Alpha Blood Box Set (BBW Werewolf / Shifter Romance) Page 50

Luke and I retired for what remained of the night. We lay on a thin blanket over the hard ground and snuggled. It felt so good to snuggle without worrying about imminent death. I sighed and buried my face into his chest. “So warm,” I murmured.

  “Yes,” was his bland reply.

I pulled away and gazed into his face. He lay on his side towards me and his eyes were open. His mouth was pursed and tense. “What’s wrong?” I whispered.

“Nothing,” he replied. He turned his back to me.

I frowned, grabbed his sleeve and gave a hard tug that pulled me onto his back. I crawled on top of him and glared down into his strained face. “What’s wrong?” I growled.

  Luke sighed. “Lance,” he replied.

My face softened. “You can’t go blaming yourself for his death. He got into that truck a long time ago.” Luke turned his head away from me, but I grasped my chin and forced him to look into my face. “You are not responsible for his death. Heck, Wilson and Ian are more responsible for his death than you are. They brought the fuel, but you tried to save him.”

  “Perhaps,” he answered.

I crossed my arms over my chest and pushed down on his stomach. He let out a wheeze and clutched my hips. “No perhaps,” I growled. “Lance could have done anything else with his life, but he chose to be an attempted dictator rather than a dentist. That was his choice, and he’s the one who has to-well, had to live with the consequences.”

A ghost of a smile slipped onto Luke’s lips. “Perhaps.” I opened my mouth, but he pressed his hand against my lips. “And perhaps you’re right. He did choose his own path and we chose ours, but though I may be able to forgive myself one day for not being able to save him what will Zeke say?” he mused.

I snorted. “He’ll probably say you did a damn good job for the odds and wander away to his shack.”

Now I got a real, honest smile from him. “I will not doubt that at all.”

“Good.” I rolled off him and snuggled against his side. “Now less talk, more dreaming.”

He chuckled, and the vibrations trembled through me. “You have never had a better idea.”

The noises of the camp couldn’t keep me awake, and didn’t wake me up. Some time in mid morning I rolled over and winced when a beam of sunlight shot into my eyes. My eyelids creaked open and viewed the half-open flap of our tent. Day had dawned and the camp was alive with the wounded, captive, and healthy. They hurried to and fro on errands, and many were pulling down the tents and preparing to leave. I turned around to speak to Luke, but he was gone.

I crawled from the tent looking like a waif and looked around. At the far end of the camp, near the main road and a new truck, stood my familiar group of friends along with my mate. I shuffled over to the group and Burnbaum smiled when he saw me.

He stepped over and wrapped me in one of his painful hugs. “Good morning! Good morning! What a beautiful day, yes?” he asked me.

  “Very,” I croaked.

“We were just making plans for your safe return,” Stacy spoke up.

I blinked at the group, who smiled back. “Safe return where?”

  “Home,” Luke revealed.

My mouth dropped open and I whipped my head to Luke. “What about the trouble with Stevens and Mullen?”

“They will be better solved without your being in jail,” Stacy explained.

“And that means you have to lie low,” Emily chimed in.

Adam put a hand on my shoulder and honest-to-god smiled at me. “Go home. You deserve as much.”

“But don’t go causing any more messes without us,” Rick spoke up. Steve rolled his eyes.

Stevens stepped up to us. He had puffy pouches beneath his eyes and was pale, but otherwise unhurt from his most recent time as a slave. Stevens clasped my hands and smiled at us both. “Thank you for saving Stacy and me, and for that and everything you have done we will handle all that needs to be corrected,” he promised.

Emily stepped to the side and nodded to the beautiful truck. Alistair sat at the wheel. “Now get on your way before we change our minds,” she ordered us.

My eyes brimmed over with tears and I wrapped my arms around first Stevens, and then everyone else in the crowd numbering twelve. I stepped back and smiled at all of them with Luke by my side. “Thank you all so much, and you all better visit us when you get this mess taken care of,” I choked out.

“I plan on it,” Emily piped up. Ian rolled his eyes, but wrapped his arm around his mate’s shoulders.

“I must see to my inn, but I will visit after that,” Burnbaum assured us.

“And I to Sanctuary, but I, too, look forward to some peace in Wildlands,” Adam agreed.

“Dad and I will take care of the politics, and then we promise a long visit,” Stacy spoke up.

Rick raised an eyebrow and craned his neck towards us. “Is it good hunting there?”

  “I hope not. . .” Steve mumbled.

Stewart bowed his head to us. “I will visit soon, and bring Abby and Martha with me,” he promised.

“I will bring my children as soon as we are settled again on the farm,” Baker agreed.

“We will first hunt for the feroce and see if Leonor doesn’t kill me,” Callean spoke on behalf of himself and Tracker.

Luke stepped behind me and grasped my shoulders. “We had better start off. We have a long trip ahead of us,” he advised me.

We walked through our dear friends and slid into the cab of the truck. Luke had the window seat, but I leaned over him and waved goodbye as Alistair started the engine. We pulled away from the camp and bumped our way through the swamp woods towards Wildlands.

  27

I never thought I could be so relieved to see home again, and several times I never thought I’d see it again period. After an eight-hour journey we rounded the final corner of the woodland road and the way opened up to reveal the two-floor brick home. Out front stood Zeke, and his grizzled old face actually had a rough smile on it. Alistair parked the car in front of him and we stepped out. Luke strode up to Zeke and they shook hands.

Zeke looked him over and gave a nod. “I hear ya did pretty well out there.”

There wasn’t a smile on Luke’s face. “Not as well as I hoped,” he replied.

The smile slipped from Zeke’s lips and he sighed. “Ya can’t save someone who doesn’t want to be saved.”

I moved to stand beside Luke and gave a good jab into his side. Luke winced and turned to me. “What was that for?” he asked me.

“For forgetting about all the people who wanted to be saved that we did save. Everyone would’ve been a lot worse off if we would’ve let Lance do what he wanted.”

Luke turned away and pursed his lips. “I suppose. . .”

I gave him another jab in the ribs, and Zeke chuckled. “It seems you’ve gotten a bit stronger since ya left,” he commented.

Luke rubbed his side, but there was a hint of a smile on his lips. “It seems she has,” he agreed.

I crossed my arms and glared at Luke. “I’m strong enough to whip your butt if you don’t stop moping and start seeing things from the winner’s point of view. Lance might have been your brother, but he was also a crazy werewolf bent on world domination. The family reunions would’ve been a little tense with him spouting off about ruling the world.”

That finally elicited a smile from my gloomy mate. “Yes, he never would have let us forget that he was master of all.”

I looped my arm through one of his and pulled him toward the front door. “And speaking of forgetting, it’s been so long since I had a bath that I can’t remember how good it feels.”

Luke’s hesitant smile slipped into a lecherous grin. “Did you need any help?”

I grinned back. “You don’t think I’m going to ask Alistair to scrub my back, do you?”

I pulled his willing person inside and we climbed the stairs. At the second floor Luke grabbed my shoulders and pinned me to the wall beside the curl
ing staircase. He caught my lips in a hungry, passionate kiss that warmed the area between my thighs. He released me and I gasped for breath. “Wanting something?” I teased.

“No, I already have you,” he returned.

I ducked down, slipped from his grasp and stepped a few feet down the hall toward our bedroom. I clasped my hands behind my back and slowly backed up toward the door. “Now you don’t,” I told him.

Luke’s lips curled back and his eyes took on a distinctly yellow tint to them. A low growl rumbled from his throat and I noticed his clothes stretched and his teeth lengthened. “You want to play hard to get?” he growled.

I stepped back and held my hands out in front of me. “Easy there, boy. Calm down.”

Calm was not on his agenda. Luke leapt forward and I barely avoided his clingy long claws. I yelped, turned around and raced for the bedroom with Luke in close pursuit. We swept into the bedroom, and Luke on my heels meant I couldn’t close the door behind me. Hell, I barely got the knob turned and the door open before he made another dive at me. My survival training through all these months meant I ducked and rolled into the room. Luke flew over me and landed on all fours between me and the bed. His sharp claws dug into the wood and stopped him from skidding.

I stood and nervously smiled at my feral mate. “Easy, Luke, there’s no need to get rough. Yet.”

He begged to differ. Luke paced in a circle around me and I didn’t realize he had cut off my escape route through the door until he was halfway to doing it. It wasn’t that I didn’t want some nice, wolfy sex, it was just that my instinct was telling me it was running time and my mate be damned. I dove for the entrance, but he jumped forward and rammed his head into the door. The door slammed shut and he stood triumphant in front of me.

Luke was now more wolf than man. His shirt tore open to reveal fur sprouting from his body and his pants burst at the side seams. He stepped out of his torn shoes and crawled on all fours toward me. Now that I had no way of escape the beast inside of me gave up all hope of avoiding my rowdy mate. My breath quickened and I slowly backed up until the back of my knees hit the foot of the bed. I collapsed atop the covers and scrambled back.

Luke still followed with his glowing eyes. Moonlight shone through the tall windows and cast the room in a warm, soft glow. Luke climbed onto the bed and his ripped muscles were covered in fur. He panted and crawled towards me. I hit the headboard and sweat broke out over my body. Delicious, wet heat pooled between my legs and when I shifted atop the silk sheets my jeans rubbed against my sensitive nub. The friction made me groan.

Luke reached me and nuzzled his long face into my neck. The smooth skin of his palms slid down my sides and stopped at my hips. One of his clawed hands unbuttoned my jeans and slipped into my underwear. He was gentle, teasingly gentle. His sharp claws could have cut me, but I only felt the stroke of his fingers against my nub. He slid his fingers back and forth, and my hips followed his rhythm. I wrapped my arms around him as he covered my body with his, enveloping me in his hot, soft warmth.

His soft strokes changed me. My breasts swelled and strained against my shirt. The seams of my jeans broke apart as my hips widened and thickened. My body was aflame with tensing, stretching muscles. I squirmed beneath my mate, and the feel of our two bodies against each other drove my beast to the forefront. Fur sprouted from my sweat-soaked flesh and my clothes tore off me. My hands stretched into long claws and my feet broke from my shoes and socks.

Luke pulled me down so I lay on the bed, and he straddled one side of me. I whimpered when his hand pulled away from my heated core. He chuckled and the sound vibrated against the flesh of my neck. “Do you want this?” he growled. I jumped when he stroked my nub with his finger.

I ached for his touch, and my soft, sultry voice told him that. “Y-yes,” I replied.

He pressed hard against me and I moaned. “Louder,” he whispered. His breaths came out in harsh gasps and his body was tense above me. I raised a leg and ran it down his thigh. My full breasts pushed against his chest and I rubbed my pert tips against his fur and hard muscle. He shuddered and ground his teeth. “You’re making this very hard for me.”

I grinned and rubbed our noses together in an Eskimo kiss. “Good.”

He growled and latched his lips onto mine as he rolled me onto my back. His body pinned mine to the bed and his member teased my entrance. I tore my mouth from his and whimpered. He responded by thrusting himself deep into my warm, wet, waiting embrance. Our rhythm started off slow. We explored each other with our thrusts and our hands. His touch drove me to near madness. I pressed my hips hard against his and groaned as he pushed deeper into my hot core.

He grunted and thrust harder. Our pace quickened. My body was covered in sweat and fur. Every inch ached for the release promised by each penetration. I groaned, he grunted, and together our noises grew louder. We were enveloped in our lust and need to satiate the beast within us. I grasped his back and felt my face expand. Rows of sharp teeth grew from my mouth and my tightening muscles tensed to their limits.

The tension grew stronger. I clutched onto my mate as the vibrations of pleasure reverberated through my body. My flesh slid against his and tried to join us as one. Our heavy breathing and grunts filled the room. Each pant brought me closer to fulfillment. I pushed and pressed, aching for sweet release. My stomach muscles tightened. I felt soft waves of bliss wash over me. My mate pressed harder against me. Faster now. I couldn’t take the torture. My lust consumed me. The heavenly pleasure swept over me like a tidal wave. I leaned my head back and howled. My mate thrust again and again until finally he, too, howled his delight and spilled himself into me.

Then he collapsed atop me, and I was too exhausted to care. Our adventure was over and I was looking forward to a long life of fun, relaxation, and maybe, when I was tired of that, starting a family. I fell asleep in the warm, comforting arms of my mate, and so did my Luke-blanket.
