Turning down the four hotels in four years job was hard, but when she compared it to leaving Jeb for four years, it really wasn’t. However, he’d insisted she fulfill her commitment to the management company she worked for, and after a great harvest bon fire send off, she had headed up to do just that.
Walking out of the bathroom, hair freshly brushed and teeth freshly scrubbed, wearing a decent modest, blue dress with black heels, she grabbed his hand, “Let’s go eat!”
“You look fantastic. Hope they can make a decent steak here,” he said, pushing the elevator button.
She looked at him, hunger in her eyes, “Jeb, is steak what you’re wanting?”
“Oh, Candy, you know what I want,” He pulled her close and suddenly realized she’d never done it in an elevator. Sadly, as it binged to a stop and more people came on, she knew it wouldn’t happen tonight either. Soon, though! Goal!
Walking off the elevator a few very, very long seconds later, she led Jeb to the best food in the hotel. They boasted three restaurants, a family diner atmosphere, a bar with snack food, but this was the high-end one. Black tie, wine stewards, celebrities, and checks that easily ran into three figures for one meal.
“Hey, Paul,” she smiled at the man who greeted them. “Got my reservation?”
“Yes, Ma’am, of course. This must be the elusive Jeb,” he said, and Jeb nodded.
“Glad to meet you, Paul,” he said. “Heard a lot of good things about this place.”
“All true,” Paul replied, leading them to a cozy corner booth. Jeb slid across from her and immediately ordered her favorite bottle of wine. He would have rather had a beer, but tonight was all about her. He’d get his steak, and then he’d get her all night. Then soon, for the rest of their lives.
“Missing the ranch?” she asked him, peeking over the menu.
“Not yet,” he said, “Got the one thing I want right in front of me. If she chooses me.”
“Forever.” She smiled at him.
