“Fancy meetin’ you all here,” Geri added from under a giant straw sun hat. Cooper admired her figure clad in a tempting purple sarong dress. She had healed quickly and looked better than ever.

“Hold on a moment. How did you…? We were never followed. This island is a pebble! It’s barely on the map!” The Colonel struggled to rise to his feet.

Wells stood and helped the old man.

Geri nodded. “Oh, you’re right. Barely anyone knows it exists. So tranquil for a nice, long getaway. Right, Cooper?”

“True. True. We owe it all to Wells, here. Thank you, McFarland.” Cooper gave the android a slight bow.

“You’re welcome,” the clone android responded automatically.

Cooper stepped over to the big droid and reached up to put his arm over its high shoulders. “My handsome simulation planted a tracking salve on Wells, here.”

Two local officers approached and positioned themselves on either side of the Colonel.

He shouted in frustration as they escorted him away, “Traitor! Betrayer! Charlatan!”

“Say good-bye to the Colonel, McFarland.”

“Good-bye, Colonel.” Wells even waved. “Will you be back soon? Should I get you another drink?”

Cooper chuckled. “No, McFarland. The Colonel isn’t coming back.”

“Oh, can I help you, then?”

“That’s just what you need, Cooper. A personal android.” Geri smirked.

“No, Wells. I think I’m good. Thanks anyway.”

As two more officers walked the gentle giant simulation of McFarland Wells up to the resort, Cooper thought of his long lost client.

“I should call Lucinda, McFarland’s girlfriend. Do you think she’d want to keep the clone android?”

Geri swatted him. “Don’t be ridiculous. But you should definitely call her.”

He nodded and looked out at the water. “You know, Geri. This really is a beautiful, secluded beach.” Cooper hadn’t taken a vacation in forever. He sat down in the Colonel’s chaise lounge and put his feet up. Squinting up at Geri, he patted the seat next to him.

  Geri grinned and joined him.

From his pocket, Cooper brought out a delicate shell necklace and presented it to her. She leaned over, and he placed it around her neck.

Then he pulled her in closer and tasted her lips in a long, delicious kiss.

When they parted, Geri licked her lips. “Mmm. You’re right. And I think I know of a room that just became available.”

  Cooper was in trouble. Again.
