Year 14 358 of the Nexvrin Dynasty

“Babe, promise me, we’ll face anything that’s coming our way together. You make me the happiest man alive. Promise me to stay by my side and in return I’ll promise you to love you, comfort you, be faithful to you, honor you; to keep you in sickness and in health; in sorrow and in joy, until the end of our days and beyond,” he said, kissing Harok’s fingers.

His smile was broad and his eyes were glistening with wetness when Harok took him into a tight embrace. His lover’s lips were close to his ears.

“I’m yours, my love. Forever,” he breathed.

  “Forever,” he vowed.

He woke up; the words from his dream still sounding in his ears. Harok’s eyes felt heavy. His convulsive sobbing was loud in the silence of his bedroom. The curtains swayed in the wind; their sheer fabric allowing the dim light of the morning sun to shine through.

Reaching up to his face, he felt hot tears still streaming down his face. His breaths were shallow and he swallowed a few times before he felt better again.

Damn, he hated that dream, though it was a memory of what should have been his happiest day in life. Their vows they had spoken in secret. He still remembered it like it was yesterday. The sun had been shining from above, the nebula colorful in the evening. Darvis had worn his best uniform, the silver and gold attachments and scales showing that he was a general of the army. Harok was proud, his smile brighter than the sun. Harok had hoped that his parents, especially his mother, would approve of a general, but he had been wrong. His mother had never liked Darvis, but they’d been a couple since they’d been youths.

So they’d met in the flower maze behind Darlvok-Estate to speak their vows, not telling anyone about it. They’d been young, but still so sure that they were fated mates.

Harok didn’t know what had gone wrong in the years that followed.

He hated thinking about what they had. The memory was still too painful. He had almost given up his true self in the last years of their relationship…until the day everything had escalated.
