The Rotten Series (Book 1): Infection Page 24

by Lewis, M. Lauryl

Ellis sighed. “I think I should go alone.’

  “Not happening.”

“I can’t risk you leaving these walls. It’s not safe.”

“Don’t be a douche. I go where you go, and I can handle myself.”

“A douche?” he asked snarkily as he wrapped himself around my hips and pulled me farther into a lying position.

  “Uh-huh,” I teased.

“It’s getting dark. We better batten down the hatches and head to bed,” he whispered as his lips grazed mine.

I groaned as he quickly stood up and pulled me with him. As we went around closing curtains, rain began to fall.

“It looks like a storm’s coming,” I said as I pulled the last shade in the living room. A maple tree to our north swayed in the wind and the sky was much darker than usual. I shivered as something unnatural howled in the distance.
