“But you know he ain’t gonna make it easy for you don’t ya?”
“I know, I know,”
“Word on the street is that he’s already plannin’ something!”
“Oh yeah? Like what?” TJ was quickly concerned. “Isn’t it your job to stop this kinda thing?” he asked sarcastically.
“As I explained to Suzy… it ain’t that easy when money’s in the way…”
~
Suzy had screeched into the entrance of the national park with sheer terror coursing through her. Her first thought was that the animals would be hurt and the park would be ablaze. But as she drove she could smell the smoke but see no fire. It wasn’t until she arrived at the visitor center that she realized what was burning… it was her office.
She leapt out of the truck and saw that flames were licking at every side of the building. Firefighters were tackling the flames while a distraught John was sat fifty yards up the slope looking down with his fingers clenching tufts of hair. She ran up to him.
“What in God’s name happened?” she cried.
“I have no idea! I was out over the far side….” he trailed off as he felt tears spring to his eyes. He pointed into the distance. “I was way out there and when I came back the whole cabin was alight!”
“It’s ok kid,” Suzy hugged him tightly.
They both looked down to the office building that was crumbling under the stress of the heat. Suzy’s mind was whirring with scenarios of what could have happened. Could it have been an accident? She thought but there was a feeling inside of her that was dark and made her think otherwise.
“I think I know what happened….” she looked into the fire.
“Oh yeah? Well please care to elaborate,”
“Don’t you get it? It was Clarkson I just know it! Of all the places in a park this size the only place to catch on fire is my office! The day after I try and stop Clarkson’s men! Seriously, please tell me I’m not paranoid,”
A look of terror was plastered over John’s face as he thought about the implications of what he just heard.
“You don’t think he’d stoop this low do you?” he asked incredulously. “I mean really… it seems like too dirty a job for someone so rich,”
“Hmmmm…. Maybe you’re right. Maybe I am just paranoid. It’s been a weird kinda day,” and she looked back into the flames just in time to see the roof collapse. Her heart sank with it.
The sound of sirens approached and the rangers wondered who it could be. After all weren’t the fire brigade here already? Suzy turned in time to see Sheriff Watson speeding towards them with his Deputy close behind. They both braked quickly and jumped out their cars.
“What the hell?” Deputy Carter mumbled to the sheriff. “You knew somethin’ like this was comin’”
“You shut the hell up. I knew no such thing,” Sheriff Watson slapped Carter on the arm. “Besides…. I didn’t think he’d do something like this now did I?”
“He told you he was going to make Suzy shut up!”
“Yeah but I didn’t think this way!” the Sheriff felt panicked and he searched about frantically for a sign that the rangers were still alive.
Then he heard Suzy’s voice through the trees.
“Up here!” she shouted.
“You guys ok?” he asked genuinely as he reached the two tearful rangers.
“Yeah… As ok as we’ll ever be,” Suzy didn’t bother to try and stop the tears from falling. “It’s just hard to watch you know….”
And the four looked down the slope at the cabin that was crumbling beneath their gaze. Suzy meanwhile was paying close attention to Sheriff Watson’s face. He seemed to look guilty as he shifted nervously from one foot to another.
“Something on your mind?” she asked him.
“Always,” he replied enigmatically.
Then the silence resumed to the hill side.
Two long hours had passed until the fire fighters managed to put out the last of the fire. Black smoke surrounded the park and the smell of devastation clung to everything in the close vicinity. Suzy and John were still firmly planted to the spot as they clung to each other. They had never felt so lost as the place they had adored so much and spent every day had simply fallen down and turned to ash.
A news crew were stationed not far from them and they listened in as the reporter spoke.
“A fire has broken out in the San Angelo National Park. It has been a miracle that no lives have been taken but the damage to the visitor’s center is seen to be unrepairable. The police have so far declined to comment,”
“Hey…” Suzy whispered in John’s ear. “Why would the cops not want to comment?”
“I dunno… Isn’t that what they always say?”
“I’m not so sure….”
And they turned their gaze back to the reporter.
“Word has spread that the fire was deliberate but we’d like to confirm this. Ranger Rodriguez would you care to comment?” the tall, immaculate reporter held the microphone in Suzy’s direction.
Feeling a mixture of anger and being imposed on Suzy strode forward and grabbed the mic.
“Yeah! I think it was deliberate! I think whoever did this knows what they did and that it was a very clear warning to myself and my team,” and she handed the microphone back and walked away.
Sheriff Watson chased after her and grabbed her by the arm. It was a tight grip and the pain surprised her. She spun round.
“What the hell Sheriff?”
“You can’t go runnin’ your mouth like that?” he warned her. “You never know who’s watching,”
“What’s that supposed to mean? Are you threatening me?”
“No. I’m warning you. Now I’m telling you to get outta here and go home,”
“You can’t tell me what to do,”
“Yes I can…it’s my job. Now for your own good go home!”
She had never seen anger in his eyes like that before and she felt obliged to comply.
“Very well,” she nodded. “But get your damn hands off me,” and she wrenched herself away.
CHAPTER 7
FRIENDS?
Suzy drove frantically in the direction of her house with tears clouding her vision. Eventually she determined it was no use driving anymore, she could barely see. She pulled over into a nearby parking lot and let her anguish spill out. She sobbed hard as she rested against the steering wheel.
“Damn bastard!” she punched the dashboard and instantly regretted it.
A tapping on the window startled her and she looked up to see a friendly face partially covered by cowboy hat.
“TJ!” she was pleased to see him “What are you doing out here?”
“I’ve been trying to get your attention since you pulled outta the park but you must not have heard me tootin’ like crazy,” he smirked.
“Oh! I didn’t realize it was you,” she said embarrassed.
“So are you not gonna invite me in?” he nodded to the passenger seat.
“You wanna climb in my dirty old truck?” she laughed. “Sure,” and she reached over to open it.
TJ climbed in nimbly and immediately put an arm around Suzy. She was shocked at the instant act of affection, it had been a long time since she’d been held by a man. But she felt no need to push him away and she leant into him more.
“I must say… young ladies are always so pretty when they cry,” TJ drawled.
There’s no way he can be talking about me…. Suzy thought. I’m no spring chicken. But he saw the sceptical look in her eyes and held her under the chin, bringing her gaze up to meet his.
“You know I mean you…”
She pulled away before she blushed anymore and made a fool of herself. TJ thought it was amusing and chuckled his amiable laugh as he watched her shuffle in her seat all blustered. It was the first time he’d been in the company of a modest woman who hadn’t expected to be complimented at every opportunity. Well… the first woman since his mother.

; There was something so captivating about the pretty girl in front of him. Her dyed red hair with the thick black roots and her perfect rosy complexion was so endearing to him. And there was something so adorable about her big brown eyes, he felt that he could get lost in them forever. And that was before he moved on to look at her body.
He sensed she felt self-conscious in some way about her appearance and guessed that she’d been teased for a long while. But he thought she was perfect. He’d often wondered what it felt like to lean in and hold a full bodied woman instead of a bag of bones. He couldn’t help himself look over her ample breasts and wish he could hold her tight. However, he prided himself on being the perfect gentleman and sleazily coming on to women as they cried in their cars was not his thing. Instead he held her hand gently and looked at her with concern.
“I heard about what happened and I’m truly sorry. It must be so stressful for you,”
“I’m ok,” she lied. “I’ve been through worse,”
“I can imagine that,” he looked deep into her eyes and gauged that her strong will came at a price. “I’d like to at least cheer you up if you’ll let me,”
“Hmmmmm……” she wondered what he had in mind. “Are you asking me out?” she wasn’t sure if he was making fun of her or not.
“Well… as friends?” he was hoping for more but it was a start.
“Ok then….”
TJ showed off his pearly whites as he grinned happily. “Great! How about we head back to mine for dinner?”
“Sounds like a great idea!” she wasn’t hungry before but now she was!
~
As Suzy pulled into the ranch for the second time in a day she felt a little more comfortable at the opulence that surrounded her. TJ, as polite as ever, led her to the kitchen which she was sure was at least half the size of her home.
“Yeah… this is my favorite kitchen…”
“You have others?” she asked in shock.
“Oh yeah there’s a few dotted about this place,” he spoke casually as he began to chop lettuce.
“You know I never expected you to be a cook,”
“You thought I’d just have my own chef sitting about waiting on me to get hungry?” he laughed.
“Kinda!” she blushed. “Isn’t that what rich people do?”
“That’s what LAZY rich people do!” he smirked. “Here!” he handed Suzy a glass of wine. “Relax,” and he switched on a television and handed her the remote.
It was the biggest television she’d ever seen and she felt immediately swamped by the image as she turned it on. The first thing to come on was an old black and white film she didn’t recognize.
“One of my favorites!” TJ declared. “Lauren Bacall was a real beauty,” he came out from behind the counter and stood in front of the TV. “In fact I see a little hint of her sassiness in you,”
“Ha! You’re a real charmer you know that?”
“Well I’d be lyin’ if I said you were the first woman to say that,”
Electricity was shimmering between them and Suzy wanted more than anything for him to lean in and kiss her but she couldn’t imagine she’d be so lucky. Meanwhile TJ was thinking the exact same thing. She sipped nervously on her wine to bring her some courage and looked up to him with that look he loved so much. He couldn’t hold back anymore and he said:
“I know I’ve just met you… and I wouldn’t normally move this fast…”
She wasn’t sure if he was just throwing her a line… Saying the things he’d said to a hundred women before her. But in the moment she didn’t care.
“What are you trying to say?” she asked.
“I just like you is all,” and he leaned in and brushed his lips gently against hers.
She never felt so warm and comfortable under someone’s touch and she leaned into him as he put his arms around her. He held her tightly and for a moment he was unsure of whether he should make the next move. But as he felt how close she pressed herself to him he made his mind up quickly.
They moved fast and desperately to feel more of each other’s bodies as TJ grabbed at her clothes to pull them off. Suzy was just as eager too and she pulled angrily at his belt and yanked it out of his pants. TJ was instantly erect and she felt the length of it in her hand. It was bigger than she could have ever imagined and as she ran her hand up it she saw that it reached far above his belly button. She reached down and grazed her lips against the tip. He immediately began to groan as he held the back of her head gently and pushed her towards him. She loved the sound he made and became wet as she sucked on him harder. Sliding a hand down towards herself she moaned gently.
“Urgh….yeah…. Harder sweetheart,” TJ was desperate to thrust into her mouth so he could reach the warmth of her throat.
But he controlled himself as best as he could and pulled away.
“You’re such a tease you know that? You make me so God damn horny I could never have enough of you,” and he leant forward and cupped her breasts hard.
He nuzzled on a nipple and loved the way the hard bumpiness felt in his mouth. But more than anything he loved the full size of her beneath his hands and the way she felt so soft and sexy against him. He wanted so badly to feel her and be inside of her. Leaning in close to her ear he whispered:
“Are you ready princess? You got me all excited and I can’t hold it in much longer,” his breaths were slow and laboured.
She looked up to him with those big brown eyes that he loved so much and nodded timidly.
“Good,” he rasped. “Turn around,” he ordered.
She was too excited not to oblige and she quickly turned her back to him while lowering her underwear to the ground. Naked and bent over in front of him she had never felt so vulnerable but at the same time….so aroused. She pushed a finger into herself and moaned as she felt her own wetness.
The sight of her drove TJ crazy and he grabbed her roughly. Holding her forward on the kitchen table and pinning her hands down in front of her he pushed into her hard. She instantly screamed as he hit her g spot. He thrust as hard as he could but Suzy couldn’t get enough.
“Harder!” she screamed.
And he gripped her by her ample hips and drove himself into her over and over again as quickly as he could. Soon enough he started to feel her thighs vibrate as she approached orgasm. Her screams became more visceral and animalistic as they became louder and she pushed herself onto him as hard as she could. Eventually her screams reached a crescendo and her voluptuous thighs shook so much that TJ was certain she’d fall to her knees. The way she felt as she climaxed was almost too much to bear and he came hard, ejaculating inside of her as she groaned.
It took several moments until the two had regained their breath and once they had they looked to each other adoringly.
“I… was not expecting that,” grinned Suzy as she looked to her new lover with a rosy glow.
“Me neither…” TJ smiled and kissed her. “You’re some girl Suzy. Dare I say the best I’ve ever had,”
Suzy didn’t think she could blush so much and she held him tightly. “You’re awesome….” Was all she could get out and she instantly wished she’d thought of something far better to say.
They were both so happy as they lingered in each other’s company just looking into each other’s eyes. For a reason that TJ couldn’t explain he felt that he was falling for her. But he dismissed the thought as being impulsive. But then he looked at her gorgeous eyes and felt close to saying those three magic words... But suddenly a frantic knocking on the front door broke the couple away from each other.
“What the hell?” asked Suzy as she dressed herself in a panic.
The knocking became louder and more desperate until a voice was heard:
“TJ? Are you in there? It’s the Sheriff, something terrible has happened!”

Chapter 1
Kayden Gregory fell on the sharp gravel covering the dirt road, sending tiny pebbles of limestone rock into her skin. The force of her fall knocked the breath out of her lungs and she scrambled for air. The diesel engine of the Ford truck growled as it sped away into the darkness. A dust cloud formed behind it as the tail lights faded in the distance. The mix of dirt and blood in her mouth reminded her that she was hurt and alone.
She stood up holding her stomach. The blood on her lip was running down her chin as the swelling in her eye throbbed. In the chilly wind she could smell cattle. Steadying herself, she tried to focus her eyes to look around and see where she was, but the darkness covered everything. She noticed a light in the distance. Possibly a house. She put one foot in front of the other and started walking toward it.
Kayden felt herself become off balance as she swayed in the breeze. Her migraine was building, pounding in her brain.
