  Where we left off….

“Siah, stop it. This club is full of people and you’re holding a gun.” I looked around and we were quickly drawing a crowd. It was just a matter of time before security showed up, so I placed my hand on his arm, but he shoved me behind him.

“Nonie, get the fuck back!” he yelled, but kept his eyes on Laken.

At this point I was desperate, so the next thing that flew out my mouth had better put an end to this nonsense. If there was any truth to the conversation I overheard Laken having, it was about to help me shut these two idiots down. Laken might not give a fuck about killing family, but hopefully Siah would. At least enough that he wouldn't do it right there in a club full of people. I took a deep breath and let it fly.

“Siah, you can't shoot him, not in here, not like this.” I paused for a brief moment and then let the rest roll out my mouth before saying a silent prayer. “He’s your cousin.”

  Siah

It took a minute for what Nonie said to register because there was no possible way that I heard her correctly.

“The fuck did you just say?” I felt my voice escape me in such a thunderous way, that she jumped a little before she responded. My eyes were still on Laken, who wore a look of gratification in his expression. It was taking everything in me not to put a hole right through his forehead.

I was so focused on my need to kill this muthafucker standing in front of me that I hadn't even realized that Nonie had inserted herself between us until I felt her hands on my chest.

“Nonie, get the fuck out the way.”

“No, Siah. It's true, I heard him say it. but none of that really matters as much as the fact that you’re in a club full of people holding a gun. Not your people, Yosiah, his people. This is sloppy, and this is not you. Be smart and put the damn gun down. If you want to shoot him, fine you can shoot him. Just not here in this club, in front of all these people. His people, Yosiah.”

My grip tightened on my gun and my finger was itching to pull the trigger, but she was right. No matter how badly I wanted to shoot this nigga, I couldn’t. Not like this. Jail wasn't for me, and that was exactly where I was going if I followed through and pulled the trigger. I was too damn smart for that.

“Let's go,” I said, lowering my gun and nodding toward Jock.

It took him a minute to actually lower his gun. Like me, he was ready for bullets to fly, but now was not the time. Laken’s people never did lower their guns, but I knew that none of them would pull the trigger.

My eyes moved to Nonie's and I could tell that she didn't know what to think, so I grabbed her arm, taking her with me as I walked away. I could hear Laken’s voice behind me and it almost had me rethinking my decision to let his ass breathe another day, but I kept moving, even after I heard his final words.

“I guess we’ll talk later, fam.” The snide tone in his voice had my pulse racing and my temple twitching. Even still, I kept moving until we reached the front of the club.

“Get in the got damn truck.” I pointed to my vehicle after I reaching in my pocket and pressing the remote to unlock my doors.

“No, my car is here. I can drive myself home. I’m not going anywhere with you while you’re like this,” Nonie yelled, her eyes on me like she was talking to a crazy person.

Fuck, at this point, I guess right now I was. But if she needed crazy then I was gon’ give her that because now was not the time for her to question me. So I snatched her up so quick that she didn't have a chance to react.

“Siah, let me go. You might be mad at Laken, but I didn't do shit to you. I’m going home.”

I pulled Nonie to my chest and looked down into her eyes, which shut her up real quick. “Go get in my got damn truck. I’m not playing with you, Pretty. Now is not the time for this shit.”

I let her go and waited. She glared at me for a few minutes before she looked at Jock and Kizzie, who were a few feet away from us in a heated discussion. Realizing that she didn't have a choice, she stormed over to my truck, got in, and slammed my door. I’d deal with that shit later. Running my hand down my face, I turned toward Jock. When our eyes met, he said something to Kizzie, who rolled her eyes and followed Nonie's lead and stomped over to his car, which was parked next to mine. He stood there for a second, watching her before he made his way over to me, but his eyes remained on Kizzie until she was safely in the passenger seat.

“Please tell me that shit ain't true,” was the first thing out of Jock’s mouth when he was close enough.

“Yo, I don't know what the fuck that shit was, but I’m ’bout to take a ride and find out.”

  “Siah, that changes shit.”

“No the fuck it doesn't, but I’ll hit you up tomorrow. I need to go see my pops.”

“Aight, I’m ’bout to go handle Kizzie’s crazy ass. You good, though?”

  “Yeah, I’m straight.”

Jock just stared at me for a minute, but without any further discussion, he simply nodded. We dapped, shared a brotherly hug and then moved to our vehicles. Once I was in my truck, I glanced at Nonie but didn't say anything. I just started it and proceeded to pull out of the parking lot with my mind moving a thousand miles a minute.

Neither of us said a word, so for the first ten minutes we drove in silence until she realized I had hit the highway. Then I finally heard her voice.

  “Where are we going?”

I gripped my steering wheel for a minute before I was able to look at her. Ignoring her question, I asked one of my own. “Did you fuck that nigga, Zenovia?”

It took a minute for her react, but when she did, it pissed me off even more. She laughed like I had just said something comical.

“The fuck your dumb ass laughing for? You think that shit is funny?”

“Hell yeah I think it's funny. How could you even fix your face to ask me some dumb shit like that? I’m not you, Siah.” Her hand was in the air and her finger was pointing at me.

“Shit, I can't tell. You know that nigga’s secrets, so what the fuck am I supposed to think?”

“Yeah, I’m fucking him. Now what?” she yelled aggressively, folding her arms across her chest and turning her body so that her back was almost against door and she was facing me.

I chuckled before turning my attention to the road again.

When she realized I wasn't going to respond, she yelled at me again. “Well, you don't have anything to say to that?”

Again, I laughed, but this time deeper and more threatening. I still didn't say anything to her, which pissed her off even more. I knew that she was lying and trying to get a reaction out of me, but I wasn't about to give her one. I had more important shit to worry about, so I kept my thoughts to myself and she started mumbling shit under her breath. Once she got it all off her chest, she turned toward the window and didn't say shit else for the rest of the drive, and neither did I.

An hour later, we pulled into the circular drive at my father’s house, and Nonie looked at me in
confusion. “Why are we at your father’s house, Siah? It's two o'clock in the morning.”

“And, the fuck is that supposed to mean?”

“It means it's two in the morning. Your father and Ana are probably asleep, and you don’t just show up at people's house at two in the morning.”

“I do what the fuck I want, especially when I know the security code. Let's go.” I opened my door to get out, but her stubborn ass just sat there, so I walked around to her side and pulled the door open. She released a frustrated breath, rolled her eyes, and got out.

Once I reached my father's door, I keyed the security code, waited for the light on the monitor to turn green, and then pushed the door open. The house was dark and quiet, but moments after we hit the foyer, my father was walking down the stairs. Like me, he was tight with security, so I knew he had us on his screens before we even reached the front door. I could see the concerned look on his face, but that shit didn't faze me because I was about to make it worse.

“So, he's my cousin, which means that Nolan is your brother. Is that why you never killed that nigga and why you keep trying to convince me not to kill Laken?”

When my father was standing in front of me, his arrogant ass ignored my question, which was some shit I would have done. He hugged Nonie and kissed her on the cheek. “Good to see you again, Pretty.”

After she offered an awkward smile, my father turned to me. “Let's go talk... in my office.”

He then turned to Nonie. “Make yourself at home, Pretty. We shouldn't be long.”

She nodded and started walking toward the hall that led to the living room. I didn't even have the energy to entertain whatever thoughts were likely going through her head right now. I would have to deal with that later. Right now, I needed to let my father tell me his version of what the fuck was going on, but somehow I already knew I wasn't gonna be feeling that shit.

I followed my father to his office, where he waited at the door for me and then shut it before moving to his desk. He took a seat behind it while I elected to stand.

“Yosiah, sit down.” My father’s voice was demanding. Usually I would have obliged, but not right now. I was heated and wanted to get to the point. Whether I was sitting or standing was irrelevant to the big picture right now.

“Nah, I’m good. Just tell me what he fuck is going on,” I said, folding my arms across my chest and peering at my father. He wore an annoyed expression, but I assumed that he planned to let my disrespect slide due to the nature of my visit. “Just tell me what I need to know. Is that nigga my cousin?”

Again, my father looked at me like he wanted to beat my ass. I'd honestly be willing to bet he could because I would never go hard against him like I would a nigga in the streets, but right now I didn't really care.

Releasing a frustrated breath, my father leaned back in his chair and clasped his hands together, intertwining his fingers. “He is, and his father, Nolan, is my brother.”

“How is that? And how the fuck don't I know?”

The fuck was this shit? I knew my grandparents, and had never heard shit about my pops having a brother. My grandmother died when I was a teenager, but my grandfather, my pops’ dad, was still very much alive and kicking. I saw him damn near every holiday, and whenever he felt like crossing the bridge to come check us out.

He lived in New York in a big, expensive high rise, thanks to my pops. Haas didn't want or need for a got damn thing. My pops made sure of that. I had been to my grandfather’s house plenty of times, and not once had I ever seen any signs of him having another son. The only pictures around the house were of him and my grandmother, my mom and pops, and me as a kid. No other unidentified people.

“Half-brother. He’s two years younger than me. My pops had a few fucks throughout his marriage, and Nolan was one of them.

“So, Haas don't claim him? Hell, I’ve never heard anything about it,” I questioned, trying to connect the dots.

“Yes, he claims him, always has. I tried to also, but Nolan felt like the outside kid, like my father favored me over him, so he didn't really want anything to do with me or Haas, the older he got. Didn't mean shit to me one way or another, as long as he stayed out of my way.

“So that’s what this shit is about? Your brother has daddy issues?”

“Simply put, yes. It's also about money, power, and pride. Three things I’ve always had, and Nolan has always wanted, but never could seem to get on his own.”

“So he tried to take it from you, but you chased his ass to another state?”

“It needed to be done. So I did it.”

“That’s why you didn't kill his ass?”

My father nodded. “And why you don't need to kill Laken. When it's all said and done, it's still family. I wish it weren't so complicated, but it is, and I can't change that.”

“I get that, Pops, but why the fuck wouldn't you tell me? That’s some shit I needed to know,” I yell, pointing at him.

My father was quiet for a moment before he spoke again. “Yosiah, I know you're upset right now, and possibly even with me. I’m trying to be patient, given the circumstances, but I will not tolerate this disrespect. Is that understood?”

I knew it wouldn't be long before my pops checked my ass, and if I wasn't so got damn mad right now, I would have laughed about it. Me and my pops were cool, and never in my life had I come at him on some disrespectful type shit. That wasn't how we rolled, but this situation was the exception to the rule.

“I didn't tell you because it wasn't necessary. There was no point in you knowing. The relationship was never going to be there, and it was useless to give you that information.”

“Nah, see that’s where you’re wrong. It was very necessary. You always say know your enemies, right? That nigga is my enemy. He was coming for me and I didn't know why. Here I was assuming that he wanted want I had, simply because he was greedy. Now I find out that he’s coming for me on some ‘daddy treats you bette’r type shit. How the fuck can I know my enemies when you’re hiding things from me, Pops? Laken came at me through my girl, and that shit could have been avoided. So, like I said, it was very necessary for me to know what was up.”

“You’re right, but it's too late to change that. Let's just move forward from here.” Senior’s ass was calm as fuck, which wasn't helping the situation. I hated that about him. He was too got damn cool about shit.

“Trust me, I am, but don't expect me to handle things like you. I’m not you, Pops.”

“Siah, you need to think. Don't just act.”

I laughed arrogantly and then repeated myself because apparently he wasn't understanding what I was telling him. Blood might have kept him from pulling the trigger, but it wasn't about to stop me. Especially if Laken didn't know his place. If he wanted to play in the big leagues, then he would have to accept the consequences, and that was the possibility of death. Everyone in our line of work understood that, even Senior.

  “I’m not you, Pops.”

My father looked at me, and again, he released a frustrated breath before he stood and stepped around his desk. Once he reached me, he pulled me into a hug and then looked me right in the eyes with his hands on my shoulders.

“You’re a grown man, and I can't tell you what to do. I’m not even going to try because I raised you to be your own man, make your own decisions, and be man enough to accept the consequences of your actions. Just be sure that you can live with the choices you make. Once you cross certain lines, it's hard to recover from it.”

“I’m good, trust that. But also know that when he came at my girl, he crossed a line too. That shit is on him, so he better be ready to accept those consequences.”

My father nodded, and that was the end of it, for now.

  Nonie

When I woke up the next morning, it was after nine. My body was tired, my eyes were heavy, and I damn sure didn't want to be awake right now. I looked around Siah’s room, and of course he was nowhere to be found. His side of the bed hadn't be
en touched, which was to be expected.

I knew he wasn't going to sleep much after everything that went down with Laken. I still hadn't figured out a way to tell him that not only had I heard Laken professing that they were blood, but that he also had turned someone on Siah’s team.

Siah had made a point of keeping that part of his life away from me, but I wasn't foolish enough to think that information like him possibly having a snake in his camp, wasn't important. The bad part was that in my heart, I really felt like it was Royce. After everything that had gone down with us, he definitely had cause to turn against Siah.

There was no question about where my loyalty was, so I needed to let him know everything I heard. He wasn't up for conversation last night, but I needed to handle that now. When we got back from Senior’s house, he didn't say much. He just kissed me, told me goodnight, and then left me to go to his office and do God knows what.

Not wanting to bother him, I went straight to his room, took a shower, and then climbed into bed. I woke up a few hours later and he still wasn't in bed, so I made my way to his office, opened the door, and found him sitting in his leather recliner with his head back and his eyes closed. I knew he wasn't asleep because he looked at me the second he heard me enter. I asked him if he was he okay. He nodded, and I went back to his room.

After hitting up the bathroom to wash my face and brush my teeth, I noticed that Siah had showered at some point. There was water on the glass doors and a towel was thrown across the top of it. Once I was done, I made my way through Siah’s house and followed his voice to the kitchen where I found him on the phone. He looked at me, but continued talking, so I waited.

He kept his eyes on me the entire time, but he looked stressed. Even still, he looked sexy as hell, wearing only a pair of gray joggers that hung low around his waist. The muscles in his chest and arms flexed from the slightest movement. My eyes took in every inch of his body before going back to his sexy ass lips that I just wanted to suck on. This man was truly too much, but I loved it.
