"They thanked me for informing them and said they had decided to settle near their children in New Mexico permanently. They are planning to put the house on the market. It has ten acres of wooded land behind it, and the house is in excellent shape. I was wondering if we might consider buying it. There would be plenty of room for Bruno and .. well … for books, and nativity sets, and paintings … possibly even children."
"I love that house. I mean … what I’ve seen of it. We didn’t have much time to look at it. As long as you don’t have bad memories."
"I was more worried that you would have bad memories," Murali said. "There is a pool and a hot tub in the back yard. We can certainly go and see the house properly, with the heat and the lights on, as soon as you wish."
""Go now, Karin," the female agent said. "I’ve hear your man talking about all the places he’s gone swimming, but I’ve never heard him say he wanted a pool or a place of his own. Strike while the iron is hot, girl."
"Yes," Karin said. "Let’s go now. As long as Bruno doesn’t have any bad memories of that place, either, I think it is going to be perfect."

They spent a long time looking over the house, since Murali’s rental agreement was still in place. Murali showed her the fieldstone fireplace, the screened-in back porch, the paths through the woods to a willow-enclosed pond, and finally pointed out a spot for Bruno’s kennel.
"It is perfect," Karin said. "When can we tell my mother and sister about the wedding? Are you finally officially retired?"
"Oh … I was going to talk to you about that," Murali said. "They have asked me to stay on, and they want to restart the Laptop Project, now that they know it was never truly compromised. They want to hire you to continue providing research, but working directly for the agency. Probably we won’t deal with operations as deep cover as I have in the past.
"The agency work is demanding. We will be together, and travel sometimes, but not as much as I used to, and … Karin … will you think about it, at least?"
"Yes," Karin said.
"Yes, you’ll think about it?"
"Yes, I agree to the plan. I loved working with you to help solve this."
And we must make time for things I have neglected –"
"The teaching, translation, writing references and study helps, and work with persecuted believers," Karin said.
"Yes! Yes, of course you would already know about that."
"I want to help with that too."
"How else would I be able to accomplish it?" He pulled her close. "We will make time for these other things."
"Of course. I still can’t believe everything that’s happened. It hasn’t even been a week, and nothing will be the same in my life, ever again."
"What do you say we pay a visit to your family right now, and let them know our news. Perhaps they’ll even like to meet Bruno."
"Yes," Karin said. "My sister’s children will love Bruno. I want to fall down on my knees and thank God for you and for everything."
"It all started with a song about falling on my knees," Murali said.
"O Holy Night," Karin said at once. "I kept hearing snatches of it – just the right words for what I needed at the time. It was always one of my favorite Christmas songs."
"Yes! I had the very same song in my head."
They embraced and sang softly together as they left the house with Bruno in tow.
