“Hmm.” Chloe tapped her chin. She did have her own apartment in the Red Fangs territory. She had sold her parents' house and put the painful past behind her. She knew her parents would have wanted her to start a new life, start living and healing.

Chloe said that she would help Logan and she did. She took up the position of Chief Medic in the Red Fangs pack, and within a week, she had successfully retrained and reorganized the entire unit. All the other medics were wolves in the Red Fangs pack, and their brand of treatment was brash and brisk. The pack was only too happy to have a witch on their team. She could heal and soothe, and she was efficient and systematic. And Yunli was right. She did have the healing touch.

Logan had been true to his word. He had wasted no time demolishing all those drab, dreary barracks, as well as the Alpha's sprawling mansion. In their place, spanking new walk-up apartments and cozy little houses had sprung up. Logan had contacted Snow River Construction, the design and construction firm owned by the Snow River pack, and engaged their services. Chloe also heard that Mina had badgered Declan into giving the Red Fangs a substantial discount. It really was good to have the white wolves as allies.

Logan stayed in one of the modest single-story houses, and most of the Red wolves chose to live in the nice, new apartments. The pack still lived close together, so that Logan could mobilize his wolves swiftly. But now, each Red wolf, each family had their own place.

Chloe looked up to see her medics watching her intently. “Well,” she answered at last. “We're not living together because...we're not married.”

  She saw their jaws drop.

  “What?” they spluttered.

Shufen was the first to recover and she nudged her colleagues hard in the ribs. “So...why don't you guys get married?” she asked.

  “He hasn't proposed.”

A collective gasp rose and the three wolves started talking furiously among themselves. Chloe shook her head with a lopsided smile and left the clinic.

Let them have something to talk about. Her medics were incorrigible gossips. She was just joking with them anyway.

The truth was, she was so busy with her work and she was pretty happy with the way things were. Logan took care of her and he took her out and spent time with her. He came to her apartment some nights, but he always left before dawn. Everything was great. She felt fulfilled and she could feel her healing powers growing and becoming stronger. She visited Abigail and Dr. Zhou often. Abigail was becoming a capable, highly sought-after physician in her own right. The Zhous were busy, busy, busy yet they always insisted she stay for dinner. Nobody could beat Dr. Zhou's herbal soups and Abigail's rice dumplings were simply to die for.

Marriage was just...not on her mind right now. But, she had to admit, the thought of being married to Logan was nice, very nice.

Chloe went back to her apartment and fell face down on her bed. Before she could take off her boots, she was already snoring.

Chloe woke with a start. Gosh, what time was it? She had come home from the clinic and fallen fast asleep.

She rubbed her eyes, and heard a deep rumble from her belly. She groaned when she remembered that her fridge was completely empty. She hadn't had time to go grocery shopping.

Rolling off the bed, Chloe went to the bathroom and had a quick shower. Feeling refreshed, she grabbed her bag and headed for the door. She would just go out and grab a burger or something. Have a quick bite before she went back to the clinic.

Chloe locked her door and ran down the steps. She gasped and stopped short at the edge of the curb.

“What's going on?” she asked slowly, her eyes wide.

The entire Red Fangs pack was standing out in the street. The Red wolves lined the sidewalk and spilled out onto the road. And right in the middle of the road was Logan.

He was dressed in a tuxedo and was clutching a bouquet of flowers in one hand. He was pacing restlessly and mumbling something over and over to himself. He seemed to be rehearsing a line and working himself into quite a state over it. She saw beads of perspiration on his forehead and he was blowing out quick breaths through his mouth.

  “Logan?”

He whirled round at her voice and froze at the sight of her. Clenching his fist so tightly around the stem of the bouquet he almost crushed those pretty roses to a pulp, he strode grimly towards her.

To her utter shock, Logan fell to one knee in front of her and whipped out a velvet box from his pocket. He snapped the box open to reveal a blinding diamond ring.

Still on bended knee, he gazed up at her and said, “Chloe, you...are my everything. It's the truth. I...I'm not really good with words, but I love you, Chloe. I do. I just...don't really know how to say it. I love you, and I will love, cherish and protect you forever. Chloe Sullivan, will you...marry me?”

Chloe gasped. She looked up to see all the Red wolves staring at her, their eyes glowing with anticipation. Shufen, Gupta and Haikel were grinning and winking at her.

Narrowing her eyes at those gossipy, meddling tattletales, she tried to scowl at them but she just couldn't. Her mouth was stretched in a wide smile.

Logan was swallowing nervously as he gazed up at her. The big, formidable Alpha of the Red Fangs pack was on his knee, proposing to her in front of his entire pack. His eyes were anxious, hopeful, burning with love and longing as he waited for her answer.

Chloe bent down and held his face in both her hands. Gazing into his eyes, she said, “Yes.” When he blinked at her and didn't move from his frozen position, she repeated, “Yes, Logan, I will marry you. I love you!”

The Red wolves whooped and cheered, and as Logan swept her up in his arms and spun her around, the whole pack surged towards them in celebration.

Logan raised his head and led his Red wolves in a howl. Chloe closed her eyes and listened to the soaring, united voices of her wolves. It was the most beautiful sound she had ever heard. The sound of her wolves.

Yes, they were her wolves. Hers. She was the mate of the Red Fangs Alpha. She was part of the Red Fangs pack, and the pack was part of her.

She caught sight of her busybody medics, who were dancing and clapping with glee. Giving her the thumbs-up, they mouthed at her, Happy?

Laughing, Chloe winked at them and mouthed back, Happy, very happy!
