He laughed at her. “That sounds great. Frank would be with us though, so we wouldn’t be alone.”

“Of course Frank would be. He’s my baby. He goes everywhere with me.” He winked at her and pulled her into his arms and kissed her. “What is that for?”

“I got a publishing deal,” he said quickly and then spun her around.

“Oh my God! That’s wonderful. When did you find out? Who is it with? How many books?”

“Look at you with the questions. A three-book deal. They’ve got the first, they are getting the second one soon. I’ve got six months to get the third one written. The first will be released in a few months. They’ve got their own editors that are going through it too. It’s a long process, but Colt looked over the contract and I signed everything yesterday.”

“And you waited until now to tell me,” she said, pushing back and putting her hands on her hips. How dare he not tell her right away!

“I wanted to make sure it was all finalized. And I wanted to do it all at once.”

“Do what all at once?” she asked.

He reached into his pocket and pulled out a ring box. “Start my new career—and my life—with the woman I love and ask her to marry me. To take this journey with me. To be not just my motivation, but my partner.”

The tears were running down her cheeks now. The past three months had been the best of her life. She’d met and spent a lot of time with Jake’s parents and even Rob’s parents. Jake had been around her family a lot too. She’d been hoping for a future with him, but hadn’t wanted to believe it could happen.

That it could feel this good.

That it was all coming true.

“I want to be all those things. And most of all, I want to be your wife! But you better damn well have not waited this long to make sure you’d have success as a writer.”

“No. I was determined to make it as a writer regardless. But what I needed to do was know that I could give you what you need.”

“And you think you can?” she asked not sure where he was going with this.

“I know I can. I wrote about redemption. My PI, he needed to find himself. He needed to find a purpose to move on. I found that purpose. I found it with you and I’m never letting go.”

“I’m never letting you let go of me either!”

  The End!
