Dark Moon Falls: Jaxson Page 15

  Epilogue

  Mated

  One year later…

I wilt into Jaxson’s couch, my silk robe sticking to the drops of water I missed with the towel. It’s been a long day of unpacking my things into his house.

The first couple months into me and Jaxson ‘talking’, we did just that…well, and other stuff. He’d come out to Portland to visit a couple weekends in a row, then I’d visit Dark Moon Falls. Our relationship blossomed. Like our chemistry, the progression of it was like a wildfire—swift and consuming—and within six months, we were saying I love you. Within eight, we started talking about moving in together.

By the twelfth, we made it happen.

And for the first time in, well…ever, I’m in a safe, happy relationship I have no intention of sabotaging or running away from.

  Thanks to my therapist.

And to Jaxson for being the man he is.

I used to not believe the universe brought people together. I used to not believe in soul mates, either. Any of it. But I do now. What were the chances Jaxson and I were at the same bar on the same night, for very different reasons, but with the same past wounds? The same interests? Same desires? Everything fit together too perfectly to be a mistake.

We fit together too perfectly for it to be a mistake.

  It was meant to be.

  We were intended.

Not that we made it easy on ourselves to make it happen. Thank God for good friends and sisters to help us get over ourselves.

Jaxson settles on the couch beside me, tenderly runs a hand over my knee. A fire hisses and crackles in the fireplace. “Where’re you at?”—the thing he asks when my eyes go distant, my thoughts running wild. It brings me back to him.

“Right here,” I say, and I absently trace along the scar at the bend of my neck—the place he bit me the night he officially asked me to move in, key and all. We made a furious kind of love in his Jeep, and then I begged him to do it. To mate us for life. And since he’d already gotten Elias’ blessing, he did it.

I couldn’t imagine life without him.

Now that I’ve been bitten, we’ll age at the same pace. Live long, happy lives…way past any mortal human could dream.

He leans in and kisses me there. Parts my robe.

  I moan my assent.

Would we ever get enough of each other?

  Probably not.

As if answering my question, he nips at my ear while he works his way between my thighs. The length of his shaft presses along my sex, feeling my wetness. “Christ,” he growls, and then pushes in.

I gasp at the sudden stretching.

Dig my nails into his back.

No…we’ll never get enough of this.
