Big Bad Wolf

Meghna saw only one solution. Well, one solution that didn’t involve the stiletto in her hair. She had to fuck him. Tonight.

Big Bad Wolf is a book that combines my politics and my passions. An idea conceived in a much simpler time came to fruition amidst a lot of anger and pain and confusion about the state of the world today. And fear. So much fear. But romance novels are what we turn to for comfort, right? So Joe and Neha helped me, held me, and healed me just a little. I hope some of you feel the same way.
This book would not have made it this far without my mama bear literary agent, Courtney Miller-Callihan, or Cat Clyne, who acquired it for Sourcebooks Casablanca. My Casablanca editors Mary Altman and Rachel Gilmer believed in this project every step of the way and helped me whip the manuscript into fighting shape. Thank you, too, to Stefani Sloma for marketing the hell out of my bonkers babies and putting up with my silliness on Zoom calls, and to Jessica Smith and Diane Dannenfeldt for shining Big Bad Wolf up.My deepest gratitude goes to Sandy Johal, Sonali Dev, and Nisha Sharma for their invaluable eleventh-hour feedback on Neha and her family. Kate Davies, Charlotte Stein, Jackie Barbosa, Jayce Ellis, Elizabeth Kerri Mahon and Melinda Utendorf deserve so many thanks for being the very first sets of eyes on the story and for assuring me it was good enough to be out in the world. Thank you also to Sarah Title for the writing dates, encouraging all the “danger boning,” and answering important questions like “Is it okay to steal pants off a corpse?”
I wouldn’t be here without friends like Melissa Blue, Regina Small, and Michelle Bell cheering me on during this journey. I owe a lot to the folks at 626 and RPS in Chicago for keeping me fueled and fed while I worked on Big Bad Wolf and its sequel, and to the businesses and people on Church Avenue in Kensington and Flatbush, who inspired the books in the first place. And Queens…how can I forget the borough that welcomed me to New York City? The references to Donovan’s, the 7 train, Jackson Heights, and the bar with killer happy hour martinis all come from my years of living in one of the most vibrant, diverse, communities I’ve ever known. Thank you to my “nabe,” and everyone in it. I also have to give a shout-out to the Jamaica Bay Riding Academy. Yes, there is actually a riding school right off the Mill Basin. No, I’ve never been there—and, as far as I know, it is not a secret spy base.
Lastly, thank you to my family. They’re not allowed to read this book (I MEAN IT!), but I’m so lucky they let this creative cuckoo thrive in a nest full of academics. And, Dad, I miss you so much.
