First Sight_Never Give Up, Never Give In Page 22

by Mia Jones

“He started it, honey. I’m just standing here doing what you told me to do,” Nick called after her, smiling when she laughed.

  “Real mature, butthead.”

  “Look who’s talking, dipshit.”

“Mom, Dad just cussed,” shouted Nick and Angie’s five-year-old son, Cole.

“Nick, watch your mouth,” Angie yelled across the yard.

Garrett snickered under his breath as he walked away, ignoring Nick’s insults. “How’re my girls doing?” he said, sitting next to Jessica on a padded bench under the tree.

Jessica laughed. “She’s doing really well.”

Garrett reached one arm around the back of the bench and the other cupped the back of his six-month-old daughter’s head as she nursed from her mother’s breast. “I wasn’t just talking about our daughter,” he said, bending forward to nuzzle his lips against Jessica’s neck.

Jessica chuckled and her eyes slid closed as she tilted her head to the side to give him better access. “I’m doing fine. Better since you came and sat with me.”

Garrett’s hand slid to Jessica’s thighs, moving in slow circles just under the hem of her short summer dress.

Jessica’s breath rasped out. “Ummm, Garrett,” she warned even as she moved against him for better contact.

His lips slid behind her ear before his teeth gently bit her earlobe, making a groan tear from her throat. “What, baby?” he asked with a smile.

  “Mmmm...”

Garrett laughed. “Mmm is right. You are the best-tasting thing in the world, and I need more of you.”

“You just had me this morning.”

“Has that ever stopped me from wanting more?” His hand slid a little higher as his mouth took hers in a drugging kiss as his daughter drank her fill from her mother.

“You two need to get a room,” Nick yelled. He laughed then grunted when Angie elbowed him in the stomach.

Garrett tore his mouth from her. “Jesus. When am I going to get enough of you?”

“I hope never,” she said in a breathless voice.

He stroked a thumb over her cheek. “It will take a few lifetimes I think.”

Jessica reached up and ran her fingers along his jaw where his five-o’clock shadow was starting to show. “You are the sweetest man I know.”

Garrett growled. “Don’t say that too loud, or Nick won’t ever shut up about it. You’re the only one who thinks that, you know.”

Jessica laughed. “I love you, Garrett.”

Garrett laid a sweet kiss on her lips. “I love you too, baby. Forever.”

The emotional spell was broken when Nick bellowed across the yard. “Lunchtime, people.”

Garrett helped Jessica wipe the baby’s mouth and held her until Jessica could button herself in to her maternity bra then button up her dress. He wrapped an arm around Jessica’s waist and held his daughter in his other arm. Life could not get any more perfect than it is at this moment, he thought.

“Let’s go, lovebirds. You keep that shit up, and Jessica will be pregnant again.”

  Jessica laughed and Garrett snorted.

  “MOM! Dad cussed.”

  “Nick, watch your mouth.”

Garrett wrapped his arm around Jessica’s waist and looked over at his four-year-old son, Jason, across the picnic table. He lifted his finger to her lips. “It can’t get any better than this.”

Jessica nodded as tears misted her eyes. “No, it really can’t.”
