Perfectly Able Page 19

I could feel the tingling building up in my most intimate places, a plea to Ridge to give me more.

Oblivious to the cold wind that tugged at our hair, he breathed heavily as his fingertips slid under the lacy edge of my panties. He teased me, his fingers massaging lower and lower until they finally parted my flesh. I shivered, not from the cold, but from the desire that his touch provoked.

His finger probed and retreated until a final thrust had me reaching for the button of his jeans. Fumbling, I managed to get them unbuttoned, and he stood, his clothing joining mine as he stripped bare. The glow of the crescent moon highlighted the contours of his glorious body, and it was obvious that he wanted me as much as I wanted him.

He lowered himself to his knees and bent over my body, his gaze resting on my face. Reaching out to touch him, to feel his hardness in my soft palm, I knew that I loved him. I loved everything about him, even his damn list, especially now that I was on it. To be the object of his desire left me feeling wanted in a way that I hadn’t felt in a very long time.

“Damn, you make everything more beautiful, Ava. Even the moonlight.” His palm cupped my cheek before it left a trail of warmth in its wake as it slithered down my body and rested on my lower abdomen.

He peeled my panties down over my hips, and tossed them in the pile of discarded clothing. His warm hands parted my legs as he positioned himself between them. He gripped my buttocks, pulling me to him as his tongue, hot and wet, explored my body.

When I didn’t think I could take it another minute, he stopped and took a condom from his pocket.

I lay quietly, my body a puddle of liquid heat, as I waited impatiently for him. His muscles rippled into action as he held himself in place over me, his hard-on probing my flesh until he filled me.

As his rhythm built up, my partially closed eyes watched him until the fire he had so skillfully stoked exploded, sending hot embers throughout my body. I cried out with my release, and after a couple of more thrusts, his body went rigid as he convulsed within me.

He lowered his body against mine, his heat seeping into my pores as he pressed a kiss to the base of my neck. My fingers sifted through his hair and pressed him to me. “My sweet Ava,” he whispered.

When he finally rose, I missed him immediately as the cool air took his place. He handed me my prosthesis and my discarded clothing, and we both dressed quickly.

As cool as the autumn evening was, we didn’t retreat into the cabin, Ridge wrapped me in the blanket, and we sat on top of the picnic table, our feet on the bench, and looked out over the lake as the makeshift sailboats floated on its glittering surface.

Ridge’s arm snaked around my back, his hand resting on my hip. Hugging me to him, he kissed my temple. “I want to be your moon, Ava. I want to wash away every bad thing that’s happened in your life.”

My lips parted in surprise as I turned to him, and even though his expression was only dimly visible, I had heard the sincerity in his voice. “I’ll let you be my moon, Ridge,” I whispered, “if you’ll let me be your sunrise.”

We made love again as the moonlight kissed our skin, as our love for each other kissed our souls, and as we lay wrapped in each other’s embrace when the first rays of brilliant sunlight touched the sky, I cherished the remembrance of our night together, knowing that we both had one more happy memory.

Ridge entwined his fingers with mine, his soft whispers of love a soothing balm to my soul, and as I basked in his affection, I knew that I wouldn’t trade my moon for all the stars in the sky.

“I’m so sorry,” she whispered frantically. “Are you okay?”

I rubbed the side of my temple, trying to determine the answer to her question. I felt a lump rising, and I closed my eyes for just a moment and breathed deeply.

  “Let me see,” she said.

I held my palm up toward her. “I’m fine.” I dropped my palm to my knee, not yet rising from my stooped position.

Before I knew what she was doing, her fingers were in my hair, her gentle touch skimming over the spot where our heads bumped. She was so close that I could smell the delicate fragrance on her skin, and I found myself enticed by her.

“Oh, my gosh!” she exclaimed. “A knot. Great. My first day of work, and I’ve already given someone a concussion.”

I laughed, but I didn’t move. I didn’t know why I found her comment so amusing or why I didn’t want her to move her hands. Slowly, I rose, catching her slender wrists in my grasp. “I’m fine,” I said, feeling the pulse in her wrist quicken against my fingertips. Her brilliant green eyes widened, and her full, shimmering-pink lips parted in surprise. “What about you?” I asked.

I wasn’t sure if she heard my question. She stared at me in shock as if the principal had just caught her making out behind the bleachers.

“Dara?” I asked, starting to wonder if she was the one with the concussion.

  “I’m…fine,” she said breathlessly.

I’d been around enough girls to know when I had an effect on them. And she was definitely affected.

Dara wasn’t the type of female I usually hung out with, but it was nice to know I had the same effect on the goody-two-shoes that I did on the bad girls.

My phone buzzed, and I pulled it out of my pocket, glancing at the caller’s name. Speaking of bad girls, Jessie was calling.

  Dara

I thought my heart was going to pound out of my chest. If I hadn’t still been freezing from the cold rain that soaked my hair and clothes, sweat would’ve been trickling down my temples. The warmth from his hands was like heaven against my icy skin, but his close proximity was dangerous to my hammering heart. In fact, if I had to describe Stone Hamilton in one word, it would be dangerous.
