Jake came to Josh and shook his hand. "Congratulations, Josh," Jake said. "Welcome to the family," he added with a cheerful grin.
One by one, Grace hugged everyone else in the room. The children were particularly excited by the sudden announcement. They were jumping up and down on their toes and hugging each other.
Then Ryan came running up to Grace and Josh. Lifting Ryan up into his arms, Josh smiled at the boy. "You know what this means, Ryan?" Josh asked.
Ryan peered at Grace and grinned. "Grace is my ma from now on?" he asked. Ryan gazed, wide-eyed at Josh. "You and Grace are my ma and pa," Ryan exclaimed excitedly. Grace could see tears shimmering in the boy's eyes.
Grace leaned across and kissed Ryan on the nose. "That's exactly what it means," she confirmed. Josh hoisted Ryan into her arms and Grace embraced Ryan. Wondrous feeling seized her. She glanced across and saw Linus watching her. He nodded his head once, very slowly, granting her his complete approval.
Josh came to Grace and Ryan, wrapping his arm around Grace's waist. They were a family now, Grace told herself. The miracle was complete. God had granted them the greatest gift of all. The love and joy of family. Grace's heart filled with sheer gratitude and perfect joy. She lifted her head up slightly and reverently whispered a prayer of thanks to her Lord.
