Wrapping the older man in a hug, he squeezed him tight. “I will always need you.”
Aw, damn. So much for holding in her tears. Giving them a bit of privacy, she shuffled a few feet to the right and gave in to a good ugly cry. God, she really was a mushy face. Hell with it, though. Not every day two stubborn jackasses ended a twenty year feud. Totally okay to bawl like an idiot.
The crunch of footsteps announced that Ford and his dad had recovered from their reunion much quicker than she had. Sucking in an obnoxious sniffle, she hurriedly dried her eyes on her shirt sleeve and turned toward them with a cheery smile. “Hey!”
Ford frowned. “Were you crying?”
“No, of course not.” She snuffled. “Damn allergies. So anyway, everything is copasetic now? You’re not going another two decades without speaking to each other?”
Ford slung an arm around his father’s neck. “Absolutely not. What kinda stubborn asses do you take us for?”
“You don’t want me to answer that.”
Her response earned both of their chuckles. Shaking her head, she glanced toward the house. Everyone was gathered on the porch. With the way the ladies were cuddled against their honeys, it was a safe bet she wasn’t the only one who’d indulged in a tear or dozen. Thank God. Because she probably resembled a rabid raccoon. “We should head over for lunch.”
Wayne started toward the house, but Ford took her hand as she started to follow his dad, stalling her. She offered him a confused look and he leaned down to kiss her. “They can wait. There’s something I need to say to you.”
She expelled a soft breath. “I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have whistled right in your ears like that. I promise the ringing will eventually go away.”
His mouth tipped upward at one corner. “That isn’t why I wanted to talk to you, but good to know.” He glanced down at her hand and rubbed his thumb over her ring finger. “Remember how you told me that life is precious and short? That the people we love need to know what they truly mean to us?”
Her heart thumped. “Yes.”
He raised his gaze to hers and the emotion she saw in the depths of his dark irises made the butterflies soar. “I’m head over ass in love with you, Kait. I think I have been since I first saw you, but being the stubborn ass I am, I refused to admit it. Even to myself.”
The stupid dam of tears welled up again before spilling free in an embarrassing torrent. Ford’s knuckles stroked her damp cheeks. “I hope to God these are happy tears, and you’re not about to toss me in that water tank over yonder. We both know how much you enjoy doing that sorta thing.”
She snuffled a laugh. “No, you crazy man. And yes, they’re definitely happy tears. Because I’m head over ass in love with you too. I didn’t want to be. Even when you brought up extending our relationship into an affair, I tried to keep my emotions out of it. But it’s impossible.”
He cupped her cheek. “I don’t want an affair. I want forever.”
“Me too.” She pulled his face toward her and stood on tiptoe to kiss him hard on the mouth. He banded his arms around her and squeezed her tight as his tongue delved inside her mouth. In the distance, claps, catcalls, and dog woofs cheered them on.
He broke the kiss and grinned at her. “This is definitely going into a scene. Hell, I’m going to make an entire show out of it.”
She nibbled on his bottom lip. “Mm. Let me guess, you already have a title spinning in that evil, brilliant mind of yours.”
“Maybe. What do you think of Ford and Kait Live Happily Ever After?”
“I like it. Might be a little long though.”
“Well, got anything better, my sexy muse?”
She cocked her head, thinking about it. “How about...” It came to her in a brilliant flash. “Cowboy Kinky.”
He stared at her. “Holy shit.”
“I know, right? Someone owes me a huge raise for that one.”
“Coming right up.” He hiked her over his shoulder and bee-lined for the barn.
Giggling, she slapped his ass. “You’re forgetting about lunch.”
“No way, darlin’. I’m about to get my favorite meal.”
Oh Lord. Was she seriously about to shackle herself for life to a Cowboy Sex God? Only one thing to say to that.
Giddyup.
EPILOGUE
One month later
“I mean it. If I fall off and break my neck, there will be hell to pay.”
“Aw, sugar. Would I let that happen? Look at it this way. If you break your neck, I can’t look forward to anymore toe-curling blowjobs. I’d be the world’s biggest moron to deprive myself of one of my favorite things.”
It was precisely the right answer to ease her concerns. There was no way he’d risk going the rest of his life without a blowjob. She lowered herself onto his cock, a blissful sigh escaping. He leaned back in the saddle, giving her more room to work. “Put your feet in the stirrups and ride me, cowgirl.”
She dropped her legs and wiggled her bare feet into the attached stirrups on the mechanical bronco. “When you first told me you were buying a horse I thought you’d officially lost your damn mind.”
“But now you agree it’s the best investment I ever made.” He gripped her waist and pumped up into her pussy as the horse began rhythmically rocking.
She chuckled. “I don’t know. I thought I was the best investment you ever made.”
“Without question.” He twined his fingers with hers, his thumb grazing the princess-cut twelve carat diamond gracing her ring finger. “I can’t wait to spend the rest of my days calling you Mrs. Beckett.”
“Does that mean no more darlin’s, sugars, and squash blossoms?”
“Squash blossom? Shit, I kinda like that one. Might have to keep it.” He slid his hands upward along her torso and massaged her breasts. “I really like how your blossoms jiggle when you’re bouncing around on me.”
“I refuse to allow you to use that line in a scene.”
“Too corny?”
“Beyond words.”
“Everyone’s a critic.” He pinched her nipples and gave a sexy groan when she clenched her inner muscles around his cock. “Do that again, and you’ll make me come.”
“Ooh, that line you can use. Very hot.”
“It’s not a line. I fully intend to fill up your pussy.” His palms coasted around to her back and trailed a path along her spine as he ducked his head and sucked the side of her neck.
Aw, hell. He always knew precisely what it took to trigger her orgasm. Gasping, she shuddered, her body melting into him. He joined her in the wild ride of sensation, his cock pulsing as he groaned her name. One of her best investments was the birth control patch that made it possible for him to come inside her. Maybe it made her a weirdo, but she loved that extra intimacy between them. Ford loved it too, naturally. He especially loved to call her his dirty girl and text her throughout the day to ask if his come was soaking her panties. God, he was such a kinky bastard. She was the luckiest woman on earth.
He shut off the horse and nuzzled her lips with his. “Should we tell Jason and Mary who won the bet?”
“Let’s make them wait a little longer.”
“You are a truly evil woman. No wonder I’m madly in love with you.”
She stroked his jaw. “And I’m hopelessly in love with you, my kinky cowboy. I think this means we’re going to have the best HEA in history.”
“I do believe you’re right. I have it on good authority from the script writer himself.” He claimed her mouth in a tender kiss that promised a lifetime of crazy happiness and love.
Lots and lots of love.
