"Beautiful wedding, mate," Marco said.
"Thanks.” Damon looked relaxed, holding a champagne flute. "I'm glad you could come.”
"Wouldn't miss it for the world.”
"Nice girl you've got there," Damon said, indicating to Alex.
"Yeah," Marco said, returning his gaze to her.
"You're watching her like a hawk. She's not going to disappear.”
"She might.”
Damon chuckled. "Like that, is it? Then you haven't noticed the way she looks at you. She's not going anywhere. At least not tonight.”
Sebastian joined them. "Seb," Damon said. Sebastian's eyes were a little bit glassy with drink and he looked relaxed and mellow, with Esme sleeping on his shoulder.
"This is a good place for a wedding," Sebastian said. The moon was coming up, shining on the darkening sea. "Very nice.”
"Are you staying in New Zealand for a while?" Marco asked.
"We're staying a month. Tomorrow we're going to Queenstown.”
"Are you going to ski?"
"Maybe. I'd like to, but no skiing for Sam. Not this time.” His gaze travelled over to his wife, whose hands were absently stroking her belly.
Judith came over and look the sleeping Esme off Sebastian's shoulder. "I'll put her down on the couch by the fire inside," Judith said, smiling down at the little sleeping face. "She is just my little cherub.”
Sebastian sighed and circled his shoulder around, then rifled through his suit pocket, bringing out an oblong box. "Cigar?"
"Sure," Damon said and reached into the packet. With a smile, Marco followed suit.
"Cuban," Damon said, rolling it around between his fingers before taking the tip off. He retrieved a twig from the fire and they all lit theirs in turn.
The acrid smoke ticked the back of Marco's throat and he suppressed an urge to cough. He wasn't drunk enough for smoking, but this was a cigar and it was a special occasion.
"So, number two on the way?" Damon said.
"Yes," Sebastian said with pride.
"And you'll stop at two.”
"Absolutely not. I love everything about growing my family—every part of it.” Sebastian's eyes were longingly taking in his wife's body.
Still a bit creepish in Marco's eyes, but he was glad his sister had found someone who obviously loved her and her family as much as Sebastian did. "How long are you going to keep knocking my sister up?"
"Until she says no," Sebastian smiled, almost a little sheepishly.
Marco's eyes travelled to Alex, with her taut stomach. He'd be there one day. That really was a step beyond the pale for Alex at right now, probably for him too, but they would get there, and he couldn't wait. Smiling, he took another drag of the cigar. The future was bright and it stretched out before him. He didn't really care where it led, as long as she was there. "She's the one," he said quietly.
