The Heiress and the Cowboy Contractor Page 19

by Maggie Carpenter

“Are you going to tell me what’s under the blanket in the back?”

“Nope. You’ll just have to wait. Remember what I said about patience?”

“Remember? My butt’s still sore, thank you very much.”

  “Happy to oblige,” he grinned.

As they drove through town and passed the Hollister Hotel she broke into a wide smile.

I can’t believe I was staying there all by my lonesome, so upset and miserable, so worried about how I was going to get away from Gerald and my job. My whole life has changed. It’s a miracle.

  “Why the big grin?”

“I’m happy for the first time in ages. How could I not be?” she sighed, “I met you!”

He smiled back at her and added a wink, then turned of the main road and headed towards her house. As they drove up the gravel driveway they saw some branches and domestic litter scattered around, and stopping in front of the house they found some additional debris, but it was nothing compared to the scene at his ranch.

“Wow, this isn’t bad at all,” she remarked climbing from the truck.

“Just the direction of the winds, but that garbage would have been blown up from the lake, that’s a long way.”

“Wow, you must be right, or neighbors maybe?”

“Maybe. Doesn’t matter, it’s way better than I thought it would be,” he said walking next to her. “Nickie, I want you to go on into the house and check out the back yard, but don’t turn around until I tell you, and watch where you’re walkin’. You don’t need to be trippin’ over.”

“Aye, aye, Captain,” she quipped, throwing in a mock salute.

He watched her move carefully forward, then pulling back the blanket he realized he’d have to make more than one trip. Carrying in the first load, he stared around the expansive room and decided on the smaller area where it narrowed into the kitchen.

“Don’t you turn around,” he called as he hurried past.

“I won’t. I’ve learned to do what I’m told,” she called back, “but it’s not easy.”

Returning with the last of the supplies he set everything out, then ambled over to join her.

“You really wanna pool?” he asked putting his arm around her.

“Not really. I was just thinking I might like a big whirlpool tub instead, and a deck, a redwood deck with a ton of flowers.”

“Sounds better,” he nodded. “You’ll be forever cleanin’ a pool back here.”

“Can I turn around now?” she twinkled up at him.

“Yep, but you have to close your eyes first, and then take my arm.”

  “What is this?”

“You’ll find out, go on now, close your eyes.”

Turning her around he guided her through the house, into the kitchen area and set her into a folding canvas chair.

  “Okay, you can open them.”

  “Beau! My gosh!”

In front of her was a table covered with a bright red table cloth set for two, and plastic containers offering everything from a pasta salad to a blueberry-apple crumble.

“Courtesy of Gina,” he smiled, “our first meal at your new home.”

  “I can’t believe it.”

“And this is from me,” he said reaching down and picking up his guitar.

  “You play?”

“A bit,” he grinned, and leaning back against a support beam, he began to strum.

I don’t know where you came from,

I don’t know who you are,

I admit to feelin’ kinda strange

And I’m likin’ it so far,

  You’re a different kinda woman,

  With a different kinda love,

  A different kinda of somethin’

  A naughty Angel from above.

  When you’re nowhere in sight,

I still see you in my mind

And I love feelin’ you against me

Nickie, you’re one of a kind.

  You’re a different kinda woman,

  With a different kinda love,

  A different kind of somethin’

  A naughty Angel from above.

You’re runnin’ fast and runnin’ hard

You can run into my arms,

I won’t let life get you down,

  I’ll keep you outta harm

Sometimes a woman needs a man

to step up and fight her fight.

Ain’t no shame in that my love,

Stick with me, I’ll make things right.

  You’re a different kinda woman,

  With a different kinda love,

  A different kind of somethin’

  A naughty Angel from above

  Sometimes it takes a miracle

to show us how we feel

  Sometimes it takes a miracle

to show us just what’s real

A miracle has touched my heart

  A miracle, it’s true,

That miracle is a blessed love,

  That miracle is you,

  That miracle is you,

  Nickie, that miracle is you.

“Beau, I don’t know what to say,” Nickie stammered, her voice cracking.

“I wrote it a while back, and while you’re were gettin’ better I kinda tweaked it a bit, added to it, changed some things, and then I realized it was done.”

Jumping from her chair she hurried around the table and tried to hug him over his guitar.

“Hang on there,” he smiled pulling the strap over his shoulder and laying the guitar back in its case.

“I don’t care about being patient right now, I have to hug you.”

As he opened his arms she fell against his chest and closed her eyes.

“Thank you,” she sighed, “thank you for everything.”

“Thank you, Nickie,” he breathed. “You’ve brought so much into my life.”

“So much madness, you mean,” she said lifting her head and gazing up at him.

“Madness and real happiness,” he grinned.

“There’s just one thing,” she frowned.

  “There is?”

“I’m not sure I should say it.”

“Well, you have to now,” he said firmly.

“This place. I mean, I’m so happy in your house, and when this place is finished…”

“I’ve been thinkin’ the same thing.”

  “You have?”

“Well, sure. The way I see it, I’m not puttin’ a house up on Flat Top now, no way, not after that wind wave.”

  “Wind wave?”

“I guess that’s what it was. Somethin’ to do with hot and cold air and our mountains. If it happened once it can happen again.”

“So, what does that have to do with-”

“The ranch doesn’t have this,” he interrupted, waving his hand at the stunning vista of the lake laid out below them.

  “Oh, the view!”

“Yep. We can commute, and if you ever get real mad at me you’ll have a place to run away to.”

“I’ll never run away from you,” she said gravely.

“I hope not, but if you ever do, at least you’ll only be five minutes away when you come to your senses.”

“You mean, when you come to yours,” she giggled.

“Either way,” he smiled, “five minutes is as far away from you as I ever want to be.”

  “That sounds perfect,” she sighed.

“How about we eat our lunch, then officially christen this house. In case you hadn’t noticed the sleepin’ bag is right over there,” he winked, tilting his head towards the corner of the room.

“I have a much better idea,” she said coyly.

“I can’t imagine anythin’ better than that,” he frowned.

“How about we christen the house, then eat some lunch.”

“Damn, girl, you’re right, that is a better idea,” he grinned, and sweeping her up he carried her across to the sleeping bag and laid her down.

“The Devil Wind is supposed to blow in tr
ouble,” she whispered. “Instead it blew in this, and this is heaven.”

“You know why?” he breathed, gazing into her eyes, “because it did battle with a naughty Angel named Nickie, and there’s nothin’ and no-one, that can get the better of Naughty Nickie, no-one except me.”

“Except you” she sighed happily, “and that is why I love you so fu-…so very much.”

  FIVE STAR REVIEWS FOR

  MAGGIE CARPENTER

THE WARRIOR AND THE PETULANT PRINCESS

  Review: Nona Cuddles

Awesome. Heart warming but essential erotic. One of the best historical and BDSM novel I have ever read. I hope there is more about the princess and warrior though there journey… Can't wait to read more of Maggie's books.

  I AM A DOMINANT

  Review: G Jackson

“I am a Dominant” is the most honest telling of a Dominant’s story that I have ever read. From the Author’s bio and the Introduction I knew I was in for an ingenuous story. All you need to do is read the Kindle preview and you will be hooked. I understand the five-star streak of reviews because this beautifully written book consists of the most candid and fascinating portrayal of Dominance and Submission that I have come across. The writing itself is flawless, wonderfully edited. If you have never had any experience as a Dominant or Submissive, you will come away from reading this book with an entirely new perspective and all preconceived notions will be shattered. If you are experienced as a Dominant or Submissive you will be thrilled to find an author and subject so relatable and humanizing. James Collier is not the stereotypically fictionalized character with a dark past and tortured soul. The women whom he dominates are not witless, spineless, helpless creatures. Maggie Carpenter has captured the true essence of the Dominant/Submissive relationship and shared James Collier’s story in a way that leaves a lasting impression. I cannot recommend this book highly enough to anyone (of appropriate age) with even the slightest interest in the non-vanilla. It is an extremely worthwhile, stimulating and fascinating read.

THE COWBOY’S RULES: 3: THE SURPRISE

  Review: Lenell

I always enjoy reading about Cassie and Chad, they're like old friends and of course we can't forget Mickey. I love how she had Chad's horse showing in this book and Cassie's jumping. This book was HOT, hotter than the other ones I think, lots of sex and great spankings of course. Chad really helped bring out more of Cassie's submissive side in this one. Also the finally get married in this one! which is bittersweet because it probably means this is the end of their adventure. It was a fun ride!

  THE STRICT BRITISH BARRISTER

  Review: CF

Just bought this a day or so ago, and I've already finished reading it. I buy books to escape into fantasy, and Ms. Carpenter never fails to fulfill that. This book is absolutely awesome. And I like the action right up front. Brittany and Duncan sizzle. (It's almost embarrassing what it does to me, too.) One of the best books by one of the best BDSM Romance authors out there. Well written. Thoughtful story. And it's hot. Loved it.

  THE WANTED COWBOY

  Review: Anonymous

What more could a book offer? Great read and I loved the plot. Luke and Tess are a fun couple and I want more of their story. I hope this is just the first book with them, and we can follow them as their relationship develops. This book has romance, intrigue, some truly entertaining secondary characters, and plenty of spanking and hot sex. Absolutely loved it, and will be reading it again (and again…).

  THE HOURGLASS

  Review: Laurel

Maggie Carpenter tops herself again. Every time I read one of her books, I think there’s no way she can top this, but she does. This book has everything, romance, mysticism, coincidence, spanking and sensual sex and more. Beth had a crush on Michael for years but didn’t have the nerve to talk to him. Michael fell in love with Beth but they never met. After the purchase of an hourglass, things begin to happen. Coincidence? Maybe, read and find out.

  THE COWBOY’S RULES: 2

  Review: Dimples

What an entertaining story. The people were great, the dog fantastic. Please write a continuing story. A very happy read. Loved every page.

  THE COWBOY’S SECRET

  Review: Love’s Kitten

No one writes sex scenes like Maggie Carpenter! I’ve said it before and I will keep saying it so long as she keeps writing these smokin’ hot page turners! You will be drawn in by the storyline that is fast paced and imaginative, and the sex scenes will make you weep with wanting. Trust me. A MUST read, perfect for the beach or a cold, rainy day!

  A PROMISE OF PASSION

  Reviewer: James

From the first word, I was spellbound by Maggie Carpenter’s wonderful tale. Her wonderful story flows beautifully and you will fall in love with her characters, because they truly come to life and leap off the pages! This book has everything you could want in a story: romance, an exciting plot and a handsome, dominant hero who will capture your heart. This book not only promises passion, it delivers!! A must read!

  THE COWBOY’S RULES

  Reviewer: Jule Kijek

This was my first book by this author but it will NOT be my last. I liked that it was a full sized novel. Chad is a super hot cowboy looking to help out a friend. Cassie is a spoiled rich girl in desperate need of a spanking. Toss in horses, horse shows and a lovable dog named McTavish and you have a runaway hit. I just LOVED it. So worth the time and money!

THE ROCK STAR AND THE COWGIRL

  Reviewer: JoJo Bear

I’m a Maggie Carpenter fan, and I snatched this one up as soon as I saw it. NO disappointments here. Don’t want to give any spoilers, but a naughty “good” girl gets what she deserves and so does a very naughty bad girl. Plenty of hot sex, hot spankings and lots of romance.

  THE BRITISH BILLIONAIRE BACHELOR

  Reviewer: Desiree Holt

As one who usually reads and writes heavy BDSM books, I found Maggie Carpenter’s treatment light and refreshing. Simon, thank heavens, is NOT your usual stuffy, it’s-all-about-me billionaires, but a human with doubts and insecurities along with his self confidence. And Belle Somers, well, you just want to give her a hug. The story is entertaining but the strength is in the characters. The author makes them come alive for you and they stay with you long after you turn the last page. A fun read I recommend for anyone who wants to escape with a glass of wine and a good book.

THE BRITISH BILLIONAIRE BACHELOR - ACT II

  Reviewer Paige Matthews

This is another wonderful read by Ms. Carpenter and I full believe readers will love Simon as much as I did. I am eagerly waiting for the third act of their story and anticipating Simon’s revenge. :) Want to find out what I am talking about? Pick up this read and find out!

THE BRITISH BILLIONAIRE BACHELOR - ACT III

  Reivew: Emily Tilton

I’m going to level with you. I read D/s erotic romance for the D/s sex. Ms. Carpenter puts a great deal of plot and character around her D/s sex, and that stuff is solid, but I need to be honest and say that that’s not why I’m reading a book by Maggie Carpenter. I’m reading a book by Maggie Carpenter because she writes the transition from sweet romance to D/s better than almost anyone else I know. She doesn’t disappoint here: Belle (sweet submissive) and her sister Lucinda (brat) both go on D/s journeys with Simon (cultured billionaire) and Joseph (rough and tumble chauffeur) that provide plenty of hotness—especially (for my own taste) when Simon begins Belle’s training. If you like young women under tables servicing the men they call “Sir,” you’ll love this book.

  THE SPANKING PSYCHIATRIST

  Reviewer CF

Of all the dominant-submissive books I’ve read, this one is by far the most clever and the most captivating. The story is strong. It’s not just words wrapped around spanking scenes. It’s so believable, you can feel the emotions of the characters. And you’ll never expect the ending! Dr. Montgomery is simply irresistible, too. If I could find his office, I’d make an
appointment.
