The Perfect Mom Page 23

“You really want to marry me?” Her doubt reared like Mount Rainier over Seattle on a clear day.

He had to unclench his teeth. “I take it the thought hadn’t occurred to you.”

“Well, of course it occurred to me!” She scrambled to sit up, grabbing a blanket to clutch in front of her. Hell, maybe she couldn’t imagine receiving a proposal when she was buck naked. “What did you think, I cried because my little fling with you was soured?”

  “Uh…”

Her voice softened. “I love you, Logan.”

His shoulders relaxed a fraction. “Then…”

  “Yes.” She sounded utterly composed.

  “Yes?”

  “I’ll marry you.”

Flooded with exhilaration and relief, he pulled her on top of him and kissed her. He felt her smile against his mouth.

Logan rolled, so that she was pinned beneath him. “You scared me again.”

“I’m sorry.” Her eyes were huge pools of blue. “You just took me by surprise.”

“I should have waited. Done this right.”

“No. I needed to know that you want me for good,” she whispered, nuzzling his cheek.

“I guess we’ll have decisions to make.” Although it was hard to think right now, with her splayed beneath him.

“I could rent my house to Helen,” Kathleen said tentatively.

“Yeah.” He wouldn’t mind bringing her and Emma home. But another idea had occurred to him. “Or I could sell this place. You do have a basement that could become a workshop.”

Worried creases formed between her brows. “But…I can’t ask Helen and Ginny to go. Helen doesn’t make that much.”

“I wasn’t suggesting you do.” He smoothed her hair back from her face, his thumb working at the worry lines. “Call me crazy, but I was thinking I’d just move in.” Almost apologetically, he added, “I like your household.”

  “You mean that?”

“Yeah. We’ll have Emma anyway. So we can’t wander naked through the house. What’s a couple more people?”

Kathleen giggled. “You have a point.”

  “One condition.”

  “What’s that?” she asked warily.

“You have to let me work on the house. And spend my money on it.”

She blinked. “But…it’ll be your house, too. Why wouldn’t I let you work on it?”

“Just checking,” he murmured, and kissed her.

How lucky could a man get?
