four will help us defeat Ragnarok, one way or another."
"And what if they don't?"
"Then we will have to sleep for another thousand years, and then awaken to whatever world Ragnarok has created. We must stop him soon, or else Draconis will rise once more."
