  Security Risk

Why read a magazine while waiting for your plane to board, when you can have a kinky quickie with a gorgeous officer of the law instead?

Magazine columnist Lake Cooper is shocked when the hot cop working with airport security announces he has to search her bag. Suddenly, the fantasy she had a few minutes earlier of the gorgeous Officer Shane Nelson "arresting" her isn't quite so exciting. When he takes her into a private room to open her suitcase, she’s embarrassed to discover she accidentally tried to board the plane with the bag of sex toys she’s supposed to review instead of her carry-on.

Shane pulls one sex toy after another out of the bag, asking Lake what makes each one worthy of a high mark on her rating scale. As the conversation heats up, it’s obvious the sexy stud with the handcuffs is coming onto her.

More than a little attracted to him, she suggests they set up a date when she gets back so he can help her test out the newest batch of vibrators for review. She surprised when he instead proposes they try them out right then and there. She eagerly agrees and soon they’re trying out not only the vibrator, but a leather paddle and his police-issued handcuffs, too!

  Chapter One

Lake Cooper tugged her overnight bag higher up on her shoulder and shifted to her other foot. God, how she hated going through airport security. Between the slow-moving line and overly suspicious agents from the Transportation Security Administration eyeing everyone as if they were terrorists, it was enough to set anyone on edge. She was determined not to let it get to her, though. She was headed out of town to visit her old college roommate for the weekend and didn’t want to show up in a foul mood. Especially since the whole purpose of visiting was to put her in a better frame of mind in the first place. After kicking out the jackass formerly known as her boyfriend, she’d been irritable lately. This weekend was all about relaxing, having fun and maybe hooking up with a hot guy for some pulse-pounding meaningless nookie.

Ignoring the urge to glance at her watch, she looked down the line to see how many people were in front of her and did a double take when she caught sight of a cop standing in back of the TSA agents. Tall with short, dark hair and a chiseled jaw, he had soulful brown eyes and a wide, sensuous mouth. Not to mention impossibly broad shoulders and biceps that just begged a woman to wrap her hand around them and squeeze. Damn, he was gorgeous. Why couldn’t she have been dating someone like him instead of the jerk she’d been with?

She wondered what the cop was doing at the airport. The way he scanned the crowd made her think he was looking for someone. Maybe he was there to catch a fugitive trying to flee the country. Or maybe he was there to apprehend her because she was so sexy it had to be criminal. She shook her head, almost laughing at her silliness. More likely, he was there as added security.

But then his dark eyes met hers and held her gaze captive for one long, heart-stopping moment, and she found herself wishing she was right about him being there to arrest her. Just the thought of him putting her in handcuffs and having his way with her was enough to make heat pool between her thighs.

Lake bit her lip to stifle a moan and quickly looked away. She really needed to get laid. The lack of nookie was making her want to invite every cute guy she met into her bed. It didn’t help she wrote about sex toys for a living. Most women didn’t think about sex all day at work, but she thought about it nonstop. She was always turned on. And thanks to a certain hunky cop, her imagination was now running wild with all sorts of erotic fantasies involving him using some of her favorite toys on her.

Unable to help herself, she snuck a glance his way again. She’d always had a thing for a man in uniform, and he looked damn good in one. She especially liked the way his shirt stretched tight across his wide chest. She was just picturing what he looked like underneath it when he looked over at her. Although she was a touch embarrassed to be caught staring, she didn’t look away. She couldn’t. The smolder in his gaze was hypnotizing.

She didn’t even realize the line in front of her was moving until the elderly woman behind her gave her an impatient nudge with an elbow. Her face coloring, Lake hurried forward and set her carry-on bag on the conveyer belt along with her purse and low-heeled sandal. She stepped through the metal detector, expecting to pick up her things on the other side. Instead, she had to stand and wait while the couple ahead of her grabbed their stuff.

That was when she noticed a half dozen TSA agents behind the table gathered around the x-ray machine. From the intent looks on their faces, it was obvious they’d found something in a bag that shouldn’t be there. She rolled her eyes. Some idiot had probably left a nail file in their carry-on. When were people going to learn they couldn’t bring stuff like that on the plane?

Behind the counter, the handsome cop she’d been eyeing earlier walked over to take a look at the x-ray machine himself. While it gave her a closer view of all that scrumptious maleness, it also made her a bit nervous. If he was looking at whatever was in there that carefully, it probably meant it was something dangerous. But to her surprise, he didn’t call for backup or instruct everyone to clear the area. Instead, he calmly spoke in low tones to the TSA agents, who started up the conveyer belt again.

The couple in front of Lake had finally picked up their belongings and left. She moved forward to collect her own things from the conveyer belt, but the hunky police officer stepped up and put his hand on her suitcase before she could reach for it.

  “Is this your bag, Ma’am?”

His voice was soft and sinfully sexy, and it took Lake a moment to find her own. “Yes, it is.”

“I’m afraid I’m going to have to search it. I’ll have to ask you to come with me.”

Search her bag? Lake frowned in confusion. Then her eyes went wide as sudden realization dawned on her. It was her bag he and the TSA agents had been looking at so intently before. But she didn’t have anything in there except a couple changes of clothes,
her toiletries and some make-up. Certainly not anything dangerous. This had to be a joke.

But Officer—she glanced at the tag above his shirt pocket for his name—Nelson didn’t look like he was joking. In fact, he looked dead serious.

“Ma’am?” he prompted when she didn’t move.

  Lake nodded. “Y-yes. Of course.”

Quickly grabbing her shoes, she slipped them on, then slung her purse over her shoulder. She was keenly aware of everyone looking at her as she followed him out of the security area and down a long hallway. Great. They probably thought she was smuggling drugs or something. If she wasn’t so damn nervous, she would have been embarrassed as hell. Right now, though, she was more concerned about what the gorgeous Officer Nelson intended to do with her. Suddenly, that earlier fantasy about him arresting her wasn’t so exciting. What if someone had slipped something in her bag when she wasn’t looking? She could end up in jail.

There were several doors along the hallway and he led her to one halfway down on the right, motioning her inside. She nervously tucked her long, dark hair behind her ear and looked around the room as he closed the door behind them. The institutional-style table and two straight-backed chairs reminded her of the interrogation rooms on the cop shows. All it was missing was one of those spotlight lamps. Her stomach churned. Maybe she should ask for a lawyer. She ran through every police procedural show she’d seen on television, but couldn’t remember this situation ever coming up.

Officer Nelson walked over and set her bag down on the table, then folded his arms across his broad chest and leveled his golden-brown gaze at her. Up close like this, he was even taller than she’d realized. Six-four at least, maybe even six-five.

“May I see your ticket?” he asked.

  “Of c-course.”

She pulled the folio out of her purse and handed it to him. He studied the ticket for a moment, then looked at her.

“Can I ask where you’re headed today, Ms. Cooper?”

“I’m going to visit a friend.”

He lifted a brow. “A boyfriend?”

She frowned. She hadn’t expected that to be his next question. “No. Just my old college roommate. Is that important?”

His mouth quirked. “Considering what we saw in your bag on the x-ray, it was a natural assumption. Though I suppose I shouldn’t be assuming anything.”

Okay, now she was even more baffled. What the heck was in her carry-on that made him think she was going to see a guy? More importantly, why had it prompted him to ask to search the darn thing?

“What did you see in my bag?” she asked.

He didn’t answer, but just unzipped the bag and pulled it open. Lake stepped closer to get a better look, and gasped. Instead of clothes, toiletries and make-up, it was filled with the sex toys she’d brought home from work that afternoon to review. She must have been in such a hurry that she’d picked up the wrong bag.

She lifted her gaze to find him regarding her with what looked like amusement in his whiskey-colored eyes, and she flushed hotly. She was pretty sure having a bag full of sex toys wasn’t a crime, so she didn’t think she was in any real trouble. She supposed she could see how all the wires and batteries would set off alarm bells with the TSA agents. Then again, what if they thought she was some kind of a pervert trafficking illicit sex toys across state lines? Was that a crime?

“This isn’t what you think,” she said.

  “No? What is it then?”

Her color deepened. Since when did she blush so much, dammit? She was a mature, intelligent woman who made a living writing about dildos and vibrators. There was no reason to be embarrassed. “I review sex toys for a woman’s magazine. The bag I use for my carry-on is identical to this one. I must have grabbed it by mistake.”

He gave her a skeptical look. “You review sex toys for a living?”

  She nodded.

The edge of his mouth quirked. “You’re telling me you get paid to do that?”

Oh yeah, he was definitely amused. But also intrigued, she realized, if the way he was looking at her was any indication. The words “sex toys” could do that. Her pulse skipped a beat at the glint in his eye. Was Officer Nelson flirting with her?

“Actually, I get paid very well to do it.”

He grunted in reply, but didn’t say anything. She watched as he reached into the bag and pulled out the first box he came to—a glass dildo. Thick and curvy, it resembled an octopus tentacle complete with two rows of smooth little nubs along either side of it. The dildo had caught her attention when she’d first seen it, too. Guess they had the same tastes.

She waited for him to remark on it, but he merely studied the sex toy.

“I’ve heard the texture of the nubs provides an incredible sensation,” she said, feeling the need to say something. “Or so the manufacturer claims. I haven’t tried it yet.”

Lake groaned inwardly. Okay, maybe she probably shouldn’t have said that. She had a bad habit of babbling when she was nervous, though. Or off her game. And right now, this hot cop definitely had her off her game. It was as if being in the same room with all that potent masculinity was making her high or something because she couldn’t seem to think clearly. She could blame that on her sexual dry spell, too.

He eyed her speculatively. “So, how exactly do you go about reviewing this stuff.”

“How?” She reached up to nervously tuck her hair behind her ear again. She hadn’t been prepared for that question. “Um, the usual way. I try out the dildo or vibrator or whatever it is, then give my opinion.”

His mouth curved. “Your boyfriend must like that.”

This was the second time he’d mentioned a boyfriend. Was that his way of asking if she was involved with someone? “I don’t have a boyfriend.”

Officer Nelson made no comment, but she could tell from his expression he was pleased to hear it. She was definitely glad to be unattached at the moment because it was quite obvious he was coming on to her.

He regarded the glass dildo in his hand again. “What else does the manufacturer have to say about this little toy?”

That was an invitation if she’d ever heard one. But did she really want to date a guy she’d just met at an airport security checkpoint? She chewed on her lower lip as she considered that. If they’d met at a club, she would have been all over him. What was the difference? She’d already been on her way out of town to have some fun. Why wait when she’d found a perfectly willing guy right here? They wouldn’t be able to get together until she got back, but at least they could set up a date.

She abruptly realized she hadn’t answered his question. She tried to remember what she’d read on the package for the dildo. If she were writing a review, she’d simply paraphrase what the manufacturer said. But that could end up sounding like a user’s manual. She needed to come up with something sexy and flirtatious, something that would let him know she was interested. Thinking was difficult to do with him standing so close, however, and it took her longer collect her thoughts than it should have.

She wet her lips. “Well, the fact that glass holds its temperature extremely well is very important. To women, anyway.”

He turned it first one way, then the other. “Is it?”

“Uh-huh.” She flipped her hair over her shoulder and gave him her best sultry look. “If you put it in the fridge or a bowl of hot water before playing with it, the added sensation is quite…stimulating.”

His eyes locked with hers. “Really? How interesting. I’ll have to remember that.”

Lake’s pussy tingled at the look in his eye as he said the words. She squeezed her thighs together to ease the ache there. Writing about sex toys in a magazine was one thing, but discussing the nuances of a glass dildo with a man she’d just met—especially one who was as hot and tempting as Officer Nelson—was another. In fact, it was unbelievably arousing. When she finally got around to trying out this batch of toys, her fantasies were going to be off the charts.

  She thought that wou
ld be the end of their risqué conversation, but he placed the box with the dildo on the table and reached into the bag again. This time he came out with an oval, leather paddle. He studied it for a moment, then smacked it experimentally against his palm, a mischievous gleam in his eye.

“This might be a little difficult to try out by yourself,” he said. “Unless you get creative, I suppose.”

So, he still wanted to flirt some more. She was okay with that. “I can get very creative when I have to, but even I have to admit, paddles work best when there are two people involved.”

“It sounds as if you have quite a bit of experience,” he observed. “Have you reviewed a lot of them?”

“I wouldn’t say a lot,” she admitted. “Fortunately, the last time I reviewed one, I was seeing a guy who was more than willing to help me with my research.”

He regarded her in silence, and she wondered if he was thinking about spanking her himself. The image that flashed into her head of being draped over his knee while he reddened her ass was so sexy she almost let out a moan.

“What did you think of it?” he asked.

  “The paddle or the spanking?”

  “Both.”

She hesitated. Up to this point, the conversation had been hypothetical, but now they were verging into a whole different area. He was asking her to divulge a sexual secret. Was she willing to do that?

She gazed into his soulful brown eyes and decided the answer to that question was a resounding yes.

“The spanking was a huge turn-on, but the paddle we used was rather heavy for my taste,” she said. “I prefer one that has more sting to it, and less thud.”

She couldn’t believe she’d just said that. What was she thinking? At least she hadn’t admitted spanking had become her favorite form of foreplay. That would have been way too much information. The conversation was already veering into dangerously erotic territory as it was. Any more talk about spanking and how aroused she got from it, and she might jump him right there. It didn’t seem like he considered her to be a security risk any longer, but if she physically threw him down on the table and climbed on top of him, that could change.
