Five minutes later, I shot the arrow. The noise of the released cable disappeared into the street noises and melted into the shadows. I landed right where I planned. What I had not planned was that she’d close the window in the meantime.
I squatted on the gable at an angle and hoped no one noticed me as I burst through the bathroom window. The casual complaint of a law abiding citizen had destroyed more than one operation. "I’m in," I whispered to Alex and started to move into Gabriella’s home with my gun drawn. With all my heart, I hoped she was still alive.
I heard a woman with a Russian accent ask Gabi, "Where are the diamonds, Gabriella? There’s no need for you to suffer." Then I spotted Gabi’s cuffed hands. I bent down and peered around the wall. A large mirror on the opposite wall revealed my presence. I cursed my stupidity a millisecond before I felt a bullet sear my shoulder. I rolled to the other wall and landed between Natalia and Gabi. The Russian shot at me three more times, but her bullets went wide. I didn’t need more than a moment. One shot. I steadied myself and shot her between the eyes, just like that pig of a husband of hers. The bullet bore a small hole between her beautiful eyes before it completely smashed out the back of her head.
"The threat’s been neutralized," I said into the headset and closed my eyes.
"Guy, Guy," I heard Gabi calling me "Don’t go to sleep, not now." Her voice quieted, but I could still sense her worry and panic. The woman who’d hired my services completely melted. I smiled. The pain I felt was nothing compared to what Hadas would do to me when she heard I was about to come to our wedding with an injury.
