The Globetrotters Page 13

by Esther David

‘What about the leatherbacks peeing in the pool?’ Sameer asked.

Hudhud and Kilkila laughed, exchanging a high five.

The three boys crossed the stream and began lumbering up the incline. A kite shrilled down the overcast sky, pouncing on top of a tree. There was some scuffling, and then silence as it flew away with a squirrel in its talons. Hudhud almost expected the world around him to whirl and flash and be lost in blinding light or utter darkness, but it didn’t. He tittered in relief as the world remained what it was. Dreamy, magical and wild at heart.

  Thank you …

Daddy, for taking me to see the winter visitors as soon as they arrived at the Udaipur lakes every year. Those birds were the first great travellers I met.

And Brigitte Whiting, for being the first one to embark on Hudhud’s adventure with me.
