“In the biz we call it leverage.” With a satisfied smile, he deployed his rigorous lever to the hilt while rotating his hips. His shaft rubbed against her clit and jarred her pubic bone with each thrust, stoking her sensitive flesh, driving her closer and closer to another climax.

Her body clenched around his while she rode erotic waves of sensation. With a shriek, she came, releasing a convulsive orgasm. Wrapping his arms tighter around her, he breathed heavy and hard against the crook of her neck until he finally exploded.

As her tremors subsided and he loosened his grip on her, the room smelled musky like sex. Smiling and gasping he rolled onto his side, allowing their heated bodies, damp with perspiration from their vigorous lovemaking, to cool off.

Sometime during the explosion, the hurricane had blown away. “Look, the moon.” She panted out the words while lifting her limp arm.

Moonlight streamed in through the window between a rush of clouds, reflecting and bouncing off a small, round wall mirror. Jon’s handsome face was outlined in light and shadows. The bump on his forehead added a ruggedness to his looks. His chest heaved, and she couldn’t resist running her fingers through his crisp hairs and around his flat nipples.

“In the moonlight, you look like a fantasy come to life.” He touched her face with his index finger, caressing her cheek and lips before skimming over her neck and between her breasts and down toward her belly. “At last I can see what I’ve enjoyed in the dark.” Slipping his arm around her shoulder, he leaned in and kissed her cheek, her neck, her ear, anything within lip-locking distance.

The man could kiss and kiss. His lips were in great shape. Probably had something to do with all that on-the-job verbiage he’d mentioned earlier.

“Did anyone ever tell you that you have an inflammatory mouth?” She sighed as his lips tickled a sensitive spot behind her ear.

“Not in those words.” He stopped to stare into her face. Heated eye contact still flickered between them even after their frenzied encounter. “But I appreciate the sentiment.”

When he pressed his lips to hers again, she melted into him. He took her breath away. And obviously her mind. “How did I let things get this far?” she mumbled.

His mouth captured hers, again and again, insistent, stirring, working his magic on her, and she knew how she’d ended up in his bed.

She’d been attracted to him from the minute their eyes met on the boat. An appeal she’d tried to discredit with low points for date-ability when she’d found out where he lived and how unseaworthy he was.

“Something about me got to you.” He let up for air.

“Maybe it was your truthfulness in revealing your deepest secret.” Along with exposing his other flaws. “I never realized honesty was such a turn-on.” She rustled her fingers through the precision-cut hair at the nape of his neck.

He kissed her forehead. “Hold that thought. I have to take care of this.” Getting up from the bed, he limped into the bathroom to dispose of the condom.

When he returned, he pounced atop her and cradled her face in his hands, plucking at her lips with his. “Maddie.”

“Yes?” she said when she got control of her mouth back for the moment.

  “Can we do this again?”

  “I was counting on it.”

  “I mean soon and often.”

She shook her head as best she could with it trapped between his palms. “That’s not a good idea. If we become too involved, we’d judge each other’s families and friends. We’d end up interfering in each other’s lives and eventually reveal each other’s secrets, all in the name of good intentions. I’m afraid we’d only cause each other problems. I hoped for us to remain unentangled.” With her body tangled in his sheets, it belied any truth to her words. “I thought we might meet again next year and divulge whatever problems we’ve bottled up. Or more than likely, the same ones.”

“Ah, so that’s why you said ‘next year’ when you mentioned your business meeting. You were planning on coming here again next year. I thought it was a slip of the tongue.” He touched his finger to her mouth, sliding it between her lips and teeth to drag it across her tongue, back and forth inside her mouth in a rhythmic stroke that contracted her insides and clutched at her womb.

She withdrew his finger, kissed it. He had such distracting, nimble, talented fingers. “Forget my business. I was laying groundwork to ask you about meeting with me next year to exchange our emotional trials-and-tribulations. Voicing my personal concerns with a stranger has been so liberating and addictive.” She searched his dark eyes. Hers felt filled with regret. “Now I’ve ruined it by giving in to my sexual urgings.”

“Nothing’s ruined.” He shook his head. “Look at it as an upgrade. We not only released our emotional frustrations but also our sexual ones.”

She thought about that. “You could look at it that way, I suppose.”

“We could meet here again, or somewhere else if you like, in another year to confide, to make love, to soothe.” He kissed her in between each phrase. “We could also share more than sexual frustrations. What about sexual fantasies?” His voice was enticing drawing her in with its intimate tone. “Ever want to act out your sexual fantasies?”

  She nodded.

“Ever think how ideal it would be to have a stranger who’s willing to indulge your sexual fancies without judgment? Who’s unable to tell anyone you know, ever, because he doesn’t know any person you know? Or anything about you other than your first name.”

Her body thrummed at the notion, at the possibilities. “I never considered it, but it has infinite appeal.”

“We could meet every year to air our gripes and act out whatever sexual fantasies we’ve dreamed up, week after long week, all year long.” His voice sounded seductive, his words suggestive, his proposition easy to imagine, to give in to.

“How would we work out the fantasy part?” Barely able to get the words out, she swallowed, hard, her mind spinning with excitement, her vagina wet and weeping for joy.

“We each get a turn at fulfilling and being fulfilled. Simple enough.” He stroked her arm, downward from her shoulder, her skin quivering in the wake of his touch.

Jon was an exciting lover. Capable. Sizzling.

“We have chemistry.” His feathery touch stopped at her wrist and left her skin tingling for more.

“And history.” Wriggling her hips beneath his, she notched her clit against his swelling erection.

“Deal.” He grasped her hips in his hands and lifted them, his palms sliding beneath her bottom, his fingers massaging her cheeks, spreading them, edging his fingertips ever closer to her bottom hole. The feeling erotic and arousing.

Her eyes fluttered shut, and she lost herself in the sheer pleasure of his touch for a moment. Moisture dripped from her vagina to lubricate between her cheeks, urging his fingers to touch her taut little hole. But all too soon, common sense intruded, jolting the sexual sensations pulsing through her body. Her lids flitted open.

“Let’s not get hasty.” Her voice tasted scratchy in her throat. “We need provisions upfront to guarantee anonymity.” She fidgeted the rough sheet between her fingers. If she went along with this, she needed confidentiality assurances. “Maybe we should sleep on the details. In the morning light, if there is any, we might feel differently.”

“I won’t feel any different. I’m agreeable to whatever conditions you micromanage. Work out the details and itemize them for me on the ferryboat ride before we dock.”

She nodded, relaxing. He hadn’t made false promises of love. Hadn’t tried to con her. She admired his integrity. His honesty was so damn sexy.

“Can we seal the deal with a kiss?” he asked.

She arched her neck and their lips touched. Heat charged the stormy aftermath of the now still air in the bedroom, forcing ideas of any time other than right now from her mind.

He sealed her whole body with kisses. She returned the favor inch for inch. Moonlight danced across their torsos.
Gone were the faceless bodies from before. It was Maddie and Jon, face to face. They couldn’t hide behind the cover of darkness.

Maddie closed her eyes, shutting out the intrusion of any further thoughts or feelings contrary to the ones of the flesh she was enjoying.

Once she was wriggling beneath him and panting, he braced above her on his arms, touched his forehead to hers. “I’m intrigued, Maddie. Tell me a secret sexual fantasy of yours? What erotic craving can I make a reality for you?”

  She licked her lips, thinking.

“You have that many?” He arched his brow, apparently surprised by her sexual appetite.

“I’ve had lusty thoughts about you since we became stranded. I’m human.”

“Very.” He slid his hands beneath her to grip her ass as he moved her slick folds up and down along the shaft of his penis. The hard friction of his erection made her feel frisky and needy.

“Your injury might limit your abilities,” she challenged.

“How energetic are your fantasies? You have me psyched. My imagination’s running rampant.” He dug his fingers into the muscles of her behind. “How about we perform the less taxing ones this year, and the more limber ones next year?”

She hesitated for a moment, then met his sex-laden eyes and held them with hers. “I’ve always wanted to watch a man masturbate.” She sucked in her bottom lip, watched as his eyes lit up. “You. I want to watch you masturbate.”

  Jon’s hold on Maddie loosened.

“There’s more.” She licked her lips. “I want you to spill your hot sperm onto my breasts and rub your come into my nipples.”

He sucked in his breath. “Hunee,” he groaned, “I’m the luckiest man in Maine.”

In his apparent eagerness to indulge her fantasy, he swiftly abandoned his position atop her to kneel alongside her chest. She propped the pillow under her head, tucking her hands beneath it, the better to watch him. Gripping the base of his penis in one hand, he spat onto his other hand before he stroked his palm along the length of his shaft.

His eyes held hers captive. His were glassy and slitted. A wayward lock of hair grazed his eyebrow, giving him an even sexier appearance. A vein on his erection bulged, dark and straining. He choked his hold, fisting his hand around his girth while he glided it up and down. Up and down. Her breath caught as she watched his movements and his face. His eyes closed and his mouth opened with a ragged gasp. His hand jerked, faster and faster.

The head of his penis became engorged. Semen glistened at the tip as the slit opened and leaked. She wriggled her body closer beneath his hand and his erection, lining her breasts up, waiting for his hot liquid to burst forth and wet her nipples.

As his breath quickened, he moaned. Warm, sticky cum splattered onto her chest. Her nipples beaded, rigid, beneath the natural lubricant. His eyes opened as she took her fingers and massaged his fluid into her hard nipples, plucking and tweaking.

Jon groaned. “If you could see what an erotic picture you make.” Slipping from the bed, he grabbed the round mirror from the wall, holding it up, reflecting the moonlight so she could see herself, naked, limbs splayed, wanton, needy. His sperm gleamed, wet and shiny, on her breasts. “Like glaze on a cake,” he said.

She laughed, her voice sounding husky and low. Everything about her seemed sexier and more inflamed. Her voice, her skin, her body.

Tossing the mirror onto the nearby bureau, he ducked from the room to return with a wet, warm washcloth. He mopped up his fluid. The grate of the rough, terry material against her sensitized nipples felt abrasive and thrilling. Her skin responded, wanting more. More of Jon, more of his stroking, more sexual satisfaction.

Maddie took the cloth and cast it aside. “What’s your fantasy?” Her body was primed and ready to fulfill his erotic dream.

“You’ve pretty much made mine come true already.” He feathered two fingers over her breasts and stomach, watching her skin quiver and beg.

“You’re allowed one, easy-to-perform fantasy.” Spreading her thighs, she allowed him entrance as his fingers trailed lower. Her body tingled everywhere, eager, greedy for his touch.

When he slid his fingers into her and flicked at her G-spot, her hips jerked involuntarily. “Hmm, that feels so good. Everything you do feels good.”

“Thank you.” He continued stoking her fires with his agile, long fingers.

“What’s your pleasure?” She gyrated her hips beneath his manipulations.

“That you stay the night in my bed.”

Her eyes flickered wide. She hadn’t intended to spend the night with him. She’d planned to keep things between them more detached. More objective, like the bargain they’d discussed. She needed time away from his titillating body and his skillful machinations to work out the details of their agreement. She couldn’t think clearly with his fingers inside her body, doing extraordinary things to her libido while her womb clenched him tight.

On a moan, she swiftly gave herself up to her sexual urgings and his fantasy. After all, a deal was a deal. She’d figure out the finer points in the morning.

After she sheathed and straddled him and rode him to an orgasmic finish, they lay exhausted in each other’s arms and dosed. Before dawn, she stacked her hands beneath her cheek on the pillow and watched the sky outside the bedroom window turn from gray to daylight. Stipulations to Jon’s scenario for their next meeting tumbled through her mind.

A persistent honking slowly yanked her from her dreamy state. Throwing on her rumpled clothes, she hurried outside.

Orrin stopped tooting the horn of his battered truck when he spied her and waved. “Mornin.’”

Maddie picked her way over scattered leaves, twigs, and branches from last night’s storm. “I didn’t expect to see you.” She leaned into the open window of his pickup. “We never discussed a return fare, and the phone was out, and a tree’s blocking the road.”

“Ayuh. Culver figured that pine for a blowdown this year. I tied the trunk to my bumper and hauled it off to the side of the road. Brought the two bikes up, too.” He pointed to the bed of the truck.

She thanked him with a smile and a nod. “Is there much damage on the island?”

“Nope.” The storekeeper shook his head. “A couple of trees down. Power lines were up and down is all. I had a delivery to make so I thought I’d see if you were ready to leave.”

“Thanks a bunch. I can be ready in a few minutes. There’s also another person inside who’ll need a ride.”

“It’ll be a squeeze.” He patted the split front seat of the truck.

“I’ll tell him.” But before Maddie turned, another vehicle pulled in, kicking up mud. An SUV with a female driver.

“How do, Wanda,” Orrin called out.

  Wanda, the ferryboat ticket lady.

“I promised to stop by and give the inlander a ride to the ferry landing.” Her blonde ponytail swung as she talked.

“Just as well,” he said, “I only have room for the lady.”

“I’ll wait for the man.” Wanda cracked her gum.

Just then, Jon appeared on the porch, bed rumpled and sexier than any man had a right to be after such a strenuous night. And with an injury, too.

She felt unwashed and wilted as Orrin introduced her to Wanda. “This he-ah is Maddie.” He waited until hellos were exchanged before nodding toward Jon, nosy to make his acquaintance.

After Maddie introduced Jon, she told Orrin, “I’ll get my things.”

“Don’t forget the trash. Island has a carry-in, carry-out policy.”

“Will do.” She flashed Jon a smile as she passed him on the porch. He tugged her back by her elbow.

“Hey.” He chucked her under the chin, holding her there with his eyes. “We’ll talk aboard the ferry.”

  She nodded. “How’s the ankle?”

“Pain free.” His eyes searched her face, watching for probable morning-after signs would be her guess.

“I’ll take the bathroom first.” She hurried inside. />
By the time she washed and dressed and stripped the bed linens into a laundry bin, she could hear water running in the bathroom. She tapped on the door as she scurried by. “See you onboard.”

Once she was away from the cottage and Jon, she rolled down the passenger window of the truck, inhaling the fresh tinges of balsam and sea air to clear her mind.

Jon’s proposal to meet on Rose Island again next year to share their frustrations, emotional and sexual, still came up doable. Why not? Her life on Bain Island was fairly predictable. Busy, but loveless. Unless some pirate carried her off, or a dream man loaded with mega-points materialized, she didn’t see any reason not to go ahead with Jon’s suggestion.

“Nice visit?” Orrin aimed a yellowed, I-know-what-you-did-last-night grin her way.

“Aside from the rainstorm that blew through both days, the island was pleasant enough.”

  “Gull Cottage pleasant, too?”

“It was cozy except for the power outages.” She gritted a smile at the snoopy, old coot. He was fishing and it wasn’t for lobster.

“Ayuh. That’s what I thought.” He blinked his rheumy eyes at her and then went back to concentrating on the bumpy, winding road.

Thirty minutes later, they pulled up at the General Store. The ride back had been a lot quicker than the drive out to the cottage on Friday.

He took her bag of trash, and she purchased two red apples and two whole-wheat bagels before heading out of the store toward the ferryboat landing.

Halfway off the porch, he called after her, “Don’t forget your painting.”

“Would you be interested in a loon? I’d let it go free.” Returning, she eyed the goofy-looking loon with the reddish eyes.

  “That’s Trey’s trademark.”

  “Ugly loons?”

Orrin shook his head and cackled. “Nope. His shy shuffle never fails to sell paintings.”

Maddie lugged the painting over to the ticket office and sat down on the splintery, wooden bench to wait for the window to open, which wouldn’t happen until the ticket seller drove up with Jon.

The next ferry didn’t make port for an hour. She ate her apple and her bagel. And still no SUV bearing Jon and Wanda. Awhile later, the ferryboat blew its whistle and docked at the harbor. If they were traveling on the same route Orrin had when he’d driven Maddie to the cottage, Wanda and Jon might miss a few ferries.
