All Noah wanted to do was sit under the stars in the quiet and eat his dinner with the woman he loved.

The casino across the lake was still dark, under repairs from the EMP. A few campfires dotted the horizon outside the reservation homes. Without the lights and modern conveniences that had been temporarily lost, a guy could almost imagine he’d stepped back in time.

Ela had acclimated easier than any of them. Hell, if she wanted to live in a wickiup in the desert, he was all in. At least until space began to pull at him again. For now, he was content.

He set the soft-sided cooler on the blanket, along with another blanket.

“What did you bring?” Ela asked.

“Wine, cheese, and chocolate,” he said. Yeah, they weren’t exactly roughing it.

He unpacked two plastic glasses then worked to uncork the wine. It wasn’t anything fancy. He’d mostly chosen the cabernet for the label: Velvet Moon.

Noah poured two glasses and gave one to Ela. He scooted over close to her and wrapped an arm around her.

“Here.” Noah clinked his glass against hers. “A toast.”

  “What is a toast?”

“It’s like a little thankful prayer, I guess. Honoring something or someone.”

“And what do you wish to honor?”

“To dark skies and peaceful nights.”

Ela smiled. “Yes, it is nice here. Thank you for bringing me here. It is much like I remember it.”

“Just lonelier for you. Without your family, I mean.” Noah tilted his glass and drank the wine like a shot.

Ela sniffed the dark liquid then took a sip. Her nose crinkled, and she shook her head. “Oh, this is very potent.”

Noah laughed. “It takes a bit of getting used to. Most people like it, though.”

She reached for the chocolate. “I like this much better.”

“Well, yeah.” Noah opened the bar and broke off a piece.

She opened her mouth, and Noah placed it on her tongue. Ela’s eyes closed and a smile spread across her face again. Noah took a bite as well.

“Much better,” Ela said, looking at him. Her hand stroked the side of his face, and she skimmed her thumb across his lip.

Noah leaned over and brushed his lips against hers. The past few weeks had been spent more apart than together. With Noah dealing with the aftermath of the EMP and getting Cole and Tessa home safely, Ela had stayed with the Goodweathers most of that time. He’d visited when he could. He hadn’t decided if he wanted to continue to work for Janson on the Blue Moon Hotel construction.

He took her glass from her hand and set them both off the blanket. He eased her down onto her back and kissed her long and hard. Her hands threaded through the back of his hair. Looking down at Ela in the moonlight, he couldn’t imagine leaving her again. He loved space and flying, but his heart was occupied with other distractions these days.

Ela slid her hands up under his shirt and her warmth seared through him, hardening his cock in response. He toiled at the button of her jeans, finally undoing it, and then unzipped them. Reaching inside, he cupped her mound, and she arched against his hand. Nipping along her neck, he slid a finger into her wet channel then another. Ela reached down and pushed her jeans past her hips.

  “Take them off,” she instructed.

“Happy to help.” Noah sat back on his knees and removed her moccasins then yanked her jeans off.

  “And yours,” she demanded.

“Bossy little thing, aren’t you?” He laughed and did as he was told.

Ela unsnapped her pearl buttoned Western shirt one slow button at a time to reveal her breasts. Noah crawled back up her body and locked his mouth around her breast, flicking her nipple with his tongue. Ela’s legs parted beneath him, and he settled into the vee of her hips. Grasping hold of his buttocks, she tried to pull him home.

“Whoa, there. I need to wrap that rascal up before we do that.” Noah pulled away to search his jean pocket.

“No, Jennifer took me to a healer who gave me medicine so we don’t need that anymore.”

“Birth control pills?” Noah asked, surprised.

  “Yes. It is powerful magic.”

  “Hell, yeah, it is.”

He grabbed her hips and lowered his face to her core, drawing his tongue through her folds to taste her sweet and salty heat. Ela writhed under him, mewling and thrashing as he pleasured her. He worked relentlessly until she shattered with release.

He drew one more torturous lick across her nub. “Noah!”

“Can’t help it. It’s too tempting.”

She pushed at his chest and rolled him over onto his back. Straddling him, she brushed her wet folds against his shaft before opening for him and easing onto his erection. He watched his cock disappear inside her then threw his head back, helpless to do anything but enjoy the ride. Her spread hands pushed down against his chest, and she began to work herself up and down his cock in a slow, deliberate pace, her silky, long hair brushing his face with each stroke.

His hands found her hips, and Noah held on for dear life while she rode him to satisfaction.

His eyes squeezed shut as he suffered the delicious aftershocks of completion. Ela settled beside him in the crook of his arm and pulled the extra blanket over them both.

After several long minutes, he opened his eyes. When they finally focused on the sky above him, he caught movement.

“Look.” He pointed to the western sky. “A shooting star. You should make a wish.”

Ela considered his suggestion. “I have what I wish for.”

He turned to her and kissed her again. “I love you, Ela,” he said in Apache. The one phrase he’d learned to perfection.

Her eyes grew round and shiny. “I love you, too,” she replied.

They had a long road ahead of them, and he had no idea what their future might hold, but he knew one thing. He would spend it with his Apache princess.

“Where do we go from here, Ela?” Noah asked, stroking a hand down her hair.

  “Home.”
