“Sorry. It might get to be a habit.”
“How did it go?”
“I got the two weeks, same as you.”
He swung out of the chair and put his weight gingerly on the injured leg. It didn’t feel so bad.
“Sam! You’re not supposed to do that.”
He smiled, for the first time in days, it seemed, as he admired the soft and inviting forms her body took in its long descent from neck to ankle. Her perfume mixed the air with a light, summery scent.
“There’s lots I’m not supposed to do yet,” he said, and guided her away from the table, an arm about her waist. He looked down at her eager eyes and added: “But now that you’re here, let’s do them all.”
