  Made to Mistress

Mary had been in service to the Raslo family all her life, her mother having also been in their employ. It had been a number of years since her own mother had passed on but Mary continued to remain loyal to the Raslo family through the ups and downs of family life. She had enjoyed a happy childhood growing up within the house and had now blossomed into a beautiful young woman.

In the last six months the feel of the house had shifted with the unexpected death of David Ralso, William his son had become introverted over that time and Mary found herself dealing with him when none of the other staff could.

Standing in his study she took a deep breath and watched him attempt to work whilst she waited to be dismissed.

  “Will that be all Sir?”

She watched as he distractedly attempted to fill in some paperwork. Though Mary knew it was the same paperwork that had been on his desk for the past week and from the look of it he wasn’t really filling it in more just reading the same passage over and over again. Watching him she felt a pang of pity for the weight that had suddenly been placed upon his shoulders. He hadn’t been like the others who tended to make it obvious she was their servant, he had very often been found down in the kitchens, and always talked to the staff as if they were real people.

Since the only other young people in the house had been some of the kitchen staff, like Mary herself William had spent a large amount of time down in the kitchens playing games and hiding from his governess with them. As he had grown up a respectful distance had developed but he had always had a kind word to be said and was firm but fair making him very much liked amongst the staff. He was sometimes even guilty of playing the odd prank or two, and was never seen without a smile on his face.

Now however that was all gone. His father’s sudden death quite visibly weighed on his thoughts. In the months that had followed he had become thinner and drawn, never a smile on his face instead being replaced by a constant scowl. His quiet demeanour had vanished and now the majority of the staff did anything they could to stay out of his way.

When he didn’t reply Mary coughed a little trying to get his attention. His eyes flew from the page, face twisted in anger.

“What is it Perkins?” He snapped his face reddening as he stared at her with startling slate grey eyes.

“I was wondering if you needed anything else sir?” She kept her voice soft and calming though she looked at him directly. She wasn’t afraid of him, for all intents and purposes they had grown up together the only difference was that he had money and she didn’t.

“No, of course not, if I had wanted something I would have asked for it. Now get out!” he shouted vehemently at her but before she curtseyed she caught the look of something she didn’t recognise in his eyes and he blushed almost as if he was embarrassed. Brushing it off as simply nothing she bobbed and backed away.

“Yes of course Sir, I’ll be downstairs if you require anything else.”

Slipping out of the door before he had chance to reply she shut the door and leaned back on it closing her eyes briefly. Grief could do many things to a person but she had never imagined it would change someone as much as it had changed William. She wished there was something she could do but she hadn’t the faintest idea what if anything could be done.

“Sleeping on the job?” A voice to her left made her jump as did the hand that quickly ran up her thigh. Batting it away she looked at the speaker.

  “No! I was just...composing myself, I wasn’t here long.”

The hand moved away and took hold of hers. All dismay about William briefly died down as she looked into the loving smile of Harold Roberts, the house butler and her partner of the last six months.

“I’ll believe you, but you have to be careful to not get caught by anyone else.”

“I was just...” she didn’t get any further as Harold shushed her.

“Come on you shouldn’t dawdle, I know you’ve a lot of work to do. I’ll deal with this little incident later for now you should get on with your work.”

Mary’s stomach knotted as Harold smiled at her his eyes filling with desire. Her eyes went wide and she bobbed her head.

  “Of course sorry.”

Harold squeezed her hand showing her he wasn’t upset then nodded.

  “Back to work then.”

She swallowed hard and turned around then fled down the corridor. It wasn’t that she was scared or upset, more that if she didn’t go quickly she knew she’d likely beg Harold for a quick bit of punishment there and then.

Relationships between staff weren’t frowned upon but it wasn’t something to be flaunted, and since the end of the Great War there was a lot more female staff than there had been before. The male staff who remained had like Harold their scars and stories that they never told. Harold had only joined the family fifteen years before and had been one of the first of the staff to be called up for duty. Mary hadn’t known him particularly well before he went but ever since he had come back they had spent more time together, neither of them talking about what had occurred to cause Harold scaring upon his back and arms. In the last few years Harold had been able to focus on the world and his job with an intensity that Mary greatly admired before admitting her feelings to him six months ago. Whilst they were working it fell to Harold as the head butler to give the orders and made sure that all the jobs were done to the high standard he required. If he had to admonish Mary they both knew it was nothing personal just work. When they were both off work however that was another matter. Then Harold still took control for the most part but in an extremely different way. But that would be later tonight for now she had jobs to do and she was already late for them, aware she was already behind schedule she began to run knowing full well the only people who would see her were staff.

William didn’t have any visitors or houseguests at present, she thought as she ran, he hadn’t had any since his father had died. In a way it made her life easier, there were no long hours making the house ready for quests or making sure they were all properly attended to. Yet in a strange way she missed all the hustle and bustle, the excitement that used to bubble up through the house prior to an event but most of all she missed seeing the ladies in all of their finery, the colours and the fabrics of their dresses so far removed from the clothes she was able to afford, and then there were the men all dressed to suit the activities yet always looking remarkably relaxed and at ease with themselves.

Mary had often leapt at any chance she could to be in middle of it them all - even if that meant doing extra jobs. It seemed to her that every little moment she was near or interacting with them or their things she was becoming at least in part one of them. She knew the notion was absurd
however and had never mentioned it to anyone even Harold who had funny but effective little ways at getting at what was going on in her head, something Mary was sometimes unsure of herself.

She dashed into the kitchen and raced around getting her various bits and pieces together for the next job and then she was off again making sure to avoid the cook. Mary had been in service to the household her whole life but that didn’t mean she was at the top of the kitchen. The kitchen no matter how much others hated it was the cooks’ domain. If she wasn’t happy with something she let everyone know and would happily let everything grind to a halt until whatever was wrong got sorted.

Having avoided Cook, Mary set off for her tour of the house courtesy of cleaning all the mirrors, including the rather large full length one at the end of the dining room.

It was late in the evening when she had managed to get all her work done and was finally relieved of her duties. Although her work had taken her closer to William she hadn’t spoken to him again.

It was upsetting to think that they had been friends in childhood but as they grew older society demanded they not speak to one another in the same way and certainly not interact as they once did.

William had continued making regular visits down to the kitchens right up until the time his father had died. The cook had always told her his intentions were clear and directed at Mary although nothing had ever happened between them.

Not that she wasn’t flattered or even turned on at the thought of him. He was much taller than her and broader due to the various outdoor activities he enjoyed, his dark brown hair slicked back away from his high cheek boned face and slate grey eyes all added to a face that was an expression of emotions and lips just right for kissing. As for what the rest of him looked like she only let herself think about such things when she was alone in the bath - an event so rare in itself that Mary always saw it as a very special time not to be rushed. These days of course however there was Harold. Like William he was tall and broad but unlike William he was always restrained, his emotions very rarely on show. Mary put this down to the fact that he was a butler and very good at his job.

The time’s that she did see emotion were when they were together. Then his eyes lit up and she became putty in his hands to be moulded just as he wished.

Harold was already in the kitchen when she came in to put everything away before heading to the small room she had. She didn’t notice him at first and went about putting away the polish and rags she had used. When she finally realised someone was there she turned to see him glowering at her.

“What do you think you’re doing?”

She gulped hard and looked around but it was the cook’s night off and the others were all elsewhere.

“Sorting out my stuff and then going to my room.”

In less than a heartbeat he covered the distance between them leaning down and speaking in a low hiss into her ear.

“We’re not finished for the day you still need to be reprimanded for the little issue earlier.”

Her stomach knotted with excitement, she knew she wasn’t in trouble with him but still she felt nervous. In a blink of an eye he took hold of her wrists and twisted her around she her back pressed against his front.

“Now I need to know you understand what it is you did wrong.”

His voice was low and husky, his warm breath tickling at her ear. She couldn’t help but grin and nodded.

“Good. “ A hand ran down her side pausing at her skirt pulling it up. Mary swallowed hard and glanced to the door no one was there but the idea that anyone could walk in on them made her terrified yet at the same time thrilled her in a way she hadn’t been expecting.

His fingers cupped her ass and squeezed. She could feel his excitement pressing against her leg and wanted nothing more than to turn around and kiss him passionately. Harold however had other ideas and with great ease he twisted around pressing her against the table. Lifting her up he bent her over the table and flicked her skirt up before squeezing her ass.

Without warning his hand came down on her ass making a sharp thwack. Tingling pain spread out from her ass. Mary cried out in shock and tried to wriggle out of the position but a hand pressed down on the small of her back pinning her to the table.

His hand came down again harder this time making her jump. Warmth spread out from the area and her whole body tingled. Her heart raced but despite everything she could feel herself getting wet. Her body wanted more and most of all it wanted Harold.

Another thwack and her yelps became moans. She wriggled trying to push her ass up wanting him to pay more attention to it. It seemed to work because to her delight after one more smack there was the noise of trousers being undone.

“I think you’ve learned your lesson.” His voice was heavy with lust his fingers running down the curve of her ass tracing a line down between her legs brushing up against her clit.

“I...” she got no further as in a quick thrust he was within her. She loved feeling so full and shifting as much as she could so she could force him deeper into her. She rocked with a practiced motion Harold easily matching her movement getting into the rhythm she desperately craved.

Mary clawed at the table arching her back as he grabbed hold of her hair pulling her head back. It didn’t take long for her to feel her body reacting, her stomach knotted and her skin tingled as if she was being shocked with electricity. Every movement he made sent her senses flying.

Pressing back against Harold she felt him throb with one final thrust, his hand pulling back her hair another hand clawing down her back. He grunted deeply as he came. Feeling him throb inside her was enough to send her over the edge as well and as stars swam in front of her eyes she lost all sense of time dissolving completely into the emotion of it all, only dimly aware of Harold’s arms wrapping themselves around her holding her close.

A part of her was vaguely aware of shadows moving beyond the kitchen but she was too far gone to really pay attention to it. Her body tingled all over but slowly she became more aware of herself and everything around her. Soft kisses down her neck made her smile and finding out that Harold had moved allowing her to shift she turned to face him wrapping her arms around him.

“Come on let’s get you to bed.” He said simply lifting her up as if she weighed nothing.

It wasn’t far to her room and taking the key from her Harold opened the door up carrying her in. Laying her down on the bed he kissed her forehead. Mary wished desperately that he could have stayed but she knew that couldn’t happen not whilst they were unmarried.

She looked at him as he pulled away, a look of complete love on his face.

“I do love you you know. Whatever we do I don’t ever want to hurt you.” It was a rare moment of vulnerability as his guard dropped but Mary found her heart beating a little faster.

“I know.” Was all she could say in response as tears of joy began to prick at her eyes.

“Sleep well my love.” He said softly and then he was gone leaving her to get undressed and into bed.

William paced the room not wanting to sit down and too restless to sleep. His mind was racing on too many things, the paperwork and contracts he had yet to complete, the social pressures to entertain and go to events when all he felt like doing was curling up in a corner and staying there. The correct length of mourning had now passed and society expected for him to start to move on, even look for a wife. Now he wasn’t just an eligible bachelor he was also an extremely wealthy one, who was required or expected to take a wife and settle down.

Up until his father’s death he had done as society had expected, more or less. He had had the big parties, gone to the events he was invited to and had even taken a lover or two but he had never had the urge to settle down. That urge was well and truly stamped out with the sudden death of his father. There wasn’t anything suspicious w
ith his death it was just so sudden there hadn’t been any chance for him to come to terms with the idea of losing him. It also meant he was now head of a vast estate and business he didn’t really have much idea about.

When he had been alive his father had greatly distrusted in William’s ability to handle any of the businesses and so for the most part had refused to allow him near it in any aspect. On the rare occasions that he wanted William to take part William didn’t want anything to do with it, something he deeply regretted now.

Pausing mid-step he stared up at the painting of his father just above the fireplace. The artist had caught the ruthless look in his eyes that he always got when he was involved in business. It was a look that William was very used to but not one he was fond of.

A surge of anger and bitterness rushed through him. How could his father have been so selfish as to leave him alone like this. His mother had died fifteen years before in child birth taking his only sister with her and his father had refused to remarry instead throwing himself into his work leaving even less time to talk and spend a rare moment or two with his only son.

With a cry of frustration William picked the painting off the wall and threw it into a corner of the room. The room was beginning to feel too small and claustrophobic. He didn’t remember how long it was since he had left it but now he wanted to. Now he wanted to do something, or talk to someone anyone who knew him well that he could confide in safe in the knowledge they wouldn’t tell anyone.

Knowing the only people in the house were servants he marched out of the room. He didn’t want to summon them as it would seem to formal; he was in the mood to be far more spontaneous.

Not so long ago it wasn’t unheard of to find him down in the kitchen entertaining himself or busy chatting to some of the staff after all they were the nearest thing he had to a family. He had grown up with them and they had educated him in ways his tutor couldn’t, He liked to think it made him more of a person with a better understanding of the people who worked for him, it also brought him much more into contact with Mary who despite himself over the years he had grown increasingly attracted to.
