“You’re okay now,” I croaked and held her tight. “You’re okay now. No one’s taking you anywhere.”
I left the darkness behind, carrying my wolf like a child. She wrapped her legs around my waist and I strode through the door. The others were waiting, shining eyes not ready to look me in the face. I clutched my wolf.
“Thank you for protecting us. I’m sure you understand now that where this woman goes, so do I. Zadoc’s alive and so is the deputy’s sister. We knew that before watching the disc. He’s alive, so all we need is a plan to get to him.”
Marcus took a slow step toward me. Odessa unwrapped her legs and slid to the ground to stand at my side. “There’s more. I haven’t been given the answers, but there’s a way we can find him, and the humans are involved.”
Marcus reached for his face and rubbed his jaw. That was always his tell.
“You’re hiding something,” I snapped. “What?”
“The damn deputy unleashed a shit storm. We have humans crawling over us, taking our damn pictures, calling us to meet them and give an interview. They want to find out what we are and if we’re a danger. I’ve tried to hold them off. Tried to protect us as best I could.”
“I’ll do it.” Evander shouldered his way from the others. “I’ll do the interview. I’ll be our spokesman for the humans.”
Odessa was already nodding, even as Marcus snarled, “No.”
“Yes, Marcus,” North snapped. “This isn’t a dictatorship. This is a family. Haven’t we learned that hiding and commanding don’t belong?”
My older brother stilled. He blushed. He turned from North to Evander and let out a breath. “You know what you’re getting into? It’s going to be messy.”
Evander nodded and turned to his family. “If this is what I can do to help, then I can do messy. We’ll find a way to get Zadoc and the human woman free. This time we’ll do things together.”
Marcus forced a smile and strode forward, reaching out to grasp my hand. “I hope you can forgive me.”
Odessa’s soft hand clasped over ours as she murmured. “There’s nothing to forgive.”
Abrial raced across the room to wrap Odessa in her arms. “I’m so sorry for everything.”
Sisters…brothers.
We might survive this yet.
I hope you enjoyed the first book in this heart-pounding new Dragon Series.
I can’t wait to show you the next in line… so, here’s a taste of what’s to come…
Evander Kane has stepped up to act as liaison with the humans. A role forced on the family when Deputy Goulding recorded their brother, Marcus, in all his terrifying dragon glory went viral. Now humans are running scared—it’s not just the wolves they fear now—it’s the winged monsters who’ve lived amongst them.
Those humans in power do the only thing they know—perceive the threat, and then eliminate them.
Evander’s the third of twelve. Dragon-born in the sign of Cancer he carries all the traits of his sign--the good and the bad. He's the compassionate one, the one who puts others before himself, the one his family has turned to when the humans invade their home and expose who they really are. But that isn’t all they have to fear.
They’ve been given an ultimatum by their brother’s captor: safe return of the Aries born, Zadoc for the seer wolf, Odessa.
Only one woman can help them now. A human on a mission of her own. A woman who can stand shoulder to shoulder with the most terrifying of their kind and smirk in their face.
Former Marine Gunnery Sergeant, Regan Rivers.
