by Robert Innes

“It’s alright, Blake,” Harrison said, watching the somersaulting birds in the distance. “I know.”

Blake looked at him, surprised. “You know?”

“Yeah, I think so,” Harrison replied, giving Blake a small smile. “I mean, you don’t grip everybody you save the life of that tightly, do you?”

Blake felt his cheeks go red and he looked down at the ground. “Not normally, no,” he mumbled.

“And, I feel the same,” Harrison said, nervously. “I have done for months. But, I think I need some time to sort myself out. The way I feel now, after everything that’s happened over the past year, I need to just get my head together with it all.”

“You’ve been through a lot,” Blake conceded. “More than most people go through in a lifetime.”

“But, you know, I’ll be alright one day.” Harrison shrugged. “And then, maybe we can do that drink?”

  Blake nodded. “It’s a date.”

He put his arm around Harrison and pulled him in. Harrison rested his head on Blake’s shoulder and without another word, they watched the sun set together as it finally disappeared over the horizon.
