Jules would wake up in terror from her nightmares, only to be wrapped in the strong, loving embrace of her two shifters, and have her fears kissed away one by one, until they drifted out of her consciousness like dead leaves from a strong oak tree.
It took Jules a long time to get used to feeling safe and secure. It was strange and alien. She hadn’t felt it since she was a teenager, before her father died.
But now she embraced it with the full force of her being. The lazy breeze rustling the pine branches reminded her that she was now, and permanently, at peace. No dark shadows lurked in the recesses of her mind. No vague feelings of impending doom hijacked her senses and robbed her from enjoying the present moment. No anxiety thrummed between her ears.
She felt free. Completely, utterly free.
The truth was, she’d been in a prison for years. A prison of her own making, with the bars fashioned by Nick. But now, finally, she was exonerated.
Jules sighed happily. Each breath of fresh Yellowstone air invigorated her bones and made her shudder with the thrill of being alive.
Sometimes when she looked up in the blue sky above the park, she thought about her father. All he’d ever wanted was for her to be happy. It took a long time, and a hell of a lot of trial and error, but she’d finally got there. She could feel his presence now and wondered if he was looking down on her. Nestled between her two bears as they held her father’s grandson, she knew without a shadow of a doubt that she had made her daddy proud.
