by Skylar Heart
I need to purposefully breathe or I feel like I’ll run out of air soon. It’s that overwhelming.
As I slump against Tom, not able to keep myself up anymore, I glance at Jake and Mal, right as Mal comes, his body going tense, his mouth open, and it’s like he’s gasping for air. Then Jake moves a few more times, before he comes too, muffling a moan against Mal’s shoulder.
Fucking hell.
This is... Fuck...
I can’t believe we just did this, that I did this... Of course, I can believe it, because it happened, but my mind is still trying to catch up to the idea of what we just did. I fulfilled a wish I was never brave enough to voice, but it seems that I wasn’t the only one interested in exploring certain things more.
Fuck.
I’m almost scared what other hidden dreams they could fulfil...
Beautiful, sexy dreams, with my sexy and dreamy men.
I wince as I move, standing up from the table in the kitchen to get myself more coffee. I’m sore. I’m so sore. It’s obvious that my body is not used to this much pleasure and even though I’d love to have a repeat of last night, maybe not in the next days...
Mal comes into the kitchen, drying his hair with a towel, wearing nothing more than his boxer briefs and I can’t help staring at him. “Mia?” He sounds amused and when I look up at his eyes, he raises an eyebrow. “I was asking what you were doing, but it seems that it interrupted your drooling over my sexy body.” He winks, coming closer, and he gives me a soft kiss. “How do you feel after last night?”
“Sore,” I grumble. “You said you were going to give me pleasure, not that I’d feel this raw the next morning.”
He laughs, sitting on the chair next to mine. “Sorry, should have warned you. Maybe.” Then he glances over to my laptop. “What are you working on?”
My cheeks heat up, and he raises an eyebrow at me.
“Why does that make you blush? Was it porn or something?” He takes a better look at my screen, but then frowns as he sees the website from one of the nearby universities. “You’ve got a strange idea about porn... But I’m not gonna yuck your yum.”
I laugh, shaking my head. “That’s not...” I sigh. “I thought that... You know... Maybe I could...” I take another breath. Why am I so scared to say this? I know why, because it’s hard to face my failings. “I’m looking to see if I can maybe actually finish my masters degree this time. I never finished it, dropped out early because of stuff. But now...” I shrug and am slightly surprised by the excited smile Mal is giving me. “What?”
He shakes his head, grinning even more. “Nothing. Just happy.”
It seems he’s already way ahead of where I am right now. “I don’t know if I can make it work, it’s expensive and I don’t have any savings and things like that. But...”
He puts his hand over mine. “You should do it. It’s been your dream for a long time, and we’re all here to support you, no matter what you want to do.”
I nod. “Thanks. I have no idea if I’ll even be accepted, and then I’ll have to come up with the money, which won’t be easy either. It’s just...”
Mal leans closer, making sure I’m looking at him. “You’ll work it out. You always do.” Then he gives me a quick kiss.
“What will she work out?” Jake’s voice comes from the door to the hallway.
“Mia is going back to university.” Mal gets up, going over to Jake, giving him a quick kiss and then he’s up the stairs, probably to get dressed, hopefully to get dressed because it’s hard to stay serious when I keep getting distracted by him.
“Sounds like a good plan.” Jake comes over, sitting in the chair Mal just vacated. “Do you know where you want to go yet?”
I shake my head. “Most of the universities around here offer what I want, so I’ll have to look at what’s the easiest to get to and who’ll accept me.”
“They’d be crazy not to accept you. You’re crazy smart.” Jake smirks, giving me butterflies in my stomach.
“I’m not...”
“You are.” He winks.
I roll my eyes at him. “Still doesn’t explain why I dropped out last time, or all the other strange breaks I took from work and my degrees. It’s not going to be easy.”
“Mia.” His voice is soft, low. “Nothing is going to be easy. But that has never stopped you before.”
“I—” But he puts his fingers to my lips before I can say more.
“It hasn’t. You’ve fought every obstacle thrown your way.” He shrugs. “Sure, you’ve taken a couple of detours, but those don’t make you a worse candidate, they make you a better candidate. You’ve got more life experience than most of the people they accept. You’ve got more life experience in the areas that matter to what you want to study. You’ve got the drive to make it work, no matter what. That makes you a great candidate.”
My face is on fire and I just nod, not sure what to reply to that.
Dylan sits down on my other side, smiling softly too. “I agree with him. That fight you have inside you, that ability to fight for the people you love, even when you’re too scared to do it, that’s going to get you very far.”
Then, as I look up, I see both Tom and Mal stand in the doorway.
Tom grins. “Seems I need to make that home office we’ve been talking about for months soon, so you’ll have a place to study. Any preferences as to the wood used for your desk? Or what type of shelves you’d like? How many of them you’d like?” He’s already ten steps ahead of where I’m at right now.
I open my mouth to say something smart back to him, a quick remark, a joke about how he’s making a bigger deal out of this than needed, but the loving look in his eyes stops me.
It doesn’t matter what I want to do next in my life, they’ll all be there to support me, always.
When I fled here, I didn’t see a future for myself. I was lost, scared, and didn’t feel like I’d ever feel at home anywhere. It was like I was living in a maelstrom without a way out, only getting sucked in deeper and deeper into the dangerous darkness.
But Dylan, Mal, Tom and Jake pulled me out. They reached inside the darkness and pulled me out, their love a beacon, something to hold onto, a safe place for me. Out here, in the light, I can see a multitude of futures for myself, each one more exciting than the previous one, and I can’t wait to try each one of them, with the guys at my side.
When I came here, I felt like I was falling apart, like this house. I stood, but was broken, full of cracks and other things that needed healing, but I had no idea how. Now, like the house, the love I’ve received these last months has helped me recover, things have gotten better and I feel stronger than ever, finally able to take on the world without being scared.
I never knew how scared I really was all the time, until Dylan, Mal, Tom and Jake showed me that I didn’t have anything to fear, that I could be fearless at their side.
I love them. I love them so much.
And they’re mine, forever.

Protect her.
Shattered (Damaged Hearts 1)
If you’re into harems but don’t mind when they go a little paranormal, try my other reverse harem series:
Prophecy (Lughnasadh Elite Academy 1)
One clueless queen-to-be, four princes to change her world forever.
Before her vital first cup of coffee in the morning, Litha finds out she’s a witch and is suddenly transported to a magical world she didn’t know existed. As if that wasn’t strange enough, it turns out that she’s prophesied to be queen and her parents only took her to the human world to protect her from those who want her dead. But now she’s at Lughnasadh Elite Academy and face to face with her four potential… kings?
It doesn’t help that all four princes are sexy and hot and make her insides squirm when she catches sight of them. There is Bane, the werewolf prince, all broody and with hair sticking up like he just got out of bed. Kit, the incubus prince, whose wicked smile melts anyone’s unmentionables. Rune, the dragon prince, protective and with muscles like he’s a moving mountain. And last, but definitely not least, Finn, the fae prince, quiet but intense, with eyes like a summer forest.
According to the prophecy, Litha will marry the true ruler of the four kingdoms. But having grown up human, in the human world, she has no idea where to start making sense of all of it, and the four princes pursuing her really don’t help with trying to figure it all out.
Prophecy (Lughnasadh Elite Academy 1)
If you want to try out some more girl-on-girl loving or just cute small-island romances, then my Emily Engberts titles may be more to your liking, starting with Second Chance at Christmas:
Second Chance at Christmas (Seasons on the Island 1)
Josie doesn’t want to spend yet another Christmas as the only single adult at the family dinner. So, instead, she books a week long holiday to her favourite island. Ready to spend it doing what she loves doing most, long walks on the beach with her dog and reading novels in front of a fire.
What she hasn’t counted on is running into her old summer fling, the one girl she could never forget.
* * *
Sanne is freshly heartbroken, and instead of having to deal with her parents’ pitying looks over Christmas dinner, she decides to still go on the winter holiday she’d booked, even if it means going on her own. She can entertain herself well enough, and maybe some fresh air will clear her head of all the darkness from the last months.
But when she sees Josie at the cafe, she can’t help how her heart beats faster or how much she wants the other woman to hold her.
* * *
What starts as a shared meal at a cafe, followed by the first snow of the season, could turn into much more.
They lost their chance of being together when they spent the summers on the island as teens, but can they take it now that they’re adults?
Can they take the chance amid knee-high snow and Christmas decorations?
Second Chance at Christmas (Seasons on the Island 1)
About Skylar Heart
Skylar Heart loves sexy romances and has a particular soft spot for broken boys and their damaged girls. When she’s not reading or writing steamy stories, she loves to nap with her two cats, preferably under a fluffy blanket, and play videogames. She has studied literature and creative writing but often finds that the couple of classes she took on coding is much more of a help in this new adventure as an author.
