“I think I will ask a couple of the guys. I am sure Kelsey will come too, they all have been dying to see the girls. You know, it wouldn't hurt you to bring them to the station sometime.” Avery loved it when Emily brought the girls to visit him at work. He hated long shifts and being away from them all for days on end. It was part of the job, but it made the time go by easier when Emily visited.

“You do realize what it takes to pack up two babies to leave the house right?” Emily sighed thinking about the process of going anywhere or doing anything with twins. It was like packing for a small vacation. Hell, it took her and Avery less time to pack and leave for Georgia when he lost his mother.

“Join me for a shower, Mrs. Martin?” Avery pulled Emily into his arms and pressed another kiss to her lips, his tongue lingering in her mouth.

“I would but I've been up since three-thirty this morning.” Emily turned for the bed and dropped onto the mattress, praying the girls would sleep until at least 7:30. “I wish you could just grow a set of tits and feed them in the middle of the damn night,” Emily added as Avery laughed before closing the door for the shower.

They say the first six months are the hardest. It may be stressful. I may be sleep-deprived and bat-shit crazy, but I wouldn't give up a single minute of it. Avery and my daughters are the best things to come into my life—ever. One day I know I will look back at this wild ride and miss these sleepless nights.

AND NOW... A PREVIEW FROM DANIELLE A. ELWOOD'S NEXT NOVEL:

  PROLOGUE

Amelia Taylor O'Connor typed out her letter of resignation. Her life had turned into a complete disaster almost over night. The past ten years of her life had been nothing more than an elaborate lie, at the hands of her scheming ex-husband Ben. Everything about her upscale corporate life constantly reminded her of him. She wondered what else he had lied about. She wondered if he ever knew how many dreams she had put on hold for him.

The fact was, she had been so head-over-heels for him, that she had never realized how much of a complete dick he had always been. Her little sister Emily had constantly tried to warn her, but Amelia had never listened. Her ignorance had led to the splintering of their relationship. She had been so willfully blind, not having seen the signs when they first occurred. He'd kept Amelia away from her sister in most respects, especially after her parents had died in the car accident.

She brushed her long, blonde hair behind her ears. Her manicured hands finished the last few lines. She hit the print button and scribbled her signature at the bottom of the crisp page. She turned on her heels and made her way down the hallway to her boss' office. The bastard had been one of her ex-husband's best friends, another reason she couldn't work there anymore. On top of that, her boss was representing her husband in the criminal hearing.

The scene in which Ben's accomplice, Jared, gave his confession was still fresh in her mind.

“My name is Dr. Jared Hart. This is my confession, starting all the way at the beginning. Two years ago I was involved in a hit and run car accident. I killed Mr. and Mrs. Taylor of Ponce Inlet on the Dunlawton bridge. I fled the scene. Ben O'Connor helped me conceal my involvement in the accident. He fixed everything somehow, under the pretense that I would fix everything by marrying Emily and living happily ever after with her parents money.”

Amelia sat clenched in her baby sister's arms, while Jared Hart, Emily's ex-boyfriend confessed all of his transgressions to the police, after breaking into her house. Her sister bawled on her shirt, while Amelia sat in shock. Did he just say Ben? What does Ben have to do with anything? This couldn't be right at all.

A phone ringing in the distance snapped her out of the daydream. She knocked on the dark oak door in front of her before she would be forced to here Robert Ryan's voice. She tipped her chin up, trying to conceal her displeasure and marched into the office. She laid the paper on top of the paperwork he was reviewing.

“Thank you for the twelve years. Now, you can take this job and shove it.”

She turned and made for the door, her heart raging with anger. Just seeing him brought out her temper. Robert's jaw just hung open. He was completely blindsided by her newfound bravery.

“What? Wait... Amelia!” Robert followed her, his voice faltering. She paced back into her office, picking up the box of her personal belongings shoved past him on her way out. "Can we just talk about this?" he begged.

She stopped dead in her tracks and spun on her heels. “There is nothing to talk about. You lost me the second you picked up Ben's case. I wish you the best of luck in your future endeavors.” Amelia turned away from Robert's reddening face and walked through the reception area, waving at the latest temp.

She walked out the door—to the beginning of her new life and her freedom.
