Waiting for Her Page 24

by Jennifer Van Wyk

A huge thank you to my family for being understanding while I ignored life around me. I know I wasn’t the best daughter and sister this year but you all showed me love through it all and I couldn’t be more grateful.

Richie, your insight was invaluable. Thanks for working so hard to become a college athlete just so you would one day be able to help the guidance counselor assistant who gave you food. I’m pretty sure you knew that was your purpose all along.

Matt, you may give me advice that makes me call you an ass but at least it’s entertaining. Now go fix some people’s teeth. Proud of you!

Michelle, you’re stuck with me! FOR-EVA! I love you so much.

Kate, I’m writing this before I get to hug you but dang – I can’t wait for that to happen. You’ve been one of the brightest spots of the year for me and I can’t tell you how much I adore and love you.

Yessi, Tabitha, Denise, Diane, and Alison, thank you for being amazing beta readers! I am so grateful you were all willing to read Waiting for Her in advance and give me your honest opinions!

Andrea, wow, girl. You rocked the crap out of editing but I’d be thanking you anyway. Your insight and attention to the little details is phenomenal. I can’t imagine going through this process without you or your friendship.

Erin, as always, I am so lucky to have you in my corner. Thanks for everything, Blingy Butt!

Jill, good golly woman, you’re the best. (And not just at formatting) I love you!

RVD, sigh I don’t know what else to say. <3

DND authors, thank you for… well, all the things. I am a hot mess 99% of the time but you’ve always been there for me. You’re also an author group I’m so proud to be a part of. Thanks for keeping it classy and supporting one another.

The ladies along with me in The Walk, you’re my place of comfort and happy. Thank you isn’t enough.

Mastas – there’s a lot of information shared between us. It makes me smile.

Juliana, thank you for rocking this cover so hard! It’s so beautiful and gah – just thank you!

Braadyn and Bryce – goodness you’re gorgeous on this cover. Thank you for being willing and understanding my vision.

Kayla, thank you for your sharp eye for proofreading! I love having you on my team.

For Sarah and the entire Social Butterfly PR team, you rock my world. Thank you for taking on a newbie such as myself!

To my Java Girls – you make me smile and support me so much. I never imagined anyone would ever want to be in a group dedicated to my books – I couldn’t do it without you!

To my Keurig. Thank you for always pulling through and never failing me. I’d pet you if it wasn’t weird.

Bloggers, you’re rockstars and your work doesn’t go unnoticed. I promise you. I know your jobs aren’t easy and there are an overwhelming number of releases to help promote. I’m honored and grateful for every single one of you.

Readers, whether this is the first time you’ve read my words or fourth, thank you. My to be read pile is extreme so the fact that you chose Waiting for Her is incredibly humbling.

Like I’ve done before, I need to take a moment to say thank you to the educators and support staff of the world. I’m writing these acknowledgements a few days after summer vacation started and nothing makes me realize your impact more than right now. To my daughter’s teacher, especially. Your influence this year was an incredible blessing.

From the Ground Up was Jennifer’s first published novel and now that she was bitten by the writing bug, has no intention of ever stopping. Jennifer makes her home in small town Iowa with her high school sweetheart, three beautiful, hilarious and amazing kids, one crazy Jack Russell terrier. This is where her love for all things reading, baking, and cooking happen. Jennifer’s family enjoys camping, boating, and spending time outside as much as possible. You'll be her best friend if you can make her laugh and follow up with asking her what to read next. When she’s not writing, you can find her cheering the loudest at her kids’ sporting events (read as: embarrassing them), sipping coffee or iced tea out of a mason jar with her Kindle in her lap or binging on Netflix.

  From the Ground Up

Tess & Barrett Ryan have been married for over twenty years. They’re both hopelessly in love with each other. Have been since they were just seventeen years old. But lately, they feel disconnected. They don’t get time together to go on dates much less bedroom time. Date night no longer consists of the woo. He can’t remember the last time he had his wife to himself. She can’t remember the last time she felt adored. As much as he un-derstands that she’s feeling unappreciated and generally unneeded as his wife, he feels the same. They’re struggling in a way they never imagined when they began their rela-tionship all those years ago.

It seems that their lives won’t slow down and change isn’t going to happen un-less they make it. Together they realize they’ve put them first for far too long and in the meantime forgot what made their house a home to begin with. Will a week in a remote Michigan cabin be enough to remind each other what they built their lives upon? How do they fall back in love with each other when they never fell out of it in the first place?

  Feels Like Home

  "My advice? Be happy."

  Two words.

  Seemed simple.

  Except...

Andy had just caught his wife with another man in their bed.

Angry at his wife's choices and his pride more than just bruised, Andy's life was going dark. Bitterness threatened to wrap around his heart and pull him under.

But his twin sons needed him, and a brightness he hadn't expected entered their lives and wouldn't let the darkness take hold.

Christine learned long ago that choosing happiness and forgiveness was easier than letting the past bring her down.

When Andy stormed into her coffee shop, she knew he needed to know he wasn't alone.

She not one understood being a single parent, but Christine had also felt a similar betrayal.

  They both needed friendship.

Needed someone who got it, who had compassion without judgement.

What they didn't imagine was for it to become... more.

That they would come to share something they never thought they would experience again.

They didn't expect for it to... Feel Like Home.
