‘What happened to the sweet, shy and retiring Anais I used to know and love?’ he said in a smooth tone that should have warned her she was jerking his chain.

She rose on her hands and knees.

Wearing a scrap of ivory silk that purported to be baby doll pyjamas with matching tiny panties, he got a stunning view of her breasts as they swayed and the nipples beaded as she leaned forward.

Anais went nose to nose with him and studied his mouth before her eyes met his.

Her skin was soft and smooth and flawless. Her high cheekbones were flushed and those full lips were moist. The scent of her shampoo, warm clean woman and her arousal made his mouth water and his fangs drop from his gums.

The fact she was stunningly unafraid of his Vampyre aroused him even further.

Although her eyes went like saucers as she studied his screaming shaft.

His cock went thick and long and rock hard.

Those dark eyes rose to his as she wound slim arms around his neck and pressed her soft body from shoulder to hip against his.

‘Well, hello, big boy. I wondered when you were coming out to play,’ she said, sounding like Mata fucking Hari.

She nailed her fate when her silk clad pelvis rubbed insolently against his cock once, twice and a third time.

The fact she truly believed she was in the driving seat in their relationship, that she pulled his strings, led him by the fucking dick, insulted his Vampyre’s bone deep sense of machismo.

Marcus tried to reason with him, but it was half hearted since he had a certain amount of sympathy. He hadn’t been the same since he’d met her. The time had come to take back control from his mate.

Through slitted eyes he watched her kneel and bring her hands through her hair, stretch her arms above her head as she wiggled her hips and those big dark eyes taunted him, dared him to take her.

His heightened sense of awareness of her knew her Vampyre was sitting back quite content to enjoy the show.

Anais was on her back and had no idea how it had happened.

The crush of his mouth on hers, the way his tongue invaded, feasted, took without care or pity shook her to the core.

Not by the bruising force, but by the emotion that had exploded from him without any warning.

A belated sense of self-preservation kicked in.

  Anais surrendered.

As soon as she did, he drew back.

The way he was trembling, like a stallion covering a mare, told her he was fighting a losing battle for control.

All the while her heart was hammering in her throat as she tried to catch a single breath.

Agitated, her Vampyre warned her to take care.

He rose and stood next to the bed, a magnificent specimen of masculine beauty, and her throat went bone dry.

  ‘Stand up.’

She did, knowing that while his voice was low, his mood was volatile and unpredictable.

Excitement and fear skittered up her spine.

The antipathy pulsing off him in waves seemed to grow as she stood utterly still, meeting his narrow eyed stare with one of her own.

Her chin lifted fractionally and that huge body tensed.

  ‘Marcus...’

  ‘Do not speak,’ he roared.

She could scent his arousal as he slowly stalked around her until he pressed up against her back. His cock jerking against the base of her spine had her lean back.

His strong hand found her throat and intuition told her he needed something from her. Under the strong fingers pressing against the flesh of her neck, her pulse began to thud under his thumb.

This time she didn’t give in but her gut twisted.

The sound from her throat as he ripped her clothes from her body was not a moan but a whimper.

  He lifted her.

Fast and furious he had her face down bent over the edge of the bed.

And his control snapped and just like that, hers snapped too as her Vampyre rose to meet him in the physical manifestation of love’s brutality.

The flat of his hand between her shoulder blades held her fast as he kicked her legs wide apart. Her womb clutched again and again as arousal wept.

He spanked her so thoroughly her ass burned and she sobbed, burying her scorching face into the duvet.

Then she was flipped onto her back.

He gripped her hips pulling her toward him as he settled her legs over his shoulders.

Eyes the colour of flaming claret burned into hers and she saw dark needs filled with absolute desperation.

Showing no mercy he drove his cock into her up to the hilt.

And pounded into her again and again.

  It was too much.

He overstretched her, but it wasn’t pain that had her panicking as her hands fisted the duvet to desperately find an anchor.

She was losing herself as his fingers expertly stroked her clitoris and her heart went wild. He commanded her body, her very soul.

Their breaths were shallow gasps as their skin went damp and slick.

Hot, the friction was too hot as the scent of sex emptied her mind until all Anais could do was feel as he pistoned into her harder, faster, cursing her even as he told her over and over again he loved her.

Their eyes met once before she flew so fast over the edge her world went dark and her whole body bowed too tight.

Her scream of completion ended on a long wail and she was aware of his big body trembling, convulsing before he collapsed on top of her.

The realisation hit Anais that it was the first time they’d made love without him taking her vein.

And Marcus was still hard inside her, shuddering into her neck as his big hands explored every single inch of her body. He was muttering words she couldn’t understand. Fluid mingled with perspiration on her skin and alerted her that something was very wrong.

He was shaking now, taking deep gasping breaths.

  ‘Marcus.’

She pushed. She shoved. Until finally she managed to wriggle free as he slid from her body.

Kneeling over him, her fingers brushed his black hair, soft as silk, from his forehead.

  ‘What is it?’

He raised his head and dark eyes, filled with tears of emotions he could no longer contain met hers.

‘Don’t you ever fucking do that to me again.’

Bewildered and devastated by his obvious distress, Anais simply held out her arms.

With his head buried in her lap, he wrapped his arms around her waist and clung to her.

‘What did I do?’ she whispered, absolutely distraught.

He took another shuddering breath before he rose to sit on the edge of the bed.

Pressing his fingertips hard into his eyelids, his voice was hoarse,

‘Christ, Jesus, God, I thought I’d lost you. I thought you were dead.’ He gave another violent shudder that made her frown. ‘All I heard in my mind was your scream. All I felt in my heart was your utter terror. And then nothing but darkness. Until I saw you with my own eyes, my heart, my soul, believed you were gone.’

  The light bulb switched on.

‘You mean when I was thrown off the balcony?’

Big hands held her by the shoulders and shook her, hard.

Dark eyes filled with a tormented fury lasered into hers.

‘I mean it. Don’t you ever fucking do that to me again.’

Then he pulled her to him and hugged her so hard she was afraid her ribs might break.

Like a mother stroking, soothing a child, she rubbed the flat of her hands over the warm skin of his back and felt his muscles clench before he gave a heartfelt sigh and relaxed into her.

‘I love you so much, my wee darlin. I dinnae know what I’d do without you.’

The fact that he’d been so terribly scared and feared for her made Anais realise that she held his heart in her hands and she hadn’t been careful or respectful enough of the depth of his love for her.

  Shame slapped her hard.

  She
d been teasing him, using his love, his physical attraction for her against him.

And that wasn’t right and it wasn’t fair.

‘I’m sorry I hurt you,’ she whispered and pressed a soft kiss on the smooth skin of his hard shoulder.

Under that tough exterior lived a heart that was as vulnerable as any mortal man’s.

Anais vowed from now on to take better care of it.

  Marcus lifted his head.

His dark eyes in the calm after the storm were filled with such pure love that her breath hitched.

‘I love you, my Vampyre. If I must obey to make you happy then I’ll promise to do my best.’

His wonderful mouth twitched. ‘Compromising, Anais?’

She gave into temptation and pressed her lips in a feather light kiss against his.

‘It’s the key to all things. Particularly to a successful partnership.’

Those eyes went black as anxiety entered them and his smooth brow creased.

  ‘Trouble lies ahead.’

Anais knew it and for a moment a rock of solid ice weighed heavy in her belly.

Her eyes held his as a determination to endure, to survive to live and love this wonderful man melted the ice and warmed her heart.

‘We have each other and we make a pretty good team. We have the other partners of Gillespie, Pattullo & Hindmarch. Ezekiel might be hard work, but we have a common goal. We have hope and we have faith.’

‘Anais Gillespie,’ he drawled. ‘It has a nice ring to it.’

  ‘Talking of rings.’

He laughed at her raised brow as he pulled her into his arms and kissed her until her head spun.

  Dark eyes twinkled into hers.

  ‘A diamond. You’ll suit diamonds.’

  'Dirty Little Secrets'

  by CC MacKenzie

Born in poverty, Charlotte Gillespie was not afraid of hard work or fighting for what she believed in. Now she had it all - A successful medical career. A gorgeous man who loved and adored her. A beautiful home, jewels and a life most women would envy. And yet, something was missing…

In a desperate attempt to spice up their pedestrian sex life, Charlotte joins a women’s networking group, Dirty Little Secrets, run by the mysteriously exotic Eleanor Pattullo and discovers a world of deep, dark, delights…

Clever, compelling and unconventional – Corporate lawyer James Gillespie was no one’s idea of a Vampyre. Life was good. He had a woman he adored. A stellar career that fed his ferocious ambition.

But James had a problem. He couldn’t find it within himself to take his wife’s vein and bring her fully into his world…

When he discovers Charlotte’s secret life James unleashes the beast within. But can Charlotte ever forgive him? When the master of magic the Vampyre, Ezekiel, arrives badly wounded needing Charlotte’s help, James must battle not only to save his marriage, but to save their souls…

  Excerpt:

They’d met when James had been brought into the ER with a suspected concussion after an over competitive game of football with his brothers. As a senior nurse practitioner, Charlotte had seen plenty of memorable sights. But to see all five of the raven haired Gillespie brothers, James, Marcus, Adam, Justin and Daniel, each one a six foot six inch walking ad for GQ, meant every woman with a pulse had descended on her department just to rubber neck.

At five foot six Charlotte was hardly vertically challenged but she’d had to tip back her head to stare in awe and wonder at the men with the slashing cheekbones of fierce Celtic warriors. However, professionalism overcame the fact her brain cells had packed up their bags and gone on an extended trip to Turkey.

With hands fisted on her hips and a jerk of her small chin, she’d ordered them out of her ER in a tone that meant they’d complied without a murmur – they didn’t call her ‘the boss’ for nothing.

She’d turned to eye the giant of a man lying on the gurney with a peculiar dazed expression in the vivid eyes behind his glasses. An expression she’d initially put down to the knot the size of a baseball on his temple.

He’d said, ‘Christ, are you real?’ in a deep rumbling voice with a toe curling Scottish accent.

Frowning now, she’d taken off his glasses, lifted his eyelids and shone a pen light into those baby blues to check his pupil dilation. A large hand grabbed her wrist. His thumb circling the now hectic pulse as those eyes lasered into hers.

Then he’d smiled, transforming his implacable features into something that caught her breath and her heart had done the shaky boom boom boom for the very first time.

Her eyes flicked to the hand gripping her slim wrist and she’d given him big eyes.

‘No touching the medical staff, it’s against hospital policy. I have a security team much bigger and badder than you or your brothers.’

He’d let her go and heaved out a big happy sigh.

‘Darlin, I’m going to be doing a lot more than just touching you.’

Used to being hit on by patients and doctors, Charlotte had taken his words at face value and shrugged them off. All the time fighting the way the rumbling voice stirred her blood and her libido.

The Gillespie family were true blue bloods. Their line went all the way back to the twelfth century in Scotland. During their formative years the men in the family had been educated at one of the top public schools in the Highlands, which accounted for the Scottish burr in their deep voices. Of course she’d been flattered when he’d shown an interest in her, but Charlotte was a pragmatist and had understood that the Gillespie family lifestyle and how they lived were a world apart from her own humble beginnings.

She’d refused invitations to dinner, lunch and breakfast. But James Gillespie, senior partner along with his brothers, of the corporate monolith Gillespie, Pattullo & Hindmarch, had laid siege to her body and her heart. In spite of her deep reservations that they were not well suited for the long term, James had marched her down the aisle less than four months later.

And since her marriage life had been one big roller coaster ride. He’d wanted her to give up work and she’d refused even though her grandmother and work colleagues thought she was crazy. But both sides making concessions was the key in any relationship so she worked part time which meant she enjoyed her career without the constant companion of exhaustion.

The hard part was the amount of socialising they had to do with the other partners. Charlotte was the only wife and had the unnerving sense that each time she entered a room the big men looked at her empty womb before sending silent messages of disappointment amongst themselves. Their attitude had slowly chipped away at her fragile confidence and caused a creeping tension to be introduced into their bed. The partners were a close-knit group who appeared to have their own language and every single one of them intimidated her except for Eleanor Pattullo who was a much nicer half of twin sisters. Saira Pattullo terrified Charlotte to the point where she had palpitations if the woman so much as looked at her.

Only at work in the ER did the real Charlotte reign supreme and she clung to the reality of her day job like a woman clutching a lifebelt in a hurricane.

She supposed the timing of their relationship might have been better too since James’s company was in the middle of a multi-billion deal with the Chinese, which meant brutal hours for him, and too many hours alone for her. If she felt a tiny bit neglected Charlotte reminded herself of how lucky she was. Even as the persistent little voice in the back of her mind told her to make the most of it and that if life had taught her anything i
t was that good things never lasted.

Without stopping to think, Charlotte ran up the sweeping staircase made of white polished Italian marble to their bedroom.
