“No.” His arms tightened around her. “I wouldn’t have let anything happen to you.”
“Shhh!” She covered his mouth with her hand. “Tonight, when you hung up and I thought… anything could happen to you, to me… I suddenly realized what was truly important, what was worth living for. You, Patrick. You. Me and you.”
Slowly, she let her hand drop to her lap, waiting for his response, breath held.
“Do you mean it?” He swallowed, blinking fast, and she thought, just for a moment, there might be tears in his eyes.
“Yes.” She cupped his face in her hands, kissing him softly. “You are the best, bravest man I’ve ever known, and I’ve been incredibly stupid. I was afraid, so afraid of losing you. The thought of you dying somewhere out there…”
She closed her eyes, the overwhelming fear she’d felt resurfacing, filling her heart. Patrick kissed the tears falling down her cheeks.
“I can’t promise you nothing is ever going to happen to me.”
“I know.” She laughed through her tears, shaking her head. “Who can? What guarantees do we ever get? I could have died the other night out on the road, at the hands of some deranged lunatic, if you hadn’t come along. Or tonight, for that matter. Or hell, I could get hit by a bus walking across the street tomorrow. Or you could get diagnosed with some terminal illness. Or the whole world could blow up right now.”
“Well, the odds are against the last one…”
“It’s not the dying that matters, Patrick.” She pressed her forehead against his. “It’s the living. It’s the living that counts. And I want to live the hell out of this life with you.”
He grinned. “You do?”
“I do.”
Patrick leaned back, his gaze appraising her. “Well then we’re going to have to have a little talk.”
“About what?” she asked cautiously.
“If you ever, ever disobey me like that again…”
She raised her eyebrows at him, smirking. “Disobey you?”
“Love, honor and obey, Ivy. I take my oaths seriously. You should too.” He ignored the way she stuck her tongue out at him for the second time that night.
“Wait… was that a proposal?” She blinked at him.
He ignored her question too. “I told you to stay in the house. If you ever do anything like that again… I’ll… I’ll…”
She crossed her arms over her chest, eyes narrowing. “You’ll what?”
“Spank you.”
She laughed. “Promises, promises!”
“Little brat.” He kissed her fully on the mouth, his hands already roaming, hitting all the right hot spots. She moaned softly, the thought of those big hands spanking her ass filling her with so much lust she could barely see straight.
“You know, my parents aren’t home,” she murmured, straddling him in the chair, loving the sound of his moan when she rocked against the hard steel of his cock. “Remember what we used to do when they went out of town?”
“I’m not driving into town after midnight to buy a keg.”
“No, not that.” She giggled, sighing softly when he cupped her breasts in his hands, rubbing her nipples until they hardened under her t-shirt. “They’ve still got a king-sized bed.”
He chuckled. “Good, because I’ve got a king-sized erection.”
“Race you.”
They were off, and so were their clothes, including Patrick’s uniform and gun belt, by the time they reached the bedroom. There was no stopping them now, no stopping anything, she knew, whether it involved life or death, but as Patrick held her to him and filled her with everything, not the least of which was his love, Ivy had never felt so safe.

POWER PLAY: KELSEY AND THE EXECUTIVE
By Selena Kitt
Selena Kitt’s *Power Play*—where those uber-hot alpha authority figures take full advantage of their status to strike up all sorts of sexy naughtiness with their subordinates!
Kelsey never dreamed her first job out of college with her bachelor’s degree in hand would be as a secretary. Still, she’s grateful to have any job at all, with the economy at a standstill, and she consoles herself that she is, after all, an “executive” secretary to one of the most powerful men in the country. Oliver Pierce turns out to be a harsh taskmaster, and while her friends wonder how Kelsey got the job at all, with such a thin resume, Kelsey doesn’t have to wonder. It becomes quite clear very quickly that her lack of experience is exactly what Oliver Pierce was looking for, and she finds herself utterly seduced, happy to be his perfect blank slate, ready to be shaped and molded and made completely his.

EXCERPT:
“Kelsey, do you have short-term memory issues?” He leaned back in his chair, loosening his tie.
“N—no.” She could see where this was going, of course, but was helpless to stop it.
He crooked his finger, motioning her forward. “Then you do remember what I said about your wardrobe yesterday?”
She nodded, walking slowly toward him, feeling like she was in a dream. This wasn’t happening. Couldn’t be happening. Of course she remembered what he’d said. But surely one violation of the office dress-code didn’t warrant anything more than a warning. Another warning. Certainly not anything so dire as getting fired. Or worse.
A spanking?
“Did you read the dress code when I hired you?” Oliver inquired as she stepped around to his side of the desk as he indicated. He turned his chair toward her as she approached, her trembling knees almost touching his. She just nodded her response, looking down at him. “I must not have been specific enough, is that it?”
“I—I don’t…” Kelsey’s breath caught when his hand cupped her knee in her striped stockings. His fingers caught the fabric of her tights and pulled, letting them snap back into place.
“Striped stockings are not allowed,” he reminded her. “Black, navy or nude only.”
“Oh.” Of course she knew—but maybe if she played dumb? His hand was still on her knee. No, her thigh. Oh that felt nice. His hands were big, covering a lot of area.
“Do you know why?” His hand was definitely on her thigh. Nowhere near her knee anymore. She shook her head, making a little noise in her throat that she hoped might pass as an answer. “Distractions, Kelsey.”r />
Oh it was distracting indeed. Very distracting.
“There’s a natural polarity between the masculine and feminine, no matter their circumstances. Did you know that?”
She swallowed, nodding.
“Men and women—we’re like magnets, drawn together. It’s inevitable really.” His hand was on her inner thigh, slowly kneading her flesh. Kelsey could barely keep her breathing under control, trying not to show how excited she was, hoping he didn’t notice her knees quivering.
“It’s hard enough for men and women to work together, side by side every day, without distractions like these.” His hand moved lower, lightly stroking the back of her knee. “Do you understand?”
“Yes, sir.” She understood now, without a doubt, even if she hadn’t before.
He looked up and met her eyes, his expression unreadable. “Take them off.”
“Sir?” she breathed. He wasn’t serious. He couldn’t be.
“Take them off.” He leaned back in his chair, looking annoyed that he had to repeat himself, crossing his feet at the ankles, his arms over his chest.
Kelsey blinked, a part of her screaming that she should run straight to human resources and report this, but her hands moved to her hemline, trying to negotiate a way of taking her striped stockings off without having to pull her skirt up, and she couldn’t think of one.
If the thought of being spanked over his desk had been humiliating, this was far worse. Now she had to face him, watch the corner of his mouth twitch, almost a smile, as she realized she couldn’t do this without hefting her skirt up to hook her thumbs into the elastic tops of her tights.
Maybe he’s making you take them off so he can spank you?
The thought was horrifying. And exciting beyond words.
