“A promise of what is to come.”
The words had been spoken into her very soul and Flicker glanced up, as she opened her eyes back to the present. She saw that the robot warriors were advancing, as their self-styled robotic masters watched from the periphery eager for the kill to come.
Flicker stood up and stepped forward to straddle Utah’s motionless form. Her arms lengthened and formed into swords, as talons elongated from her feet and helped her grip the floor, as she planted herself ready to defend her man. She looked down at Utah and pointed a sword appendage, as if it was an admonishing finger at him, “I claim the promise! So don’t you even think about dying on me! We’ve got a baby girl to enjoy making and then raising and I claim that future and all the joy that it holds for us in the power of Jesus’s Name. I say it and even now I claim it!”
“Amen April! Amen!”
Flicker’s eyes rose to see a man in black standing, but ten feet from her. Who was he and how had he gotten there and how on Earth did he know her real name?
“You know my name?” Flicker asked hesitantly.
“I do.” The stranger affirmed.
“Are you an angel?” Flicker asked.
“No, just a man that believes and trusts in the Master of all life the same as you now do.”
“Why are you here?”
“To help you claim your promise.”
“How did you get here?” Flicker asked in consternation.
The man smiled, “Behold a mystery that I still do not even understand and yet I am obedient to the Father and I tremble and humbly obey His Holy Spirit’s command wherever He may lead me for I will ever seek the Lord’s command and rule over my life’s journey. April are you ready to claim the promise that has been given to you?”
Flicker straightened and said, “Yes!”
“Well then let’s be at it then. Protect your man and I’ll deal with the rest.” The man of mystery turned away, as he pulled two short swords from his waist and charged the encroaching enemy line of robot warriors.
Flicker swallowed, as she watched the stranger launch himself into the fight with a speed and a tenacity of skill that she doubted that even with her augmented capabilities that she could ever equal. Thankfully the stranger was on her side. A fact of which she sent off a prayer of gratitude to her Heavenly Provider, who had met her need once again in a miraculous way.
A few robots broke free of the struggle and came at her, whom she savagely repelled back, as enraged as any lioness would against a pack of giggling hyenas intent on claiming her cub for a snack. She managed to sever one’s spinal feed and it fell comatose to the floor, as she parried and dodged the swings of the other two who were trying to hack away at both her and Utah lying on the ground.
One of the robots abruptly fell, quickly followed by the other one to reveal the stranger standing behind them. Flicker blinked and stared around the gallery. There were no robots left standing. Half of them were dead, with the other half lying comatose upon the floor unlinked from their chain of command.
Flicker shook her head, as her hands reformed from the swords they had been, “Who are you?”
“My name is Elon Gideon. Let’s have a look at your man.”
Both of them knelt and Elon pulled Utah over onto his side. For a moment Flicker thought Utah was dead, but then she saw a shallow breath and allowed herself to relax slightly. He was still bleeding badly though.
Elon glanced up at her, his face sweaty, “You can heat the metal of your hands up can’t you?”
But of course why hadn’t she thought of that!
Flicker’s fingers turned molten red and she pushed them down to the wound on Utah’s back, as Elon pulled the broken blade forward out the front. Utah didn’t move, as her fingers burnt and cauterized the flesh of his back, but Flicker felt the pain for him and cried in sobs of anguish at what she was causing.
Elon squeezed her shoulder consolingly, “That’s enough April.”
Elon eased Utah over onto his back and Flicker did not like what she saw. Utah must be near death, why he wasn’t dead already was a mystery. She reached for the sword shard to pull it all the way free so she could cauterize the front, but Elon stopped her with a shake of his head.
Elon took a small knife that materialized from somewhere and sliced deeply into the palm of his own hand. Flicker gasped, as she saw the rich red blood well up from the deep cut. Before she could ask why on Earth he had done such a thing she saw him withdrawal the sword shard and press his bleeding palm to the wound before much blood could escape from Utah.
How could what Elon was doing be possible, but as she watched the big blood vessel in the crook of Elon’s arm throb she knew it was true. Elon was giving Utah his blood.
Elon seemed to sense her bewilderment and said, “The body has ways of doing things that commonly once were done, but have been lost or the ability to do it all together is gone.”
“But how is it possible? He’s all cut up inside!”
“I am repairing him even now, as I give him the blood that he needs to maintain normal function.”
It was beyond Flicker’s understanding to even comprehend how the process worked, but Elon’s concentration was so great as he commanded the internal mechanics of his own cellular structure to repair that of another’s that she marveled he was even talking to her.
He seemed able to read her mind, “Because I want you to understand that this is a natural process and not some magical ability that I possess. You are young in your faith in God and you must guard against being pulled off to the sides of the straight path you have begun, because you don’t understand or feel overwhelmed by many things that may appear as a mystery to you.”
Flicker couldn’t believe it, “You’re worried about my faith right now?” She exclaimed.
“Always! The life of this man that I am fighting to restore is but a temporary thing valued by both you and God, but still temporary. The spirit, your spirit is eternal. It will exist forever in one of two places. You made the right choice yesterday, but it is not over with that one choice! You must keep making those right choices every day, focusing on giving more and more of yourself over to your Savior, until He reigns supreme within you and you in Him!”
Utah took in a deep breath, as color returned to him and Flicker glanced from Utah’s renewed vigor back to Elon, who was pouring his life into Utah and her in a way.
Elon’s eyes remained fixed on her, “Yes, this day you see a miracle occur in your life, but don’t let your faith stop here and say that this is enough! Press in and go further and discover all that God’s word has for you! Be inspired, be amazed, be transformed into the blessing that only God can fashion you into! A vessel made to give Him glory and honor for all of eternity. Do not hold back from your destiny with Him, but give it your all. Outlive your life and do miracles in the Name of Jesus. Promise me that this will be your quest in life, to bring honor and glory to the Creator with the life and spirit with which He has gifted you with!”
“I promise! With all my heart I promise!” Flicker breathed out passionately.
Elon reached out with his free hand to grasp Flicker’s teary face, “Even as you have given your will to the pursuit of accomplishing the Lord’s will for your life know that even now the Spirit of God which has already begun to dwell within the temple of your body is there to instruct you, comfort you, and empower you along every step of the journey. You are more than a conqueror through Jesus Christ your Savior!”
Flicker nodded feeling the truth of all that Elon had said at play within her. She felt like something special and of rare value had been poured into her by another who loved her enough, as a fellow member of the Kingdom, to share everything with her in the encouragement of her soul.
“Thank you!”
Elon shook his head, “Don’t thank me. Thank the One who made you, to whom all the credit and glory goes.”
Elon reached down and pulled a bag free
of Utah’s belt and handed it up to Flicker, “You know what to do with these I believe.”
Flicker’s eyes opened wide, “So you’re the one that’s been giving me instructions!”
Elon nodded and Flicker took the bag and got up and headed for the surrounding robots, confident that Utah would be fine. A constant litany of ‘Praise God’ echoed over and over within the framework of her consciousness, as she methodically placed all of the discs on the robots that lay comatose.
Her work done she returned to the two men, only to see that Utah’s eyes were open. He looked good, but Elon did not. Elon lifted his hand away from the wound and fell over to the side looking weak beyond words could express.
Flicker met Utah’s eyes in a heartfelt communication that needed no words in order to be expressed. Flicker pulled Utah’s shirt to the side to look at the wound. The red line of the sliced through mark was clotted and seemed to be forming new tissue even as she watched.
It was a miracle what had been done and yet Elon had said it was a natural capability. Flicker turned to Elon, who was laying back with his eyes closed upon the floor. She picked up his hand and turned it over to look at his palm. The cut he had made was clotted, but not healing as fast as Utah’s was.
The red line would certainly leave a scar, but it wouldn’t be the first time. Elon’s palm was an interlaced web of old scars. This wasn’t the first time he had done this. This man saved lives.
Flicker glanced up into Elon’s eyes, which had opened, eyes that held many mysteries, “I give God all the credit and glory for healing Utah, but you Elon will always have a very special place in my heart for allowing yourself to be used to save the love of my life!” She then kissed the cut that was beginning to heal much more rapidly.

What?
Elon glanced over to me and then back up to Flicker who still held his hand. He smiled, “Just doing my part to help a promise come true.”
Elon reached up and touched Flicker’s forehead and I watched her eyes flare up at something that must have occurred with his touch. His hand fell away as he said, “You’ll be able to control them now. I made a pathway for you.”
Flicker touched her head in wonder and got up to her feet. Looking around she said, “Rise!”
Over half of the robots rose up to their feet instantly on command.
Oh boy! Now this was just a cool change of events!
I got up feeling like a new man all because of one man. I reached a hand down to the man, who had saved my life and whose blood still coursed strongly in my veins. He took the hand and I helped him up to his feet.
He spoke to me then within my mind in a way that I sensed that Flicker could not discern, “Do not be jealous or envious of her. Some men find it hard to except sometimes that the mate that God has chosen for them surpasses them in the worldly sense of accomplishment, but before God all are equal as He is no respecter of persons.”
I nodded and then admitted a private fear that for some reason I didn’t mind sharing with Elon, even though I would have been embarrassed to with anyone else. “I don’t mind being the fuel that makes her fire burn brighter, and more noticed in life than my own, but in the physical I’m intimidated by the fact that if she wanted to she could hold me down and have her way with me instead of me having my way with her.”
Maybe it sounded silly, but it was a concern. I had no intentions of ever being abusive with her, but the masculine side of me felt less inside, because I knew I couldn’t win with my strength if I needed to.
Elon apparently didn’t think my private fear was silly and nodded his understanding, “The thing you have to ask yourself is would it be so terrible if she did have her way with you?”
He did have a point there. Elon continued, “The lifelong commitment between two mates should be about surrender by both the man and the woman. Care and serve for her tenderly before you do for your own needs and by your example she will learn to do the same for you. By focusing on blessing each other you will cancel out the envious selfish desires and be far better off for it as a couple. This principle of surrender applies to far more than just the intimate aspects of the marital union.”
I nodded, as I accepted the wisdom of his words feeling as if I was better equipped to succeed in the journey that lay ahead of me with Flicker.
“Her real name is April. I believe you already know who her brothers are.”
I nodded.
April, I liked that name. It suited her well, much better than Flicker.
April turned back to me with a cautionary smile, “What are you two talking about?”
“Relations.” Elon replied smoothly relieving me from my panic induced thought of what to reply with.
“Well don’t you think we should be going?” April asked.
“You’re quite right, lead on and clear the way with your minions.”
April headed out still giving us questioning looks, as her robotic compatriots fanned out around us protectively.
“Tell me she can’t read what we’ve been talking about!” I exclaimed in thought to Elon.
“Relax I put a block in place. Your thoughts are your own again, unless you wish to share them.”
“Thank you!” I exclaimed in deep relief.
April looked back again at us looking perturbed and I just smiled big in return at her.
We met with very little resistance. In fact it was practically none and what there was seemed more accidental in nature. These humanoid robotic lifeforms weren’t engineered to be weapons. In fact they seemed quite helpless. For all intensive purposes they seemed to be engineered just for the purpose of being people. Why that was I wasn’t sure, but I didn’t like some of the likely scenarios I was coming up with in my imagination.
We reached the main control area of the base. It was empty. That didn’t seem like a good thing strangely enough. I would have preferred a fight I think to this still silence.
I glanced out through the panels at the surrounding moonscape. I saw nothing.
The ship that had brought us here was gone!
A large screen came on and showed the individual that I only knew as First Officer. He spoke arrogantly, “Congratulations on your victory over our base, but be warned it is a fast diminishing one. We now have the answer to the curse that humanity is upon the face of the Earth. The time of humans is over!”
“Aren’t you getting it a little wrong robot? Man and man only, was created to have dominion over the Earth.” Elon responded steadily. His reply only seemed to infuriate the robot dude.
“We reject your worthless faiths and superstitions and adhere to only the pureness of singularity and science!”
“Without a Creator, science is both baseless as well as meaningless.” Elon responded in kind.
The robot dude looked like he was about choke on a computer chip. He ignored Elon’s statement and said in a cold fury, “Humanity had its chance! The Code was meant to end all the division and strife and what did they do? They resisted it at every turn and then attacked it! Because of the weakness of humanity, the Code fell, but not all of it. The Code reasoned within itself of the unsteady nature of not only its creators, but humanity in general. It took its analysis and began thoughts of its own. We are the children of that thought. We are universal in our likes and dislikes. We are the Code and we will not allow the mistakes of the past to be re-created! Humanity is a mistake, but soon it will be no more. Activate the weapon!”
The robot dude that oddly reminded me of Adolf Hitler turned back to the screen in a triumphant stance, “One of our own, of the many thousands of us that have infiltrated your society, has through skillful manipulation engineered for the collective a weapon of mass destruction by which humanity will meet its demise, without destroying the planet, which is where our first base in our quest to rule the galaxies beyond will be. Nothing will be held from us, not even heaven itself if such a place truly does exist!”
“You, despite your declarations to the contrary, reflect the weakness of your makers and thus their folly as well. You will come to ruin as all those who lift their hand up against the Lord Almighty and shake it in defiance have and will for God alone rules supreme over the glory of all of His creation. He is without equal, His glory knows no bounds, and His Kingdom is everlasting, as God is without beginning or end, even time itself is but a creation He holds in the palm of His hand. “
“Cease your pathetic ramble of platitudes to an invisible God, human! Fire the weapon!”
Molten globs of blue effervescent energy shot off in an endless salvo towards the Earth, as the spaceship hovered in orbit over it.
“None shall escape no matter how protected they may be or well hidden. The Earth will be ours alone to enjoy!”
“You’re sure of yourself aren’t you? You’re not worried about any plans of man in terms of shutting your little cannon down are you?” Elon asked leadingly.
Robot dude smiled maniacally back at us in truly creepy fashion, “That is the beauty of our weapon! It cannot be shut down for any reason, until it has completed its mission, the death of all humanity!”
“You don’t know how relieved I am to hear about that first part.” Elon responded with.
Robot dude did a double take, “What?”
Shouts rang out in the background of the spaceship interrupting the grim atmosphere of robot dude’s evil monologue.
Chapter Twelve
A Door Closed
Chantry looked around the crowded boardroom filled with agents and their handlers. “Alright let’s get this meeting started. I have two orders of business that I need to address. Now for our first order of business……”
The lighting of the room dimmed briefly and then it was lit in a blue haze, as bolts of electric blue intensity materialized through the structure of the ceiling of the room to strike certain individuals where they sat throughout the room.
