Wolves at the Door
Chapter One
Aiden really wanted to jump into the pile of leaves behind the house, but he knew Patrick would be angry with him for the rest of the day if he did. He stepped off the porch, balancing two mugs of hot cider in his hands, and walked over to where Patrick stood. Aiden had to clear his throat to get Patrick to stop raking.
“Hey,” Patrick said distractedly, reaching for the mug. “Thanks.”
“Sure you don’t want help?” Aiden said as he sat down on the picnic table and propped his feet on one of the benches.
“I’m fine. Just felt like getting some exercise.” Patrick remained standing as he sipped his cider, though he did at least prop the rake against the table.
Aiden and Patrick hadn’t had sex in weeks. While there was nothing wrong with that, Aiden had started to worry about Patrick.
“Are we okay, Patrick?” he asked.
Patrick met Aiden’s gaze and nodded as he pushed his wavy brown hair off his forehead. “Yeah, baby, we’re fine. It’s just me.” He shrugged. “I feel weird lately, I guess.”
“Because of what our parents said?”
Patrick stared down into his mug. “Your parents never talk much with my parents, yet they all show up out of the blue from opposite ends of the country to remind us our family isn’t complete yet?” He raised his eyes. “I thought things would be better once they’d all accepted that we’re gay.”
Werewolf packs didn’t live together in communes anymore. That had gone out in the nineteenth century. However, they still settled down in packs of three or more. Aiden had two mothers and one father, as did Patrick. Neither of them knew which of the women who had raised them had actually given birth to them, and both of them loved all of their parents equally, valuing the love they’d been given over biology. It had been a happy way to grow up for both of them. All six parents had been surprised to learn Aiden and Patrick were gay, and they had expressed concerns about grandchildren.
“Do you feel incomplete?” Aiden asked.
“At times, but I don’t want what they think we should want. I don’t want to bring a woman in and breed with her. I want our lover to be a man.” Patrick put his mug down and sat beside Aiden. “Your mothers took that better than mine did. Mine looked insulted, as if I’d said I hate women or something.”
“Deep down, they know you. They would never think that you hate women.” He put his cider aside and touched Patrick’s hand. “I want a man to complete our pack, too, so don’t worry about that.”
“I know. You’ve made that clear, but I worry at times, baby. I don’t want you to regret choosing me. You know, not having children and everything.”
Aiden put his arm around Patrick. “Between the two of us, we have nine nieces and nephews already. Our lines will carry on, just not directly through us. It’s seen as odd because we’re both the firstborn, but it’ll be okay.”
Patrick leaned into Aiden’s shoulder. “I don’t want you to wake up one day and think you’ve missed out on something. You dated lots of women before discovering you were gay, something I didn’t do. I never envisioned children, but I have to imagine you did.”
Aiden kissed Patrick’s forehead. “I love you. There is only one thing I want: a hot guy who gets us and wants to fuck us both senseless the moment he sees us.”
Patrick laughed. “Oh, is that all?”
Aiden sighed, visions of exactly what he wanted making him smile. “I want to go inside and make love to you. You’ve been distant lately.”
Patrick pulled away enough to look at Aiden. “I know I have. I’m sorry.” He took Aiden’s hand. “Let me make it up to you. We’ll go out to dinner and then I’ll let you do anything you want to me.”
Aiden smiled. “Anything?”
“Yes.”
As the alpha in their relationship, Patrick typically took the lead in the bedroom, which made it even more thrilling for Aiden to be given free rein. “You don’t make that offer too often.” Aiden leaned in to brush his lips over Patrick’s. “Actually, I want to be claimed again. I want you to chase me through the woods and pin me down.” He moved his lips over Patrick’s cheek, noting his lover’s sexy smile. “And I want a good, hard fucking on the forest floor, exactly like our first time. Tonight, I just need to feel like I’m yours.”
Patrick pulled him closer, kissing his cheek as well. “I remember scenting you so well. I was awe-struck by your beauty as you transformed back into a man and rolled over in submission.”
Aiden sighed again. “I was so happy to become your mate. No male wolf had ever responded to me in that way before.”
Patrick’s fingers played teasingly over Aiden’s knee. “Yes, you seemed happy as I pounded into you. I fell head over heels for those sounds you made.”
Aiden ran his hands over Patrick’s thighs. “I want to fuck now.” He moved his hands up to see if Patrick had an erection.
Patrick stopped him and pulled away, a playfully taunting smile on his face. “I’m the alpha, baby. You’ve made your request. We fuck when I say, especially if you want it to be like our first time.” He yanked Aiden to his feet. “Go shower and change. I’ll finish this and then get ready.”
Aiden groaned in frustration. When Patrick asserted his power as the alpha in their matehood, Aiden became overwhelmed by the need to submit. Now, his wolf wanted to please the alpha by obeying. At the same time, he longed to be fucked.
“If it’s that bad, jerk off in the shower.” Patrick took another sip of cider and then picked up his rake again.
Aiden cupped his aching erection. “I want you to make me come.”
Patrick watched Aiden rubbing himself. “Go get in the shower now,” he looked up and licked his lips, “and I’ll consider it.”
Aiden obeyed, knowing Patrick would suck him off when he joined him in the shower. He loved being able to read his mate so well. Aiden wanted another lover to enhance their love, but for now he was simply happy to know the man he loved still wanted him.

Steven groaned as he hoisted himself onto a log. His ankle throbbed, and he shivered from the rain and the wind. His
car had broken down only a couple of miles from his new home, but he’d fallen and twisted his ankle two feet from the car. He’d also managed to smash his cell phone in the fall. The only way to get help way out here would be to get to his house and use his work phone. He cursed himself for taking it out of his jacket and putting it on the counter.
As the rain slackened up, he noticed that he was only a dozen yards or so from his nearest neighbors’ driveway. A glance down it, however, revealed no lights on. One outside light burned over their garage, but the house itself was dark. Would they be home soon? He’d only seen one of them working outside the house since moving in, and though the real estate agent had told him their names, he couldn’t remember them.
Steven pulled the right leg of his jeans up to look at his ankle, which had started to swell and show a large bruise. The rain stopped, but the wind did not. He began shivering as he pushed his jeans back down. He had decided to try to get to his feet again when he saw the headlights. The car slowed down by his, probably worried it might belong to a burglar or something. Steven pushed to his feet and waved at them.
And fell flat on his face when his ankle gave out.
Something jabbed at his cheek, and he rolled away from it. He heard running, and soon two guys with dark hair looked down at him. A flashlight shone in his face, and he put his hand up.
“Sorry,” one guy said. “Are you okay?”
“Not really. I’m Steven. Just bought the Collins property a week ago.” He tried to point to his car. “My car broke down, and I twisted my ankle because I got tangled up in the jumper cables when I was looking for tools in the trunk. I’d taken them out and put them on the ground to search for other stuff and just forgot I’d put them there.”
The other guy began dabbing at Steven’s face with a handkerchief. “I’m Aiden, and this is Patrick. And you, Steven, are bleeding.”
“Shit,” Steven said. He held his hand up and saw the blood. “If you guys can get me home, I’ll call a tow truck.”
“You can do that tomorrow,” Patrick said. The man looked down at him and took a deep breath. He held it a moment and then let it out, and Steven could have sworn the guy sighed. “Your ankle will make it hard for you to move around. You can stay with us. We’ll push your car into our driveway so no one will hit it.”
“That’s really nice, but I can’t let you do that,” Steven said.
“We’re doing it anyway,” Patrick said, grabbing one arm and nodding for Aiden to help.
Something about Patrick discouraged Steven from arguing further. “All right,” he said as he tried to get back to his feet. They put him back in his car.
Patrick nodded his head at the steering wheel. “Steer for us. Brake with your other foot if you need to. It’s pretty level the first hundred feet, so should be easy.”
Steven nodded and steered as the two guys pushed his car. Both men had brown hair, and in the glow of the overhead light in his car, Steven had seen that Patrick had very bright green eyes. They were built very well, their muscles obvious as they pushed the car. Steven felt bad they were pushing his muddy car in such nice clothes. They’d obviously been out for a romantic evening. Steven cast his eyes down, feeling bad about ogling them. He’d never persuade them to introduce him to any gay friends if he acted like a sleaze, checking out obviously unavailable men. Moving here was about starting over, away from his backwards family and his narrow-minded community. Steven knew he needed to count his blessings and make friends first before worrying about his dick.
Patrick came back around and helped him out of the car. The man smelled so good that Steven had to force himself not to take a deep breath. Patrick, however, seemed fond of taking deep breaths. He took two very deep ones as he helped Steven to their car.
“Just sit tight,” Patrick said before closing the door.
Steven smiled and sat back, trying to stretch his ankle to see how bad his injury truly was. He heard the two men whispering, but he couldn’t make anything out. They both got into the car quickly, turning back to look at him at the exact same moment.
“You okay?” Aiden asked.
Steven nodded. “Yes. I’m fine.”
When the car began to move, he lowered his eyes again. He couldn’t help feeling self-conscious. He was injured and had mud smeared on his clothes, and he suspected he had ruined a romantic evening.

“It’s a good thing we went with my instinct,” Patrick said, turning back to look at Steven again. “I usually want dessert, but something made me skip it tonight.”
“Really?” Steven asked.
Patrick nodded. The young man in their backseat was not a shifter, but his scent still got Patrick’s blood going. Bringing in a non-shifter was by no means taboo, and since their pack would produce no children anyway, it hardly mattered. Steven seemed very shy, but it was possible he was only self-conscious because of the situation.
Outside the car, Patrick had whispered to Aiden that their new neighbor was “perfect”. Aiden had blushed and shaken his head, saying he didn’t want to freak out someone who lived so close. Patrick had kissed him quickly, telling him not to worry. Aiden might need convincing, but Patrick suspected Steven would be open to exploring if he knew Aiden and Patrick were interested in more than a few fucks.
“Yeah, but tonight I just wanted to head home,” Patrick said. “And I’m glad we did. You might have been out there a long time or somehow injured yourself worse. It’s pretty safe out here, but still, anything could have happened.”
“I’m very grateful,” Steven said. “I smashed my phone when I fell, so I couldn’t have gotten help unless I’d been able to get all the way back to my place to use my work cell.”
Aiden turned to look at Steven and then at Patrick before turning his eyes back to the driveway. “You’d have really hurt yourself trying to do that. It is a good thing we came along.”
Patrick reached over and squeezed Aiden’s knee briefly. “We’ve been meaning to drop by anyway. There are only four houses on the entire stretch here on this side of the mountain, so we all like to keep in touch. The Davenports live at the end of the road where it dead ends. They have three children and two big dogs. Mrs. Wood lives closer to the highway. She’s eighty-two, so we all keep an eye on her.”
“It seems very peaceful out here. It’s exactly what I wanted.” Steven winced and shifted.
“We’ll get you fixed up right away. We can at least get your foot elevated and put some ice on it,” Aiden said. “I work from home, so I can take you to your doctor tomorrow, if it’s bad enough.”
“I don’t have one yet, but just a walk-in clinic would be fine,” Steven said, wincing again as the car stopped.
Patrick didn’t like seeing Steven in pain. “We can take you to our doctor,” Patrick said. “He’s wonderful. And cute.” He winked at Steven, seeking to confirm what he sensed about Steven’s sexuality.
Steven laughed nervously and smiled. “So I bet that means he’s not single.”
Patrick smiled. “Nope. Very married. And straight.”
Steven sucked his bottom lip into his mouth. “Too bad.” He sighed. “Okay, I’m gonna get this out there. I came from a small town, so no one accepted me being gay. And I mean no one. Not a single one of my friends and no one in my family. I was treated like shit and stayed because I had a good job. I saved every penny and jumped at the chance to transfer out of there.”
Patrick wanted to climb into the backseat and kiss Steven, but he didn’t. Instead he got out quickly and opened the back door to help Steven out. When Steven took his hand, Patrick said, “Things are very different here. It’s not perfect, but we’ll be able to introduce you to lots of people. You can call on us for anything.”
Steven smiled. “Thanks. That’s good to know.” He blushed a little as he let Patrick help him up the steps and into the house.
Patrick watched Aiden pulling the car into the garage. He gave Steven a friendly squeeze. “I’m glad we met you t
onight, Steven.”
“I am, too.” He blushed again, so Patrick helped him to the hall bathroom instead of pressing further.
“I’ll bring you some clothes. You look about Aiden’s size. Dry off and get out of those wet clothes. I’ll find something for you to sleep in.”
“Thanks,” Steven said as he lowered himself to the toilet. “This is so nice of you guys.”
“Don’t mention it. Just call for me if you need help.” He pointed at Steven’s foot. “Try not to put any weight on it, so you don’t make it worse or anything.”
Steven nodded and pulled his shoe off. “I’ll be careful. I already tried walking on it, and that was stupid. I’ll stay put.”
Patrick went into the bedroom and found a pair of pajamas for Steven and then brought them back. The young man was stripped to the waist and drying his hair. When Steven pulled the towel away, he looked adorable, his hair sticking out everywhere. Patrick couldn’t help smiling as he handed him the pajamas. “Here you go. These should do.”
“Thank you.” Steven took them and put them by the sink, and then he began unbuttoning and unzipping his jeans, not even waiting for Patrick to leave, which sent a thrill through Patrick.
“Need some help getting them down and over your ankle?” Patrick asked, loving the lack of shyness. As much as Steven had blushed before, Patrick hadn’t expected this.
Steven nodded. “Yeah, I think so. It’s pretty swollen, and it’s starting to hurt more.”
Patrick knelt right away. As an alpha, he was the protector and caregiver. He loved taking care of Aiden in any little way he could. He really liked that Steven didn’t hesitate to ask for help. He smiled, thinking of how Steven also had not hesitated to unzip his pants. Perhaps he sensed the pull, too, already feeling at home with them.
