  Characters

Octavia Amelia Vail: Octavia was found in Connecticut as a young child, wandering alone along a country road. She houses no memory of the time before she was discovered, nor does she remember her parents. Her native language is Latin, and the only possession she owned when she was found was a silver ring with a crest on it that links her to Nikolai Von Mort. As an adult, she moves to Philadelphia and falls in love with Victor Logan Marchette.

Victor Logan Marchette: Victor comes from a long line of kings; when they die, they are reborn as vampires. As such, he is a true-born vampire, one who awoke as an adult in his birthplace of Romania over six hundred years ago as Nikolai Von Mort. Over the years, he has had many aliases, but now he resides in Philadelphia. He is the CEO of a hospital that specializes in blood borne diseases. He works alongside his governing order, the Cabalistis to study human illnesses. He and Octavia have a strong, inexplicable connection to one another.

Brayden Sinclair: Brayden was born in Romania as Dragomir over eight hundred years ago. He resided at the Cabalistis citadel in Romania until he was ordered to care of Victor, then known as Nikolai. He had helped Victor when he had first awakened as an unruly vampire ruled by blood lust. Now, he is Victor’s lifelong companion and trusted confidante. He is composed at times, while at other times he can be quite vicious.

The Cabalistis: This vampire governing order is comprised of “The Three”—Ciprian, Fane and Stannis. They are located in an underground citadel in Romania. Their society is similar to that of humans, governed by a set of laws and tenets. They rule with an iron fist and believe in blind obedience. Their goal is to diminish the human race, leaving only enough humans for feeding and breeding to sustain the vampire race. They have used Victor to aid in their plan. They disavow him when he refuses to leave Octavia.

The top two laws of the Cabalistis are:

  1. Do not let the humans know of our existence, unless pre-approved.

  2. Do not cohort with any human. They are not to be trusted.

Stannis Dimitri: Stannis is one of the three Cablisitis rulers. He visits Victor at the hospital in Philadelphia, warning him to break things off with Octavia.

Betty: Betty is one of the young college students who found Octavia as a child. She called the police to help with the little girl.

Officer McKenzie: Officer McKenzie is the first responder to arrive after Betty had called for help subsequent to finding Octavia. He bonded with Octavia and continues to look out for her well-being. Eventually, he marries Betty.

Professor Emily Vail: Emily is a widowed professor and a linguist. She assisted when no one could communicate with the unknown young child. Eventually she adopts and names the child Octavia.

Alexander Cagen: Alexander Cagen is Victor’s lawyer, and as such, he was approved by the Cabalistis. He has low morals and a very high IQ. He limits Victor’s personal exposure to the world, cares for his finances, and protects his secret identity.

Ms Havershem: Ms. Havershem is a vampire and a friend to Victor and Brayden. As the hospital’s administrator, she is feared my most but respected by all. She warns Victor against entering a contract with Kazakhstan’s vampire clan.

Miruna: Miruna is an elder vampire residing in Romania who is over a thousand years old. She helped tame Victor, educating and rearing him from savagery to a distinguish nobleman, thus becoming his mentor.

LiLiya Stankevich: LiLiya Stankevich is Victor’s betrothed, the result of an agreement engineered by the Cabalistis.

Sergio: Sergio is Victor’s most trusted bodyguard.

Claudio: Claudio is another of Victor’s loyal protectors.

Stacey: Stacey, the hospital secretary, is a twelve-hundred year old vampire in love with Victor. She despises Octavia. She reports Octavia to those whom she thinks will eliminate her. Victor punishes her for her disloyalty.

Elijah: Elijah, protector of this world since the beginning of time, existed long before man or supernatural was birthed. He is the oldest and strongest of his kin, created at the same time as the angels. Elijah is a true disciple, a follower of all that is right. He warned Victor to control his blood lust. When Victor could not, Elijah returned for him, but the curse Catarina had placed on Victor inadvertently saved him. Faced with a choice, Elijah sought to punish the greater threat of the two — Catarina.

Catarina: Catarina was once a very powerful sorceress. She cursed Victor as revenge for killing her niece Natalia. Elijah neutralized Catarina.

Razvan: Razvan is the henchman sent by the Cabalistis to retrieve Victor and take him back to Romania.

Natalia: Natalia was the gypsy girl Victor viciously killed over four hundred years ago. Unaware of his history, he chose to use her name to address Octavia at their hotel rendezvous. She and Octavia share a striking resemblance.

Anton: Anton is the head of vampire security under the Cabalitis in Romania. A foe to Victor, he is also a contact to Victor and Brayden inside the citadel.
