Letting Go Page 3

by Vanessa Devereaux

She traced the outline of his bicep with her finger. He had big strong arms and she wondered if he’d always been in good shape or if army life had beefed him up. Whichever it was, he was like a Greek God. One that was very skilled in the lovemaking department. He moved his cock to the right a little and then to the left, hitting every inch of her pussy, until she could do little else but spread her legs wider and wrap them around his butt.

That seemed to be what he wanted because he smiled at her. She reached up and ran both hands down his chest, feeling its hair trickle her palms and the sweat on it, slid over her fingers. His aftershave hung in the air above her and she was drifting into a warm velvet pool as her climax built by the second.

She lifted her butt to meet his thrusts and that’s all it took for her to come this time around. Ava was positive she’d even spotted fireworks flying across the bedroom ceiling.

Glen panted heavily and close to her ear as his body jerked. Even though the condom she felt him gush inside her. They lay motionless, neither one of them saying anything for a few minutes, but both of them trying to get their breath back.

He finally pulled out of her and rolled by her side. Glen lifted his arm, encouraging her to snuggle close to him. She rested her head on his chest and stroked his belly. The last time she’d done this was two mornings before the accident. They’d made love and he’d been late getting on the road.

I won’t cry. I won’t cry. But she was hopeless at trying to fight it when the memories invaded her mind.

  She burst into tears.

  Chapter Four

“Was it something I did, something I said?” asked Glen. He rolled her onto her back and stroked her cheek which was covered in tears, her eyes, those beautiful green eyes, were red, puffy, and he could actually see her pain.

Ava reached up and put her hand on his face. He turned his cheek and kissed its palm.

  “It’s nothing you’ve done, really it isn’t.”

“It must be something, so do you feel like sharing it with me?”

It was asking a lot, he knew that but he hoped, and would be honored too, if she unburdened what was bothering her onto him.

“It’s just the way you held me. Jon, my husband used to do that, and the last time we were together he…”

He leaned over and kissed her before she could get to the end of the sentence. Not that he wanted to be rude or anything but he knew want would be spilling off her tongue and he wanted to stop her torment.

“You must be wondering who you’ve just made love to, some weepy woman who’s not grateful to have a wonderful guy like you in her bed.”

Glen shook his head. “I can’t imagine how tough it must have been, and how difficult it is to lose someone like that.”

  “It was all my fault.”

  “No, I don’t believe that.”

“I’ve never told anyone this, not even my parent’s or Jon’s mother, but we were trying to have a baby. It was my birthday and I told him not to bother to drive all the way back because we could celebrate it some other time. But he knew how much I wanted a child and I just happened to mention I’d be ovulating on that day and wouldn’t it be nice to conceive on my birthday. I didn’t think he’d even heard me because he was in the bathroom shaving at the time, and I suppose I was wishing out loud.”

Glen wiped a tear away from upper lip. She took a deep breath.

“I haven’t celebrated or even remembered my birthday since he’s been gone.”

“Well, you’re going to this year. I’m going to see to it. That’s if you haven’t already had a birthday.”

She shook her head. He lay on his back and pulled her up on his thighs. She leaned over and he pushed the hair away from her face so he could take in her beauty. Not just her face, but her body, the beautiful breasts and most luscious pink nipples he’d ever laid his eyes upon. He couldn’t help himself, he put his hands upon them, rolling them slightly until she groaned and lifted her chin up.

He had one condom left and he was going to put it to good use. Glen ran his hands down her belly, seeing it quiver where he’d obviously tickled her. He buried his finger in her curls and inserted a finger inside her pussy.

She hadn’t been kidding about it being like she was a virgin all over again. When they’d had sex, she’d been tight, gripping his dick like no women he’d ever been with. It had excited him, thrilled him, and made his release all the more sweet. Now she was hot, wet, and just as tight, and her body cried out for more pleasuring.

He reached over to the bedside table where he’d placed the condom, picked it up and tore it open. Ava took the cue and slid further down his legs, allowing him to sheath himself before she lifted her butt and then impaled herself down on his cock.

They danced a steady rhythm together, like perfect partners who’d been together for years. Her pushing downward; him lifting his butt off the mattress to meet with each of her movements.

Her breasts jiggled, their nipples getting tighter with each flick of her hips and thighs. He held the front of her legs, stroking them as he felt her pussy grow tighter, and her groans getting louder and wilder sounding.

Glen lifted his butt up higher, feeling like he was going to lose it but wanted to hold on until she’d taken her pleasure from him.

She came with a scream and then a whimper, and with one quick movement he grabbed her, pulled her over and onto her side on the bed. His dick slipped out of her but then he parted her cheeks and was back inside her pussy within seconds. He covered her breasts with his hands, nipped at the nape of her neck as he pounded into her, finding his own release in minutes.

He held her, wrapping his arms around her like he was scared she’d run away, or wasn’t real and maybe, he’d dreamed the whole thing up. He was still serving in the Army and had fallen asleep and imagined he’d met Ava and made love to her as his way of dealing with the emptiness he’d felt for the last year or so.

She stirred and rubbed his arms back and forth. Oh yes, she was real. He wasn’t crazy. He had stumbled lost in the desert. Ava wasn’t his mirage.

“I hate to tell you this but I only had two condoms in my wallet. I could go to the drugstore,” he said.

  “Nearest one is two miles.”

“Okay than we’ll just have to stick to first and second base for the rest of the night.”

“How about a glass of wine while I let the dogs out for their evening potty break?”

  ****

Ava pulled the sheet around her shoulders. She’d used the top one, Glen the quilt, as they sat in the couch in the living room sipping wine as Freddie and Penny sat at their feet.

“He’s a great dog,” said Glen.

“He saved my life and I saved his so we’re both very grateful to one another. You should have seen him, poor thing was abused, the previous owner had beaten him and then one day just tossed him out. My father’s friend found him by the side of the road with a broken leg. They thought he might lose it but the vet saved it in time.”

Freddie’s ears lifted up as if he knew she was talking about him.

Glen put his hand on top of Ava’s and then they both laughed when Freddie put his on top of hers, and then Penny got up and did the same.

“Guess this means we’re the four musketeers,” said Glen.

“Well this musketeer is sleepy and is going to bed if one of the musketeers would like to join her.”

“I think she means me,” he said looking at both dogs as they barked together.

Ava woke up feeling something larger, and surprisingly warmer than usual beside her.

Since Jon had been gone, she’d opened her eyes every morning to see Freddie lying there, but today it was Jon. He was already awake and she wondered how long he’d been looking at her.

  “Good morning.”

“Morning,” she said. “I hope I didn’t dream about yesterday.”

“Oh, no it was real, very real.”

She leaned over to kiss hi
m.

“I’ll warn you I didn’t bring a toothbrush with me so I probably have the worst case of morning breath.”

“I’ll take my chances. I’m guessing that it beats doggy breath any day.”

She kissed him as he ran his fingers through her hair. Until today she hadn’t needed to worry how she looked when she first woke up, hair messy, under eye skin puffy. But now a man was in her life again but one that didn’t seem to mind what she looked like. Definitely a keeper.

“So what are your plans for today?” he asked her.

“I’m going to make us some breakfast and then get ready for my doggie daycare rascals. Hey, I couldn’t recruit you to do some dog walking for me, could I?”

“How are you going to pay me?”

“Money’s tight right now but I could offer you sexual favors,” she said rolling over.

He slapped her butt and she laughed. “In that case I better take that two mile trip to the drugstore.”

  ****

Glen arrived back at Ava’s house later that day. He’d been home to get a change of clothing, pick up some more clothes and yes, dropped by the drugstore on his way back. She was tossing a salad in the kitchen and he leaned against the door jamb to watch her. There was something different about her but he couldn’t quite place what it was.

He walked in and kept the bunch of flowers he’d bought her, hidden behind his back until she turned around.

“Will it always be like this?”

“What me bringing you flowers while you cook our supper.”

  “Me being happy again.”

“If I have my say it will.”

  “Did you notice something different?”

“I did but I can’t figure out what it is,” said Glen.

She held up her left hand to him. The wedding band was gone.

“You didn’t have to do that just for me.”

“I did it for me; and for Jon too. It was what he’d want for me. He’d want me to finally let go, not of his memory, but of all the sadness that happened to me when he was taken from my life.”

Glen swallowed. Now he was the one with the tears in his eyes. He pulled her close and hugged her tight, not wanting to ever let her go. One day in the not so distance future he’d buy her another ring for that very same finger.
