Jove’s Realm Page 4

by Lee Ann Sontheimer Murphy

Before he could try to soothe her again, Skye stood up. She stalked naked to the edge of the roof and peered to the west. Jay lolled on the mattress until she turned around and he saw her face. Terror twisted her features and aged them. “Jay, look!”

As she spoke, a wail began all around them, a sound he recognized as the tornado warning sirens. The high-pitched noise always reminded him of women keening their grief. He joined her and gazed westward. When he saw the cloud, he put an arm around her for protection and comfort, like any mortal man might.

The tornado filled the sky, many stories tall, as high as a skyscraper. In contrast to the lighter overcast skies around it, the funnel cloud loomed black. When he cocked his head, he could hear its terrible roar, like the cry of a great beast. Although still miles distant, not yet entering the city limits, it radiated power. Even as a god, it impressed him, and for a moment, he ached to howl in answer to its mighty rage.

Skye’s expression stopped him. Her fear rankled between them, electric and strong. Sadness turned down her lovely lips and tears stood in her eyes. She shifted her head to gaze at him. “Jay, please!”

Her poignant plea shredded his heart. “Tell me what you want me to do and I’ll do it,” he said.

“Stop it! If that tornado hits Fort Worth, hundreds of people will die. Their homes will be destroyed, pounded into bits and pieces. A lot of folks will be hurt. Oh, Jay, if you are a god, if you’re who you say, please make it go away.”

Panic caused her to tremble. More sirens joined the cacophony ringing in his ears and through the rising noise of the tornado, Jay heard people screaming. He imagined children crying, women weeping, and he knew what he must do. She wants to believe and this will show her my power. But it’s more than that. I can save lives. I can do something good for once.

“Stand back over there,” he told her. “I’ll take care of it.”

Jay climbed onto the edge of the low wall surrounding the rooftop. One false step, one clumsy move, and he would topple to the street far below—but he wasn’t worried. He wouldn’t fall and if he did, he wouldn’t die. As the tornado came closer, he spotted bits of debris in its spinning clouds. He raised both hands high in the air, palms toward the storm. When he did, the twister ceased to move. It rotated in place, an odd sight even for Jay.

He made a tight fist of his right hand and raised it. Then he thrust it toward the tornado, in a punch fashion, and opened his fingers wide. When he did, the dark cyclone erupted into pieces and each flew in a different direction. Jay shouted aloud with a joyous triumph. He waved both arms skyward and thrust away the clouds. Blue sky peeked through the ragged remnants and the sun came out, glorious in a full sunset. Golden rays lit the sky and rose tinted some of the clouds pink against the turquoise-hued sky.

  It was over.

Behind him, Skye fell onto her knees, sobbing. Jay whirled around and caught her up in his arms. “Don’t cry, my love,” he said. “It’s gone. The threat is over. We’re safe. Your city is safe.”

She buried her head against his chest, still weeping, but as he cradled her close, Skye began to laugh. Her delight infected him and they convulsed in peals of merry laughter. Jay hadn’t laughed so much in centuries. After he thought about it, he realized he’d never experienced such mirth or incredible joy. When she could speak, she cupped his face between her hands.

“I love you, Jupiter Jove,” she said. “Jay, you truly are a god.”

He grinned. “I told you so, my mortal woman. Now you believe me.”

  “I do.”

“So, let me love you again, now that I have your full attention.”

  “Yes, please.”

As Jay cradled her against his chest, he kissed her throat, then down to the spot between her breasts. When his lips flicked against them, her nipples grew firm. Skye raked her hands through his hair and he shivered, adoring the sensation. In return, he caressed her belly, then worked his fingers upward to stroke each breast. He suckled each nipple and she quivered in response.

His lips attached to hers with a vacuum seal and clung tight. Skye’s mouth answered his assault with eager exchange. His mouth brought her to the brink of orgasm, he thought, so he lowered his fingers to fondle her pussy. Skye read his mind because she grasped his dick with one hand, her fingers moving up and down the shaft in a way that delivered intense pleasure.

They fell together onto the bed and Skye guided him in. Jay plunged into her soft space and filled it to maximum capacity. He dove deeper as the walls of her cunt squeezed him to hold him tight. His little noises, half moan, part groan and uncontrolled outcries, as he pulled almost out, then thrust back in and out, sent sweet, erotic shivers through his body. Hers, too, he thought. The friction brought them closer to the brink so he slowed and built toward climax with the skill of a torture master and superb lover. He teased and toyed with her until he couldn’t stand any more without coming.

He pulled out. This time he went into her hard and quick, his cock consuming all the space and impaling her. Skye bucked against him, desperate for release, and her hands clawed his back. They strained together, skin to skin, flesh against flesh, as everything hit. They came in a wild torrent of desire, of delight, and of delicious darkness. And they shuddered to a halt as one.

“You’re mine,” he gasped when he had enough air to breathe. “Mine, forever.”

“Yes,” she cried. “I want to be.”

After they cuddled, though, she stirred in the dimness of dusk. “Jay, how can I be?”

She didn’t need to explain—he understood. “You mean because you’re mortal and I’m immortal?”

“Well, yes. I want to be with you forever too, but I’ll get old and someday I’ll die…”

Jay stopped her words with his mouth. “No, you won’t.”

“Then how? You can make me immortal?”

He wasn’t certain but he’d heard stories. “I think it’s possible. And so simple, Skye, you’ll laugh.”

  “Tell me.”

“If I feed you true ambrosia and nectar, the food of the gods on Mount Olympus, you will become divine. You’ll live forever and be my mate until the end of time.”

“I like that idea. Where do we get it?”

Jay grinned. “I know the recipes, my love.”

“Isn’t ambrosia that fruit salad dish?”

“Not in my world and not for gods,” he replied. “I’m sure you’ll like it.”

Skye nodded. “I will, if it makes me immortal so I can be with you forever, Jay. So, when will we have the wedding? Should I pick a date?”

A wedding hadn’t been in his plans. He had never even considered it. Weddings were for mortals, or so he’d always thought. Such human trappings were far beneath him. I offer for her to become my eternal mate and immortality, and she thinks white gowns, lace veils. Incredible. Jay opened his mouth to explain there would be no need, but he caught sight of her rapt expression. Happiness danced in her bright eyes and her smile radiated with beauty. He couldn’t take it away from her and from the powerful love that had taken root in his once-jaded heart, he conceded.

“Whenever you want, my love,” he said. Inwardly, he cringed. She could plan the wedding. He would concoct the proper recipes and provide the food for a ceremony of their own.

  Three months later

Jay never regretted his decision to have a wedding, not when he had his first glimpse of Skye arrayed in bridal white. Her Grecian style gown pleased him and she wore her dark hair flowing free. At her insistence, he’d worn a white tuxedo but his fears that he might look ridiculous faded when he saw his reflection in the mirror. He did veto her first suggestion to have the ceremony in his rooftop oasis but he reminded her it was private, a space for them alone.

Instead, she chose a huge church which provided Jay with great amusement. Once, temples had been erected in his honor, but he said nothing to please his bride. Skye’s guests included a surprisingly large family, numerous journalists and media people, and a se
gment of Fort Worth’s richest. Jay invited a few business associates, Preston, and selected other gods of old, including his old pal Vulcan, Juno, Minerva, Apollo, and others. They moved among the others in attendance, striking in their beauty, but otherwise unremarkable.

“So you married a human, old friend,” Vulcan observed. “She’s lovely.”

“Yes,” Jay said “She is, indeed.”

Late on that October evening, beneath a clear sky dominated by a giant harvest moon and the brightest stars, they dined alfresco in Jay’s garden. They ate ambrosia, the true ancient dish, more of a savory than a sweet, and drank nectar, a honey mead-like concoction Jay had brewed himself for the occasion.

“It’s delicious,” Skye said as she tasted ambrosia for the first time. “It’s like a Greek salad but much more. Are these mushrooms?”

“Yes,” he said. “And certain herbs and rampion and leeks and secret things.”

“I like it. And the nectar is marvelous.”

Jay smiled. “It’s also potent, my immortal love.”

“Am I immortal now?” she asked.

He gazed upward at the sky and the infinite stars. “By the time dawn arrives, you will be, my Skye.”

Skye sparkled in the moonlight. Her luminous skin told him the transformation had begun but he wanted to savor it. “What will we do until then, Jay?”

Jay rose from the table, offered her his hand, and pulled her close.

“I have a few ideas,” he whispered and kissed her. The kiss was just the beginning of the sensual pleasures he had planned for the evening as he began the rest of eternity with his forever love, Skye.

They had forever to spend and he planned to enjoy every moment immensely.
