Epilogue
Three years later
Looking out over the cattle Colt had added over the last year, Carrie felt the peace that the ranch offered. That lasted a few seconds until she saw her children messing around yet again. “Colton Smitty Remington, you let go of your sister’s hair right this second!” Carrie had agreed to somewhat name their first son after his father. They still called him Colt, but at least he wasn’t named after a horse—or a gun.
They had two children at the moment. Colton was three, Maddie was two, and Carrie had just found out she was pregnant again. She couldn’t be happier. Her parents were happy having grandchildren, but were, of course, still disappointed in her for not utilizing her education. She didn’t even bother telling them that she had begun taking consulting jobs for an interior design company in town. She only took small jobs, as her focus was her family, but for now, it was a perfect mix for her.
Colt was the happiest man alive. He told that to anyone who would listen and constantly annoyed people with pictures of his growing family. Carrie thought was very charming.
Every once in a while, when Colt and Carrie were snuggling on the porch, she could swear that she could smell the scent of her Uncle Smitty’s favorite cigar.
