One Month Later…
I’m looking at Zoe, racing RC cars in the grass with Luca in Maria’s backyard. I’ve never seen her so happy.
“I’m winning!” she crows, her blue car almost to the big tree in the corner.
“No way!” Luca says, zooming his car past hers.
Maria laughs at their antics and sets a glass of iced tea in my hand. “Zoe’s so good with him,” she tells me. “And with you.”
“I know,” I say.
I’m lucky. I can’t believe I almost lost her, almost walked away from everything.
Zoe catches me staring. She gives Luca a congratulatory high-five and walks over with that sexy ass sway of hers that has me eager to get her home later.
“Here comes trouble,” I say with a smirk. Zoe smiles, shaking her head at me.
She perches on my lap and gives me a quick kiss on the cheek.
“Is that all you got?” I tease. I grab her to me and press my mouth to hers, parting her lips with my tongue and tangling a hand in her hair. Zoe pulls away, breathless, and swats me playfully.
“Not in front of the kid!” she laughs.
“Luca!” Maria calls. “Let’s go wash up for lunch.” Luca reluctantly puts down his remote control and walks inside behind his mother.
I grab Zoe closer to me, breathing her in. “Better now?” She melts against me, grinding in my lap. “Mmm.”
I trail my hand down her thigh and squeeze her bare knee. “You know, after all the drama we’ve been through, I think a little rest and relaxation is in order…and it just so happens I need to test out the beds of a possible vacation property.”
“All you want me for is my body,” Zoe grins. “But I accept. As long as the place is safe.” Then she adds, with laughter in her voice, “Just no more vendettas and fires and gunshots, please?”
She’s right, but now that Jimmy’s in jail and—with the help of a certain large donation— Landsley’s campaign is back on track, everything finally feels like it’s back to rights. On top of that, business at the club is booming, better than ever. We’re notorious, and everyone wants in.
“What about undercover investigations?” I tease.
“Nope. All done with that.”

I wince, still a little sore. I was lucky that it was just a superficial wound, but it hasn’t healed pretty.
“Shit, I’m sorry.” Her eyes widen. “Are you sure you’re up for a trip? We can wait—”
“No we can’t.” I slide my hand up her shorts and stroke a finger just under the elastic of her panties.
Zoe leans into me with a sigh. “How about Europe, then? The British elections are coming up, and I could try and work on some pieces for a blog here—”
“My little workhorse,” I laugh. “Alright. As long as you find time for some R&R...and by that, I might mean S&M,” I whisper, leaning close to blaze a trail of kisses down her neck.
